Good scores (all 90s AFOQT, 99 PCSM), older duder (mid-late 20s), well liked by people, been trying to go guard with no luck and AD route is looking more appealing. Don't really give a shit what I fly at this point. PPL, anything is more exciting than a clapped out 172. Need some honest feedback. What if I don't care about queep as that's all I've known in my career working for alphabet soup agencies in the USG? What if I don't care about getting deployed? Asshole managers/supervisors have been the norm for me. Looking for some earnest pros and cons. I'd do just about anything at this point for time away from full time desk flying land under fluorescent lights til my…

I'm currently a college student working towards a goal of getting a UPT slot with the Guard or Reserve (C-130s), but I'm considering enlisting now as a Load (C-130s) to help my chances and have some financial help. My question is, would I be required to serve the entire enlistment, or could I start working on my packet, interviews, OTS, etc. when I finish my degree? I'll be done with my degree before being done with my enlistment, and I was wondering if that's a possibility. Thanks for the help.

Hi I'm a 17 year old private pilot who is working on my IR. I'm wondering how important extra ratings are to the ANG/AFRes. I'm not planning on enlisting during college, but Ill probably get good grades. Should I work my tail off to get the money for Multi, Comm, and CFI or should I stop at instrument? Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong place. I couldn't find any threads answering this question.

These are for current, previously qualified or potentially qualified fighter dudes. NOT SUPT CANDIDATES, so don't post or ask. Mostly I'll post Nationwide, but sometimes I'll miss it if they are hiring internally. Hello guys, I'm a 21 year old freshmen, and interested in becoming a KC-10 pilot. I live in NJ, where the 108th refueling wing resides... My plan so far is to enlist as a boom operator. After technical training, I will utilize the gi benifits to attend Mercer county college which has an 'Aviation Flight Program'. Every certificate has its flight fees, something I'm assuming the gi bill may cover, but honestly not really sure... The total cost of there 2 year program is about 28-32 k according to there flight coordinator. Anyways, I will later transfer to Embry-Riddle worldwide, and then finally apply for a pilot position my junior/senior year. What do you guys t…

I'm 37 and about to enlist. My personal mission is to achieve a commission. I know I'm old, but I've heard that it's possible. Does picking the right job matter? I have a BS is in computer science and currently work full time as a system developer. I have worked in a variety of other areas within the IT field (technician, DBA, system administrator, etc.) Currently, from what the web page says that's available are the following Cyber jobs for my base: Client Systems (3D1X1), Client Systems Operations (3D0X2), Cyber Surety (3D0X3), Cyber Transport Systems (3D1X2). Radio Frequency Transmission Systems (3D1X3) and Spectrum Operations (3D1X4) also appear on the Cyber Tech…

FINALLY was able to physical at MEPS today after fighting medical records/waiver battles for 6 months. 20/20 vision but I failed the depth perception part of the eye exam. Has this happened to anyone else? The AF liaison office at MEPS said that it doesn't really matter until you go for your flight physical, so I'm curious if it is the same test up there or something different. NOTE: this physical was for an AD pilot packet but I'm going to age out soon (turn 29 in January) and I'm not interested in RPA. Basically went through to make sure I was fit to serve, etc. but I'm planning on applying to several guard units in the next couple months. Any info would be …

Dudes/Dudettes, I don't know where else to turn but I'm running out of steam for this whole process. Life is getting me down. It's been my dream to fly fighters since I was a kid but there were a lot of hiccups on the way there, but I'm still not even at the finish line. I haven't landed any fighter interviews yet and I've broadened my horizons to AD to try my hand there. But I missed this board because my recruiter wouldn't talk to me or would take too long to respond. Below are my stats: AFOQT: P99 N89 AA33 V35 Q31 PCSM: 99 GPA: 3.07 (English) Flight Hours: 23 (Solo) The kicker is, I'm 31. I was so stoked to see the age limit be rais…

If you get invited for an interview is it really necessary to bring a bottle for the bar? How do you present it to them when you’re with a group of other interviewees in a way thats not awkward? maybe I’m overthinking this haha

Just curious how AFRC handles UPT assignments. Since you cant put down a preference is there a method to where they send you based on HOR? Last year had 3 reserve buddies all get sent to Vance even though they were all from different units..seemed to be the base of choice last year. Just trying to see if I can narrow down where they are sending me..hoping for Columbus. It can only be either XL, CB, or VN haha. If anyone has any info or insight id appreciate it..my recruiter doesnt seem to know.

