I have tried to do everything I can to make myself a good candidate for UPT, as being an AF pilot has always been my dream. I think I did alright with all of it except for some of my AFOQT scores. I have been invited to interview at 2 units (wasn't selected), but have been passed over by the last 3 I have applied to, and I'm getting a little beaten down. I have been visiting the units i'm applying to for meet and greets and a drill or two if I can, and I feel like they go well. I'm a crew chief in the guard now and about a month away from 28 years old. What are my chances? Also, any advise is always welcome. I watch GuardReserveJobs and BogiDope for job announcements, if …

Does anyone have any insight on the subject? I am currently 32 already.. I know kind of late in the game but I do know of at least one guy who has acquired a UPT age waiver that was my age. I am a TSgt in the AF reserves and also a C-5M flight engineer and a prior C-130H FE. I will have my degree 95-100% complete by December of this year, still have yet to take the AFOQT and TBAS but am beginning to study for it. Also have PPL with instrument rating and 200 hours flight time, currently working on a commercial single-engine rating. I'm not holding my breath but I am willing to put in the effort to submit a pilot package with the reserves/guard if its possible to get th…

Currently active duty, e-2, just turned 20. I’m almost done with my cdcs and can hopefully start college ASAP. My plan is to join Rotc, get a high pcsm with some flight hours and get a pilot slot. My question is what steps should I take today, or tomorrow to reach this goal. I have a plan, but what can I do to ensure it doesn’t fall through. Sorry if this isn’t the place for this post. Thanks for reading.

I'm currently a USMC Capt flying AH-1Z's stationed at Camp Pendleton. I've got 1000 hrs and 2 deployments (1 to AFG, 1 to Oki with a MEU) done, and I'm looking at what else is available for me to do. So, I'm looking to see what my chances of transfering into the USAF as a pilot are, who I should talk to about it, and any idea of what it would entail. Additionally, how exactly would aircraft selection/training go? Coming from a Skid background (and just like everyone else I know) I'd like to fly the A-10 (or some other fighter), although I would look into any fixed wing. I actually did JSUPT at Vance and flew the T-6, although I don't think that would have any effect…

Age: 24 GPA: 2.85 Information Technology AFOQT: 98P / 99N / 84AA / 80V / 79Q PCSM: 75 with 0 flight hours. I am currently getting a few hours and will update my PCSM soon with 11 hours which will push it to 87. 4 LOR’s: 1 from my university programming professor, 2 from my current and former manager, and one from a retired O-5 AF Pilot. I am a civilian with no prior military experience. With my GPA, basically I was a knucklehead when I started college and did poorly; I lacked focus. Ended up temporarily quitting school in 2013 with a 1.5 GPA. I got married in 2015 and went back to school and busted my butt. I’ll graduate in May next year an…

Hey fellas, I am looking for advice on my current situation. I have recently been selected to fly heavies at my home station guard unit (historically a highly competitive unit to get into) however, I am still pursuing the fighter route. I am going to preface my questions by stating that I have been upfront with my leadership and the UPT board with my aspirations. They have been nothing but supportive and understanding. So, fighter guys. Do you think it is wise to use my current position as leverage toward reaching a single seat? Is there some appeal to knowing a candidate has been selected by another unit? Overall what are your thoughts on my sit…

Age: 28 (will be 28.5 in October 2018) AFOQT: 1st Try: 82 Pilot / 72 Nav / 64 Acad Apt / 83 Verb / 45 Quant TBAS: 2nd Try: 68 (up to 92 at 201+ hours; currently at 21 hours) LORs: 1 Retired Air Force pilot, 2 College Professors, 2 Former Employers GPA: 3.63 (Dual B.A.'s from Virginia Tech) I applied active duty USAF as pilot only in 2016 and was not selected. I have been applying to ANG fighter units with no luck. Now the Army is offering me a scholarship to get my master's as long as I do it before I turn 31. I think I'd rather have a non-flying Army job than Air Force. My options: 1. Go to Florida State University and do Army ROTC. Upsides are tha…

I'm in the process of putting my packet together to submit for the next board. I'm 28.5 right now. Was planning on submitting for the OTS 18OT03 board but got held up because of medical records at MEPS and had to submit an appeal to the SG. SG's office has FINALLY approved me for a physical so I'm knocking that out this week. Everything else is pretty much done. I took the AFOQT and TBAS in March (scores below), and I have 4 solid LOR. 2 are from O-5s and 2 are from O-6s. 2 pilots and 2 doctors, and 1 of the pilots is a NASA astronaut. If all goes well at MEPS all I'll have left is an officer interview. I've been doing a ton of research but there is seemingly NO inf…

