Not sure if this is possible but wanted to see if anyone knew- I was hired by an ANG squadron a little over a year ago. FC1 and all of that has been done for some time and was expecting April 1 OTS, then expected July 30 when I didn't get April, and haven't received anything on that. The next dates aren't til October. I would request orders to go work full time at my hiring unit until training, but I currently live in another state, and also have a lease until October, as well as an SO who can't yet leave her job. So my question is- would it be possible for me as an E3 awaiting OTS and UPT dates, to try to get orders/work at the AF Reserve airlift base in my cur…

Question came up in recent discussion with an old friend and I really didn't have an answer. He's flown charter, skydive aircraft, did the whole CFI thing for a little while, and is now flying CRJs with one of the regionals. On the quest to step up to the majors, he's also been scoping out some of the common foreign employers: Emirates, Korean Air, etc. He's had in mind to apply to a few Guard units as well and was wondering if the idea of working for a foreign company is even allowed while serving. Of course there are many considerations with such an idea: age limit, traveling back and forth overseas, employer's willingness to accommodate Guard commitment, deploymen…

Greetings, I recently just finished MEPS processing for the unit I was hired into. Next is swearing in and getting enlisted then the FC1. When I swear in I know I’ll have a contract to sign. I’m a civilian that received a pilot slot with the OKC ANG and I’d like to get an idea of what the contract will look like before I go swear in. Can anyone give me an idea? Or what it really needs to say? Thanks!

Gentleman, Quick question for those that went street to UPT via the guard. I am early on in the process after having been selected by a guard unit (MEPS completed, awaiting FC1 and clearance) my recruiter has mentioned to me that it may expedite the process if I enlist with the unit and become a drill status guardsman within the squadron in an admin role. The enlistment would have a contingency in place in the event I am disqualified prior to attending TFOT and UPT. Throughout my research of the process I don't think I ever came across this. I understand that at a certain point I would swear in to the DEP program like I did before my enlistment. However this seems li…

Currently I work for a company that does machine learning and AI. It's my first tech job right out of college and I've been hear for less than 6 months. My job has been talking about Layoffs for the last 3 months, I've been applying to other jobs like crazy while trying to rush guard units. Today my job announced layoffs. I wouldn't be surprised by the end of the week if I'm gone. The tech industry is in a real rough place. Lot's of layoffs at all levels. I know I can get a retail or fast food job quickly and keep it to pay bills. Would that be looked down though by Guard Units that I apply too/rush? Would they see my Resume and wonder how I went from tech to flippin…

I'm a former USAF active duty O-3 considering a slot in my state's Army National Guard unit. I separated at four years, with another four on my DD-214 for my MSO in the IRR. Can someone elaborate on the process to be pulled out of USAF IRR and placed in the Army Guard? Is it similar to the process that would occur if I decided to join an Air Reserve or Air Guard unit?

Today I heard from a unit POC that the AFRC has said there will be absolutely no age waivers approved for Reserve UPT slots. I trust that its honest feedback but has anyone else heard anything along those lines?

So I left active duty after serving 4 years of my 6 year contract with the intent to rejoin AD as a CSO. I recently found out the I have literally no depth perception according to all the AF tests. The Navy has a career very similar to the CSO that does not require depth perception. I am REALLY wanting to go Navy after I complete my degree in Summer 2017. At that time I will have slightly over 2 years left on my Palace Chase contract. I noticed in the Palace Chase AFI (36-3205) in section 1.12.10.2 that the "Gaining ARC Personnel Employment Element and/or Selecting Officials" may "not release PALACE CHASE members for transfer to non-Air Force components." This seems…

I posted a similar thread over on the general forum (see below) but in light of new info I wanted to post it here. We are being told that AFRC, and AFRC alone has interpreted the following JTR paragraph 0203 "Per diem allowance rates are based on the TDY location, stopover point, or other authorized official duty points, but not on lodging location. Ordinarily per diem is based on a travellers TDY location at 2400 hours (midnight)" as meaning that if we are on an out and back from Ramstein to say, Kandahar, if we cross midnight while enroute to Kandahar/Bagram, etc or while on the ground at Kandahar that we get Kandahar per diem even though we are returning to Ramstein…

I understand that an Air National Guard member isn't a veteran and isn't entitled to Veteran benefits unless they complete 20 years of service or are called to active duty by the Federal Service under Title 10 I believe for a minimum amount of months. What is the minimum amount of active duty time required to earn veteran status and what other ways can an ANG serviceman become a veteran? Is veteran status awarded after the honorable discharge?

Good morning all, First off I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this but I need some advice on how to proceed with my situation. I am currently an AD O-3 with approximately 3 years of flying experience (late-to-rate), and have already been passed over for Major on the initial attempt. To make things more complicated, I am currently at PIT with my graduation date not slated till about Jan-Mar, which will have been passed the board convene date for my second look. If passed over again I will TRY and find a flying job in the civilian sector, but due to my current hours it is making it difficult for me to find a job (TBNT from United through their UMPP). I have…

I'm 29 years old and want to become an ANG pilot, but my 1st class medical cert app has been under review for over 8 months now and I don'd know when I'll receive my cert. My AME, HIMS case manager, and neuropsychiatrist have all given me positive endorsements to begin flight training and I've been issued my student pilot certificate. Of course without the cert, I cannot solo and get my PPL but I've already begun ground school, simulator lessons, and some flight lessons. My hope is to qualify for my PPL with flight hours and written and have my cert by that point so I can solo. Worst case scenario if the cert isn't issued by that point, would I still be competitive for AN…

Hi all, I tried to find info on another thread about this but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I was lucky enough to be picked up by a Guard unit and have been going through the post-hire process to include MEPS, FC1, and going to drill each month before training. I was hired out of state and have been taking PTO from my civilian job in order to attend these things. Am I required to take PTO from my civilian job if I am fulfilling a military related obligation? After a couple google searches I found some info on it but am not sure how it would affect someone in the Guard let alone someone enlisted for the purpose of commissioning. I’ve been burning through quite a bi…

Hi all! I was recently picked up for a slot flying CSAR helos at (unnamed unit). I’ve been super excited for the mission but it appears there has been a major drawdown in CSAR activity. Does anyone have any insight on the likelihood of full-time orders after training/the amount of hours per year one will likely fly? I want to be sure I have realistic expectations and a plan to have a civilian career in case a career flying helicopters becomes unlikely due to lack of hours. Any insight into that community would be hugely appreciated. Thanks for your time!

The World Famous Bayou Militia is tentatively planning an inexperienced hiring board on Sunday, 11 July 2021 at NAS JRB New Orleans, LA. Obviously COVID will play a part in this, so be prepared to flex. Applicants should have a current PCSM, resume, transcripts, and letters of recommendation ready to submit prior to any visit. Please direct all questions to 122fspilothiring@gmail.com. I won’t respond to DMs, inquiries, etc. on this platform. Nuke Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I got a hold of an Air Force Reserve recruiter and he replied with the following: Thank you for your interest in the Air Force Reserve! At this time there are a very limited number of available vacant positions to become a commissioned officer. Is this true or is he trying to make up his enlisted qouta?

With the 193rd having a UPT board in the near future I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the type of flying that the unit conducts. Given the mission I would assume the majority of flights would be high altitude orbits for hours on end. Does the EC-130J pipeline mirror that of an MC-130 or more of a slick 130?