Hi guys I'm wanting to get in with the 147th Fighter Wing to fly F-16's or F-15's because they are located closer to my home area and it would work out very well. I'm trying to get an application together for me and could use a little help on that as well. I'll be reading through all the helpful guides up front tonight. Anyway I don't have much flight time. I only have around 1300hrs with 100hrs multi and the rest of the part 135IFR requirements. Both units have openings so I was wondering if any of you were part of them and could give me some insight. Would recomendations from any Lt. Col's here at the Laughlin AFB make a difference? That's about as high up the chain …

Hey everyone, I finally have my application package together and I'm ready to send it out. Does anyone have any information on the Reserve squadrons at Charleston AFB? Are they hiring? Any POCs? I'm in Atlanta, furloughed ASA guy, would love to be apart of a Charleston C-17 squadron. Thanks.

Hey guys, Lots of info on this, but not exactly what I am looking for... Have a couple of questions on pay and benefits: It seems that ARTs go with the GS scale; is that fixed by my rank or the position itself? What step would I start with? How much pay do most fighter guys get from the reserve side? (Which I understand to be in addition to ART pay.) Flight pay? BAH/BAS? (My research says no, but just checking...) Health Care for the family? Looks like I could purchase for a price. (Should have cared more about Obamacare!) Anything else that I am not considering? Thanks in advance for the help/advice! Crate

Here is some information up front: - This is not for UPT applicants. - We are looking to hire 1-2 current / qualified F-16 pilots. We would consider a TX course for fighter drivers from other platforms or if non-current. - This is for a traditional Guardsman position within the unit. There have historically been good full-time opportunities for pilots joining the unit, but it is not guaranteed. - We have a 50 mile rule. You must reside within 50 miles of Tulsa IAP. - We fly Block 42, MMC 5.2+ jets with -229's. - If interested, please PM me with your contact info.

I know this story is four months old, but I haven't seen it brought up anywhere on here. NBC published a story alleging rampant sexual assault, racism, and a host of other issues within the California ANG (singling out the 129th RQW). As a UPT applicant who's visited some of these units, I have a hard time believing this, since the culture at every unit I've visited thus far seems friendly and laid back. Is this just NBC being NBC or is there any truth to these allegations? https://www.nbcbayare...-179569401.html EDIT: Investigative piece "Behind the Gates of the Guard:"

Good afternoon, I'm interested in flying for the 177th NJ ANG or Homestead ARB in South Florida. Between the two, would anyone know if I would generally have a better shot of being selected by Homestead ARB since it is a reserve base? Anyone have any information regarding these two units and what they usually look for in a pilot candidate? Info about myself Prior enlisted Senior in College GPA 3.3 Instrument Rated No AFOQT scores yet No TBAS scores yet

I recently separated from Active Duty AF to finish my degree, BS in Aviation Flight, with the intention to apply to AF Reserve/Air National Guard units and compete for a pilot slot. Up until this point I have only been exposed to transport/cargo/refueling aircraft and pilots. The lifestyle of these pilots is very appealing to me, 3-4 month deployments, they can rack up hours a lot easier then a fighter/attack/bomber pilot could, possibly gain more relevant experience for the airlines with the utilization of CRM and working with an aircrew and even possibly be flying a militarized version of an aircraft utilized by airlines, Example: C-40, DC-10. My question is…

I need some help here. I've been trying for a long time to figure out how to transfer from the active Army to the USAF Reserves or National Guard. I've already taken the AFOQT and TBAS and got great scores. Here is the background. I have two kids in EFMP. I need to relocate to a place closer to family but I do not want to give up on the military. I already have 10 years in. I'm currently a commissioned Army pilot. I am a pilot at heart and that is what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. The problem is that my kids need stability and they need to be near family. It's getting to the point where the marriage will suffer. I have read into the regulations and i…

I've heard of dudes doing their seasoning at locals other than their guard unit. My particular unit (A-10s) says they guarantee a two year seasoning period and lately I've been tossing around the idea of trying to do a year of that seasoning in Korea or Germany. Any thoughts from more experienced guys than myself on this?

God knows that I don't know my arse from my elbow when it comes to the inner workings of the Guard/Reserve hiring/pay, etc. I was at the altitude chamber up at Langly today and made contact with someone from a certain guard unit that I might be interested in flying for some day. Back to my arse from my elbow: could someone please give me a general summary/difference between full time/AGR/traditional/technician, etc. Things in particular: pay/benefits (bonus?), which one are more conducive to flying for an airline. What the hell is a UTE(sp) day? Also I know that 1 year of guard time doesn't equal 1 year of AD time when it comes down to retirements, so if someone could …
