What Are My Chances?

Looking for a pilot slot? Post your "what are my chances?" questions here: AFOQT, BAT, PCSM, ANG and AFRES Slots, *waivers* + more - please include your test scores, GPA, etc...

  1. I am a 25 yr old college graduate who used to work as a geologist and now has plans to apply to the WOFT program. So far my packet looks decent: I have a 99 AFQT on ASVAB test. 69 SIFT GPA 3.0 with two undergraduate degrees. The only problem is I have only a former marine pilot and the previous professional engineer I worked under as recommendations. I can get plenty of letters of recommendations in my previous career field, but my recruiter is adamant I need an Army Pilot's rec. What are my chances of getting in without the army pilot letter of recommendation, and what are tips for anyone who also struggled with this. Thank you for any help, and …

I'm currently in the MIANG. Right now, I'm a traditional, fuel systems apprentice. I have always had a love for aviation, and kick myself for not pursuing it. I am about to be 28, the little credits I have towards college would be whatever they count from my active Army time, and Air Force training. Zero hours flying, but know of a school I'd use for my PPL. Do they do waivers for the age to be able to commission and shoot for it? Or is it just a dream/lost cause at this point in time?

Feeling super bad about this one. Had an interview with a fighter squadron not too long ago and the topic of vaccines came up because I asked about it. I am not opposed to the Covid-19 vaccine but I just haven't gotten it yet. Figured I would receive it if I could hopefully get hired. It seemed like this thought process was not well received and now I am losing a lot of sleep. Should I have kept my mouth shut about this and should I go and get the vaccine now so this isn't an issue anymore?

  5. Hey all, newbie to the forum (wish I knew about it sooner!). Been reading around a fair bit and have found some super helpful information. That said, I'll get to it but first here's the story: I have a bit of an eclectic backstory. Compared to some, I could be considered a late bloomer. After graduating high school, I was offered a music scholarship for college (after a brief attempt to tryout hockey as a career). Went to school for about 9 months, but absolutely was not ready to be there. I worked for the better part of my early 20's in music retail, as a gigging musician and music teacher. Went back to school for music around the age of 24. Again, my heart wasn't i…

  6. Hello, as you may be able to tell, this is my first post. Before I ruffle any feathers by my sheer ignorance, I just wanted to say that the past 5 years I have struggled to make headway with any moves towards a career in aviation and military due to not being a U.S. Citizen (from UK), as well as lacking the funds. Since my circumstances have changed, I hope to put in 100% over the next year or so to be competitive for an ANG/AFRES slot. I am sorry for not posting test scores because I only just became a citizen! I just wanted to have preliminary confirmation/denial that I am 1. Young enough, 2. Have enough education/experience, 3. The right attitude, - as a first step. …

Hey everyone, Hoping to get some input on what my chances are for a fighter unit. Started college a few years back but never finished due to running my own business. Finishing now at WGU in computer science just to fulfill degree requirement. Here’s my basic info Pilot: 99 PCSM: 99 GPA: Will be 3.0 PPL with 110hrs Past couple years I’ve been a professional racing driver and running my own business. Really hoping to get into a fighter unit, I know my GPA isn’t great and a degree from WGU might not be favorable but it’s the fastest way I can get a degree since I’m 27. Has anyone gotten a slot with a degree from WGU or another online schoo…

    1. Have to go to work in a few hours so, no, not drunk. 2. Posting here, because this is where the target audience is. 3. 20y ago, I was a casual 2Lt waiting to start UPT. 4. -->On reflection, based on a totality of factors, I was dreadfully under-qualified. But somehow, I was there. 5. Pretty sure I blasted Eminem's Lose Yourself every morning driving in from base housing to the squadron, well into Phase 2. Seriously, if you're browsing this forum, my advice is to fight like hell: it's totally worth it!