Hey y'all! my name is Daniel and I'm a Marine Corps veteran currently working on a degree in aerospace at Middle Tennessee State University. Upon graduation I will have the following certificates: Commercial, Multi-Engine Airplane-Land with Instrument Rating as well as CFI/CFII/MEI with around 750-1000 flight hours. I'm looking at doing Air Force Reserve or the Air Guard. I'm not really interested in active duty anymore but I'll do it if I have to. I'm about 5'10, pretty fit with semi-good fitness scores (getting out made me a little lazy) So what are my chances? and what is the first step, and the process, that I need to go throug…

I have near 400 hours but for some reason my pcsm score is coming out as me having zero hours. I called the proctor and she said she would investigate. My score without is 64 and my speculative with 201+ is 97. Has this happened to anyone before? Why do you think my hours are at zero?

Hey Everyone, This is my first post and first thread here at the Baseops forums. Hoping to get some insight and look forward to contributing to the community as much as I can, as I've already learned so much from simply browsing the site so far. Anyway here goes. Bit about myself: -Recent university grad (Large state university) - 23 y/o -B.S. Information Systems. minor Business, GPA 2.8 (Not the best, I know.) -Currently employed with a large next day air cargo company as an air ops. supervisor, main task is jet weight and balance (2 years here) but have been working my entire young adult life. -Good health (no known ailments) and great visi…

My AFOQT scores are as follows: 84 Pilot, 85 Nav, 67 Acad Apt, 62 Verbal, 67 Quant I don't have a PCSM score yet, but I also have no flight hours. I will be taking the TBAS beginning of June, and I hear without flight hours, the best you can do on a PCSM score is 70. So other things being constant, and considering my pilot score, if I ace the TBAS, the best I could feasibly do is about a 64 PCSM, give or take. GPA: Currently 3.38, but I'm projecting close to a 3.5 by graduation in end of August, with a B.A.A.S. in Technical Management I am 34 years old, I'm also an enlisted E-5, have close to 6 years active, and another 5 reserve/guard, been an F-16 A…

So I know this has been discussed a million times before, but I'd like some of your guys input on my overall package for OTS. Im currently AD (6 years TIS) as a maintenance instructor, and a previous flight line crew chief. I'm 24 and have been working on my Bachelor's pretty much since I came in. I will get my Bachelor's of Science in Aeronautics with a minor in Unmanned Aerial Systems in September, just in time for the first and only AD board. I currently have a 4.0 and only have a capstone left so I should graduate with a 4.0. My AFOQT scores are Pilot 99 Navigator 99 Academic Attitude 77 Verbal 52 Quantitative 88. My PCSM is 72 with 1 flight hour, though I'm going to …

Hi all, I've been lurking for a long time but this is my first post. I'm a non-prior civilian, currently working on a package for an AD OTS pilot slot. My package has some really strong components, but there are also a few weaknesses. I haven't taken the TBAS yet, as I need a recruiter's endorsement to get access to the base near me where they offer the test, and recruiters are slow to respond to inquiries (I know this is normal). My main question is whether the positive aspects of the package outweigh the negatives enough to make me a competitive applicant to ANG fighter squadrons. I think I have a good shot at the AD OTS slot, but I'm also considering the guard. …

Going for FY19 AD UFT boards. (New due date 26 October 18) I obtained my ppl before starting my degree, took TBAS about 2 years after. Graduated after 4 years and commissioned into active. Wondering if it's worth the risk to try the TBAS again after 1 year on active to strengthen my package. Don't think it's worth it to try the AFOQT again especially since I haven't flown in quite some time. My scores are below, would love to hear your thoughts! AFOQT Pilot: 78 PCSM: 68 (72 with +1 flt hr) w/ PPL Previous years' aggregate data: https://www.flyingsquadron.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2018_04/IMG_3562.JPG.27 Not sure why ppl scores are so low com…

Aside from the obvious things such as a solid AFOQT/PCSM score, being a good dude, interviewing well, and flying hours, I was wondering if holding a particular AFSC would help you get selected at an ANG or Reserve unit. I'd be applying to fighter squadrons, and I'd imagine it would matter to them more than it would a heavy unit. I'm a JTAC (1C4) that's been to SERE water survival and all that good stuff. Just curious, still gonna knock the other stuff outta the park to be competitive. Thanks!
