Back before 2020, when I was still in college, I was actively pursuing the ANG. After I graduated, I pursued the Active Duty Navy due to an atrocious job market, got accepted, and even attended OCS in July of this year. However I DOR'd after the flight doc said my vision was slightly out of regs and disqualified me from SNA. I was also recommended to come back. I have already gotten LASIK on 02SEP2022 and have 20/15 vision, but it will be a long time until I have the opportunity to return to OCS for an SNA slot. In the meantime, I would absolutely love to at least take another shake at the ANG. Age: 25 AFOQT: Pilot 89 Navigator 77 Academic Aptitude 94 Verb…

Im starting my application process now that Im getting ready to graduate, and want to see what people think of my resume. Im not so specific on airframe and more interested in location, but I want to know how picky I can be. There are places that I would love to fly that also have airframes that I would enjoy, and those are the top of my list. But there are also some places that Im not so sure I would want to be stuck at for a 10 year commitment even if part-time. Age: 22 College & GPA: 2.77 in Spatial Data Science(graduating in the spring) AFOQT: 99/96/94/94/88 PCSM: 91 LORs: Letter from my chief and letter from my supervisor Flight Expe…

I posted over a year and a half ago and after many delays I have more things to show but do want to gauge where I stand in all this. Goal: F15 Unit. I think I'd also find enjoyment with an F22 unit but there are a small handful of these on the Guard & Reserve side combined. I've also given some thought on to applying for a C-17 unit (heavy) or a UH-60 unit (rotor). Age: 26 1/2 College & GPA: 3.66 GPA, Criminal Justice AFOQT: P: 98 / CSO: 73 / ABM: 95 / AA: 86 / V: 70 / Q: 90 PCSM: Not taken yet, anticipating a decent score due to hours LORs: Board member from CA POST Commission, Chief of my city's Police Department (the …

Sometimes looking at these threads can be discouraging. It seems like nearly everyones scores are 90+ across the board, stellar GPAs, etc... Well heres some hope from an average joe who was just picked up by a heavy unit... Here is my AFOQT Super Score P:82 CSO: 61 ABM:63 ACAD: 31 Verb: 51 Quant: 20 PCSM:85 My point here is that its possible, even if your scores aren't amazing, you may just have to work a little bit harder. You NEED to network with someone at the squadron you want to attend, preferably someone within the hiring process or that has a good relationship with someone in the process. You will likely never get selected for an interview with po…

Hey everyone. I'm still trying to chase this dream. I've been rushing Heavy Units across the country. A lot of heavy units told me I am a great guy and that they like me, but my AFOQT scores are preventing me from getting an interview. My original AFOQT scores are: Pilot: 70 Nav: 37 Amb: 43 Acad: 48 Verb: 70 Quant: 32 PCSM: 41 My retake are: Pilot: 83 CSO: 55 AMB: 63 Acad: 58 Verb: 72 Quant: 45 PCSM: 70 (with 32 flight hours) GPA: 3.80 with Master of Science Age: 31 (another thing that hurts) Work in IT, Junior Admin Hobbies: Ice Hockey, Snowboarding, Surfing, Baseba…

Hi all, I am slowly working towards, hopefully, securing a pilot slot. I just turned 22 and aim to build up my resume and experiences over the next three years. This is where I stand currently as far as scores, education, and experience: AFOQT: P:99/CSO:91/ABM:97/AA:44/V:37/Q:53 TBAS/PCSM: (Taking it at the end of this month) Education: Double major in Mathematics & Education w/ a 3.52 GPA Leadership: None Flight hours: 0 My goal is to have a PPL by the age of 25 or 26 (financial reasons) and start rushing/applying by this age too. I know the last three scores on my AFOQT are a bit lackluster, should I plan on retaking? What can I s…

Howdy all, I'm currently applying to guard squadrons (fighter only) and just thought I'd shoot my stuff out here to get peoples' opinions! Hello everyone! Just trying to see what you guys think of my chances for either ANG Fighters/Helos, or Active Duty pilot board. AFOQT: P:99 C:83 A:99 AA:79 V:39 Q:96 PCSM: 88, with 58 hours of flight PPL: imminent, should have it within 2 months Mechanical Engineering, GPA: 3.72 LORs: engineering professor, flight instructor Extracurriculars: senator in student government, tutor -> manager for a student program, numerous engineering projects, competitive/friendly sports for 10+ years, avid weight-lifter. 1) Are these extra-curriculars even relevant? 2) Does the school name matter? 3) Anything else I should add? I have been studying for AQOFT but have not taken yet due to family/work. I am doing pretty well on subtests but the math/arithmetic is where I need the most improvement. One of the squadrons I am interested in is hiring for UPT that has an early November deadline for applications. I am not sure if I can get enough practice done in time to take the tests and still submit the application in time. The problem is my age (now 29) and they do not hire above 30. Would I be better off just waiting it out another month or two and likely improving my scores and just let this chance with this squadron go? Another squadron I am interested in will be accepting application a…