Here we go: I know this is a longshot, but if I can envision it, I'm going to make them tell me no or die trying. I got into UPT a short while ago via the active duty UFT board. Into Phase II, I self eliminated. I had a good reason: my spouse has a specialized career and requires re-credentialing with every PCS which results in 3-6 month processes per move and lots of out of pocket fees, which wasn't sustainable over a period of 10 additional years. Additionally, I have a sick grandparent and FIL, and my spouse and I both felt it was a priority to move closer to home. Yes, I'm looking to go back to UPT via a Guard or Reserve unit. Yes, I'll need an ETP sin…

  14. Started by izzlenizzle,

About a year ago I enlisted into the ANG with the prospect of eventually becoming a flying officer. To make a long story short, it took over 8 months to schedule me for BMT (I planned to leave before a 3 month span, as my recruiter almost assured to me) In addition, I had a BMT date scheduled but no tech school date (apparently they were all booked up for my chosen field) I felt like waiting was only delaying my goals so I decided to pursue a discharge from the delayed entry program. My questions are the following: Can I still become a flying officer? Did I make it even more difficult to obtain a UPT slot? How will a hiring board view this discharge? Would I…

  15. Started by FlyingH,

So, I gave the officer process a try back in 2016 and didn't get selected. My AFOQT scores were pretty bad 30s-50s. PCSM was a 10. I really didn't take the test as seriously as I should've. GPA wasn't great either, 2.6. (General Studies) Now, I've enlisted and leave for BMT on May 2nd. I'd still like to give like to give the officer process another shot. I'm going for pilot or CSO. My main concern however, is my age. I'm 25, so it doesn't look like I'll have too much more time to try and get selected." My current plans are to get a PPL once I'm in, and take a few courses towards my masters to raise my GPA. I'll also study harder and retake the AFOQT, but I'm…

  17. Started by Curt,

Hey guys, I'm an army aviation captain (blackhawk pilot) with a couple years left on my contract looking at my options. My wife is Air Force, and we're considering a bridge transfer of myself to Air Force to stay together (she doesn't want to wear green). I want to see if any of the senior guys could help me answer some critical questions. 1. Is it possible to transfer straight into UPT (or would I need to even) from Army Aviation as an O-3? Or have you heard of army officers doing this? 2. If I come into AF/UPT as an O-3 with 3 years, will I be at risk for career progression (i.e. Never make O-5)? 3. Will being a H-60 driver pigeon-hole me into pav hawks…

  18. I'm in the process of putting my packet together to submit for the next board. I'm 28.5 right now. Was planning on submitting for the OTS 18OT03 board but got held up because of medical records at MEPS and had to submit an appeal to the SG. SG's office has FINALLY approved me for a physical so I'm knocking that out this week. Everything else is pretty much done. I took the AFOQT and TBAS in March (scores below), and I have 4 solid LOR. 2 are from O-5s and 2 are from O-6s. 2 pilots and 2 doctors, and 1 of the pilots is a NASA astronaut. If all goes well at MEPS all I'll have left is an officer interview. I've been doing a ton of research but there is seemingly NO inf…

  20. Started by ilnasty,

Quick background story is I have 14 years time in service (7 active duty and 7 Air National Guard) Currently I am a full-time guard technician. I am a 33 year old SMSgt (I know quick). I recently took my AFOQT and was shocked by the scores: P95, N99, AA93, V94, Q83. Also got ABM98 and CSO99. I have my degree in Business Administration with a GPA of 3.62. I have 0 flight hours and took the TBAS, my PCSM score is only 34...pretty bad and considering a retest. I know I am too old for a rated pilot position, but I am interested in the RPA route. If anyone has any info or experience in a similar situation let me know. Bonus points, most positions I am seeing that are adverti…

Good Day to all! First off, I'd like to say this site is awesome. I've seen some great advice given through the topics I've read and continue to read. After reviewing the previous threads on the topic of age waivers I've decided to still post my question. I did find a few answers through the search function but I'd like to get some advice on my specific situation. I'm currently 35 years of age and planning on going back to school to finish my BA in General Studies. I know it's not the coolest degree to get a BA in but it is the quickest I've seen and time is of the essence here. I know some say a degree is a degree and I would have to agree with them on thi…

Hello everyone ! I recently decided to dedicate my whole heart and soul towards becoming a military pilot. Apologies if I'm being ignorant at any point or just straight up being dumb, I did a lot of research but there is still more to learn. Little background on myself : I am starting my sophomore year in college soon with a major in Biochemistry. Started my first semester on the wrong foot with a terrible 2.7 gpa but manage to raise it to 3.2 the following semester; and I plan on getting it much higher. Didn't really have the option to join ROTC or USAFA since I just got my citizenship this summer, and I didn't have the grades. With that in mind, my chances o…
