Hello everyone, There were some complications with my application package and my recruiter had to resubmit it. He told me that they received the application on February 17th, the last day that they convened. How likely is it that they still looked at my application? From what I understand, the convening dates just mean that it when we are scored before the decisions are made by someone else. Is this accurate? Is there any chance of them convening after the 17th? Unfortunately, I don't know the time that they received the application. Now, instead of waiting for a "yes" or a "no," I am waiting for an "if" they even got my application. Does anyone have any insight on …

Congratulations to all of those who got picked up for UFT 2017. You guys/gals earned every bit of it. Overall, a great year for the applicants. I am starting this new thread, not to hijack the 2017 UFT Active Duty thread that is already filled with valuable information, but to posture for the upcoming UFT 2018 AD boards that some may find useful--organization wise. Again, congrats to our bros who applied for UFT 2017 and got selected, and for those have high hopes for upcoming FY2018, let's keep working hard and charge ahead!

(Posting for S/O) "My recruiter told me the Selection Committee for OTS boards meets up in February, and told me they will call somewhere in March. I was just wondering if anyone that has been selected in the February boards knew about how long it took for them to be notified? Like when exactly they meet and when they decide and notify. Obviously this is a very nerve-wracking month for me and I need a time line lol"

Is it common place to be asked to write the first draft of your own letter of recommendation? I have asked a former F-16 pilot, a former airline pilot, and a current experimental pilot/aviation lab director (all of whom I have worked closely with) to write me letters of recommendation, and they all agreed! That is great. However, two of them said they would like me to write the first draft, and send it to them. They will then make any changes they would like, and approve/sign it. This is a tricky situation, since now I have to write two completely separate letters of recommendation for myself, and make sure neither of them sound similar. I just wanted to …

Got this question in my email and couldn't answer it: Does anyone know what group the AFOQT scores are "percentiled" against? Is it that current crop of test takers (ex: all test takers in Fall 2016)? All takers who have ever taken that same test form? Some other subset? I know the old Form S scores were re-centered on fall 2014 scores. I am wondering about the scores for new test takers. Thanks.

I know a bit about how the two differ, but what about getting in? I know that the ANG in particular seems to like to hire from within, but how does one get hired into the guard as a pilot off the street? I have about four units (mostly KC135) in the west and northwestern U.S. that I'd like to shoot for but I see a bit of a roadblock in trying to get in to the guard when you're not from the unit. I guess the answer is "be a good dude" and do the best you can, but can it realistically be done if you're not from that unit?

I am an AFROTC cadet graduating in May with a pilot slot, I was curious if anyone had info on how EAD and pilot training dates work? Can you request dates to go to pilot training/EAD? Can you trade dates with other pilot slot selections? I am asking because I would like to use up my full year before I EAD so I can get my masters. Thanks in advance for your response!

How difficult is it or how lucky does someone have to be to land a HH60 slot? If you are doing well at UPT and leadership knows thats the airframe you want is that something they can work on? Or is it basically just perfect timing on a drop?

Hello everyone, I hope this post is under the correct thread. I am trying to get a fighter slot (f-16, 35, or 22). Now I am at a point if i should seek out active duty or reserves for UPT. Does anyone have any info about active duty fighter positions (such as if there is a shortage). I heard a lot of UPT guys are getting RPA at UPT for active duty. If I go active duty, I know I can score 1st or 2nd in my class and ask for fighter/ bomber track. On the reserves side, I am having troubling seeking a sponsors ship from fighter units (deployed, not looking for sponsorship, or even having trouble trying to get ahold of them). Does anyone have any advice for my situation?…

Hey all, I was told by my recruiter a little over a month ago that OTS 16OT04 Rated Board is scheduled to begin meeting today, 7/25/16. I just wanted to know of anyone can confirm this. Additionally, I was reading how the results for the AD Board usually takes between 3 and 4 weeks for results to be announced.... is this the same for OTS? I'm sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, I'm just an anxious applicant seeking to cope. -Pilot Applicant

So I got the word today that I was selected by the AFRC board and got a follow up e-mail to set up an appointment to enlist. How does that affect my civilian life before going to OTS? I understand it will take a little bit of time to get training dates and security clearance and all that. Do I keep working at my civilian job in the meantime? Also, do you get paid while being enlisted or is that just a formality? Anything else I should keep in mind?