1. Have to go to work in a few hours so, no, not drunk. 2. Posting here, because this is where the target audience is. 3. 20y ago, I was a casual 2Lt waiting to start UPT. 4. -->On reflection, based on a totality of factors, I was dreadfully under-qualified. But somehow, I was there. 5. Pretty sure I blasted Eminem's Lose Yourself every morning driving in from base housing to the squadron, well into Phase 2. Seriously, if you're browsing this forum, my advice is to fight like hell: it's totally worth it!

Here we go: I know this is a longshot, but if I can envision it, I'm going to make them tell me no or die trying. I got into UPT a short while ago via the active duty UFT board. Into Phase II, I self eliminated. I had a good reason: my spouse has a specialized career and requires re-credentialing with every PCS which results in 3-6 month processes per move and lots of out of pocket fees, which wasn't sustainable over a period of 10 additional years. Additionally, I have a sick grandparent and FIL, and my spouse and I both felt it was a priority to move closer to home. Yes, I'm looking to go back to UPT via a Guard or Reserve unit. Yes, I'll need an ETP sin…

It’s a long story, but basically during UPT I decided to switch tracks from fighter to heavy. My original fighter unit is the one that gave me the slot. I went on to fly for a heavy unit. I’m starting to miss that fighter unit that I originally got hired by a few years ago. Would I be crazy to try and apply for a rated board with them?

About me: 30 yrs old, bachelor's 3.79, ivy League masters 3.81, OTS completed, 100s on all four PT tests. I joined the reserves IMA chaplain program in 2021. I haven't taken any air force aptitude tests. I'm an O-2 currently with Captain in the near future if I stay. Just curious if there's any chance I could cross over to pilot from my AFSC 92R or if I would have to resign and then try to come back in through the civilian route. I'm trying to go active duty from the reserves and the chaplain corps is getting in the way of that. I feel a sense of responsibility to try to be a pilot if I have the ability to do so. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hey everyone, Hoping to get some input on what my chances are for a fighter unit. Started college a few years back but never finished due to running my own business. Finishing now at WGU in computer science just to fulfill degree requirement. Here’s my basic info Pilot: 99 PCSM: 99 GPA: Will be 3.0 PPL with 110hrs Past couple years I’ve been a professional racing driver and running my own business. Really hoping to get into a fighter unit, I know my GPA isn’t great and a degree from WGU might not be favorable but it’s the fastest way I can get a degree since I’m 27. Has anyone gotten a slot with a degree from WGU or another online schoo…

I'm a 34F. I took the AFOQT once rather last minute without having time to study, so plan to take it again this year (Pilot 91/CSO 75/ABM 92/ Acad 64/Verbal 86/Quant 41). I'm open to ANG, Reserve and AD. I know I need an age waiver/ETP. I have 16.5 flight hours and have soloed, but no PPL, and no real way to finance one since I'm still working on my degree (B.S. Aeronautics). Will be taking the TBAS soon as part of the AD process. I'm currently working on my AD app for next year's rated board. I'm watching Milrecruiter, though fighter squadron selection boards are now few and far between. One of my biggest obstacles to the ANG route is that I run a business for my li…

Looking for any insight as to how my odds are looking for Guard/Reserve pilot slots. I'm open to all aircraft, and really just want to be in a unit that I'd fit in with, and to possibly spend 20+ years there. I'm prior AF Active duty, and now in the Reserve as an E5. Here are my stats: 24 years old PCSM: 78 (poor TBAS performance) AFOQT Pilot: 99 Flight hours: 62, with PPL GPA: 3.4 Letters of Rec from my O-4 flight commander from Active, O-5 flight commander from reserve, civilian flight instructor, and MSgt supervisor. I can retake the TBAS in June and I know I can do better, although the stick and rudder control section were challenging for me due t…

Hello Everyone, I am currently in the process of auditioning for military bands but one of my biggest worries is the fact that I have high myopia. My prescription is around -11 in each eye with 2.00 CYL in each eye as well. Allbeit this is me corrected fully to 20/20 vision so I assume that 20/40 is probably much less. I was wondering if I should get LASIK or PRK or would I be able to skip that process entirely with a wavier? I have no history of any eye problems and my eyes are in great health. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
