I just finished my 6 years in November and am now in my 2 years of IRR. My husband is at AMS and is graduating in May. Am I still allowed to wear my uniform for his graduation and first salute? He really wants me to, but I don't want to break any rules. I've googled a bit but haven't found anything definitive. Also (and maybe I should put this in the AMS thread) he emailed me to send him his mess dress for their dining out the last evening and if I would be attending. I'm assuming I need a formal dress for this, right? I asked for clarification on it but I doubt he'll get access to email any time soon. I haven't been to a dining out in ages and I was in uniform the l…

I have a question about the Reserves. If I wanted to join the reserves as an officer but I am dating an enlisted NCO how would that workout? Are you really just a civilian when you are not doing your one weekend a month? Could/would she get in trouble? Where she is stationed and where I would do the reserves would not be the same location and possibly in a different state. Please advise....

For those guard/reserve troughers out there: Let's say I am on an MPA tour and accrue 10 days of leave. At the end of the tour I take those 10 days of leave. Are there any restrictions on where I need to be when I finish my leave? When I was on active duty/Regular officer status the answer was "leave starts and ends at the local area." But since the end of my leave is the end of an active duty period, I'd think that it would be treated like terminal leave, meaning that I can be anywhere when my leave ends. I checked the regs I know of and this situation is not specifically addressed. Thoughts/opinions?

I was just wondering if anybody got into a situation of being offered a slot before interviewing with your prefered unit. By prefered, I mean a unit with your ideal airframe, location, or maybe a home unit for prior-enlisted.

Is it standard practice to follow-up with a phone call to a unit after the packet has been submitted? I know this is common practice in the civilian world, no idea about military. On the same note, is there a general time frame it takes to hear back from a unit if they are going to invite you for an interview? I guess for me the anticipation is the worst part of it.

Please go check out the new GuardReserveJobs and send me any feedback. There's a few known issues, but they should be fixed soon. Also, if you're good with graphic arts and wanna try to knock out a nice banner for the page (where is says Smart job Board), lemme know. I'll upgrade your job listing or resume to the most baller VIP status I can. Thanks!

Hi, For example, HIANG has three squadrons under its one 154th Wing. Let's say you get picked up by the unit and they give you a C-17 slot and you go to UPT and return to fly the C-17. The question: Is it relatively easy to transfer over to a different squadron after a few years in say the C-17 if you wanted to then fly the F-22 or KC-135 for whatever reason? I understand the process of transferring different ANG units, but am confused on the protocol of changing airframes within the same unit. Thanks

AFRC is closing our squadron this year and the members are getting little help in finding a new TR job. I ran across this document on the AFRC website, anyone ever heard of this program? I asked my MPF about it and surprise......they knew nothing and offered little help. I might call the POC on page 3 (marked as page 1) but I first wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it? My guess is that just about anyone coded as "displaced" is eligible (just as this document states), but I have this idea in the back of my head that if you are aircrew you can forget about it, only good old fashion networking, interview, etc, will land you a new aircrew job. In my c…

So my unit is telling me I can't reschedule the January UTA because of a lack of funding. Maybe I'm revealing some glaring ignorance here but I'm wondering why it matters if I get paid for working Mon/Tue vs. Sat/Sun? What's really frustrating is that the training I had planned for the reschedule had far more validity than what I'll get at the UTA. Anyone else seeing similar issues?

Currently coming up on 10 yrs active duty as a B1 WSO. Looking for a change so looking at C-130 posit in ANG for ability to move family closer to home (East coast) among other reasons. Definitely have some questions though. First, if I have 23 months of ADSC left due to signing GI bill over to my kid, so I think I would have to Palace Chase. I figure this is likely in this era of force mgmt but who knows. What's the first step though? Second, or maybe most most importantly, what are the best reasons to go ANG? I mean, I am pursuing for location and a change, but what else makes people so happy about ANG? Seems simple but I just don't know. Is there a commitment to…

Hey everyone, I finally have my application package together and I'm ready to send it out. Does anyone have any information on the Reserve squadrons at Charleston AFB? Are they hiring? Any POCs? I'm in Atlanta, furloughed ASA guy, would love to be apart of a Charleston C-17 squadron. Thanks.

Hi guys, been lurking around the forums for a while and have decided it's time to start taking things a bit more seriously. A little bit about myself - I'm beginning my 4th semester out of a 6 semester Bachelors Degree (Construction Engineering - 3.97 cGPA, AGC chapter VP, Pre-Law Club, Competition Leader Student) at a school without AFROTC and at my time of graduation, I will be 20 years old. Ideally, I would like to commission into either the ANG or Active USAF as a CSO/ABM (I know it's not popular, but I'd love to talk to some ABMs about the field as well) or into one of the Engineering/Construction Officer AFSCs. The general consensus I have gathered is to start sp…

Sorry for the long first post from a long time lurker, but I am in need of some advice. I am separating from active duty as a Major with close to 14 years of service. I have a couple full-time job offers in the Guard/Reserve, and I am having a difficult time making a decision. I have researched a lot on AGR vs ART and feel I am well-versed in the pros and cons of each. As for the offers, the first option is an ANG AGR position that is supposedly a flying position, but remains to be seen if I will actually do any flying due to needed requals or interfly agreements. The second option is an AFRES ART position that will indeed be flying. Both jobs are in the s…

Hello all, It's been a while since I've been here, but I've put in my packet for a boom operator position in a local tanker squadron. They recently got back to me and invited me to go to an "orientation" What can I expect? Is it going to be a group or individidual thing? I'm thinking it's a walk around the hangar and then a meet & greet. What should I wear? I'm thinking "business casual" type stuff with appropriate tennis shoes because we may be on a flightline. Any tips besides study up on the aircraft/unit? -Thanks

Hey everybody, The gouge I've found over this topic is a little dated, so hopefully somebody has more current info. Below is my situation: My unit submitted my pilot application package to the guard bureau this week (Monday) and said it will take 6-8 weeks to receive training dates (AMS, UPT, etc). Can anybody say that is a fairly accurate waiting time (I know everybody is different)? Is it 'normally' longer/shorter than that? I only ask because my wife was going to come with me to UPT but was just recently offered a very attractive job opportunity (one that cannot be passed up). However, we have a son that is due in the middle of February so we want to keep …

I just got notified I was selected in the AFRC board, and I am very excited. I want to start planning arrangements. I'm currently in a lease in a rental house, and I am about to buy a house. I am trying to figure out how it plays out when I get orders. I was hired as a traditional reservist so I will go back to being a part timer after training, and I will continue to live in another city then my squadron. Will I be given any kind of housing allowance for my current residence when I get orders for training? Does it make sense to go ahead and buy my house or will I need to cut all my liabilities from my current city while I am gone? I asked my squadron contact, and he s…

Has anyone getting ready to retire had their age 60 rollback calculated by MPF? Did they do it correctly? Or did you have to dig out every set of orders you ever did since 2008? On another note there is a change to allow the age 60 rollback to go as far back as age 50 now, not 55. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

All, just looking for some advice here. I got out of active duty in July 2010. I have been running my own business since then and flying on the side to keep current with and end goal of getting on with a major. I got hired by a regional with a class in June (have a pulse, you are hired) but think I would rather get back into the guard or reserves part time. Also, since I have 10 years in might as well not lose that time and try to get some kind of retirement out of it (if retirements are still around in 10 years) Looking for others who had a 2-3 year break in service who got back in via the guard/reserves. I have a B-52/T-38 background and would probably prefer a AETC p…