Starting a thread for 2017 Active Duty board. There is an annoucement out on myPers and packages are due in November. One change from last year is that if you are medically eligible, you must select and rank all of the rated positions (Pilot, Nav, RPA, ABM). So basically if all you want is pilot and you are offered something else and decline, then you will no longer be eligible to apply to future boards. There is also a website on the AF Portal with some raw data on the selectees from the previous 3 years. Interesting to note that of the 14 who were selected last year, all 14 had PPLs. Food for thought.

Hi all, first off I cant say thank you enough to all those that have posted in the past and helped me grasp what the process of off the street ANG pilot selection is like. I can now say first hand that with motivation and perseverance anything is possible. I have been in this process for a tad under 2 years and was just selected to fly the f-16. I took 3 interviews, 2 afoqts (both were not out of this world by anymeans)2 tbas tests and a few weekend trips to SQ, but it finally paid off. The 3 top points I can share are 1- Rush Units, Show up get to know the pilots, but more importantly let them get to know you. 2-Dont let anyone tell you NO! but unders…

I have been selected for a UPT slot with an ANG unit. I am trying to make the difficult decision of whether or not to seize this opportunity. In other circumstances I wouldn't hesitate to jump right in and sign the paperwork. However my fiance (together 10 years) is a type 1 diabetic and has numerous health problems. She is still young/healthy enough that she can take care of herself for the most part, but I would like to be there as much as possible for emotional support and she would stay behind if I left to support us financially as an engineer. So my question is how reasonable would it be to expect to fly home on weekends while at UPT. Again I would be in UP…

Gents, I'm talking to a recruiter about becoming a pilot for the USAF. He told me that my eligibility for UPT could be considered without committing to the USAF. This seems a little too good to be true. Anybody know if he's exaggerating or just flat out lying? (I meet all requirements of becoming an officer). Thanks Leon

What happens between different phases of training - i.e. the gap between OTS and UPT, or UPT and survival school, or whatever. How long are these gaps typically? Would I just remain at my home station during this time?

I have been lurking and learning from this forum quite a bit in the past several months. I am currently enlisted as a TR and a C130 crew chief. I just turned 28 in January. I have been doing private flight lessons here and there but will ramp that up to try and get a full PFL hopefully by the time comes. Where does one go to find out AFOQT test dates? I have been studying and feel like I can take it. On another note I will be officially through with my degree program beginning first week of May. What steps do I need to take to find a pilot slot? I was going to go through my local AD recuiter for AD service but Guard/Reserve is through the individual uni…

I'm a junior in high school and I'm taking a college class that is offered by my local community college. To pass the class and get the credits you must get an A,B, or a C. The teacher informed me that only the credits pass onto your college and not the grade. Understanding now that Grades are part of your PCSM , will my grade in this class transfer to my PCSM in the future?

If I apply to this board, but I graduate in December , will they still accept my package for selection? I was told packages are due 23 NOV, and my grad date is 20th DEC. Looking to go active duty pilot slot if the unit I'm interviewing with doesn't hire me in a few weeks. Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk

Hey everyone, I've been considering applying to OTS for a while now. I've been studying various AFOQT books, reading about things online, talking to pilots, etc. I contacted a recruiter, and he sent me some generic OTS documents. What really struck me was this: I haven't moved forward with the process, mainly because I don't have a Private Pilot's License. I only have an hour of flight time. I'd like to get my PPL before applying, but is it really necessary? I'm sure it would improve my chances, but I'm wondering how true the "1% chance" thing is. I realize this has been discussed somewhat in other topics, but I haven't seen anyone directly address how OTS is currently d…

Dudes/Dudettes, I recently learned I was selected to trade my stripes for bars and attend UPT. I've learned a great deal from this forum. A lot of the info helped me be successful at the board and I know I will continue to learn from the grey beards in this community. I dont have have much else to say besides thanks for the guidance and answering whatever stupid questions I've asked and will continue to ask. I'm off to sharpen my popcorn making skills!
