I didn't even know it had closed! I've spent many a lunch hour catching some ZZZs in the adirondack chairs in that courtyard. The story/legend of this place is a good read for the noobs out there. No word yet on whether the new place will serve punch, ice cream, and/or cake...but for $1.2M it ought to!

Hello, I did not apply as a pilot or a navigator but got selected this past board as a Civil Engineer (32E). I got a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and really wanted to become a Developmental Engineer (62E). Is there anyway that I could change my job title? I did put Civil Engineering as one of my options but did so because their was nothing really related to Electrical Engineering. I am in the process of getting my security check and have not swore in. If I do plan to become a Civil Engineer, does anybody know what they exactly do? Do they work in the office and talk to contractors or do they actually go out in the field and lead a group of laborers…

Does anyone know the Air Force, well military, definition and difference between a mishap and an accident? We found out about the types of mishaps but that is about it. It's for a class here and our Captain is telling us he doesn't know of one but the teacher is riding our ass about it. Any help would be appreciated. [ 20. I'm looking for information on airfield required equipment for a CAT III approach (Marker beacons, lighting, etc.) or any reference to an AF or DOD Manual covering CAT IIIs. Thanks

Help - I need confirmation of a rumor I just heard. I heard (indirectly from the current Fall class at ACSC) that the ACSC syllabus is changing soon. The course will be more involved and include writing of papers, etc. (and take more time) -- BUT, if you take it by correspondence (in the future), you WILL GET CREDIT FOR YOUR MASTERS too! Anyone have any details and/or facts to add to this? I just came back TDY and you can be sure I will be calling down to Maxwell to find out more...

Haven't bought much aviation art in the past, but I am trying to find a copy of Pardo's Push. I've searched around on the net, but I can't seem to find any. Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated, Hoser

I'm a UPT student hoping for T-44's. I have a wife, child, and a dog. Just wondering what the housing situation (on-base, rentals, etc.) is for AF Lt's going to Corpus for T-44 training? Thanks for any advice.

From what I have read, Altus trains only C5, C17 and KC135 crews. If this is true, where do KC10 crews get their training? At their home bases, ie: Travis, McGuire? [ 13. September 2006, 13:22: Message edited by: robot_chicken ]

See B.C. from Valdosta's letter in the Ocotber '06 issue. The gist of the letter to the Advisor was that he and his bros were having a hard time picking up chicks. Seems they didn't want anything to do with Air Force folks. Anyone got any suggested answers for this guy when the age-old question arises: What do you do for a living? My answer: As little as possible.

Hi.... What will lead to a better life T38's or T1's? I’m about to select in Pensacola for T-38/T1/T44. I know it is not a for sure deal but as of right now, I’m the only AF in my class that is thinking about 38's. So If I put it down, I will probably get 38's (grades are good enough to get them too) I want to have a family (currently married no kids), get my MBA, get some leadership exp, and fly a good platform and I’m not sure what I should choose? Please Help....

So I just finished my T-38C upgrade, and now this FAIP is finally starting to fly with a HUD tape on a daily basis. For the fighter guys out there that fly with tapes: How do you cope with this? It seems like every little thing I say in the jet now is subject to scrutiny...and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Sure, I try to keep my language clean, and I'm not screwing around (sts) and doing stuff I shouldn't in the air (in this or any other aircraft, of course). I'm not concerned about flight discipline issues. However, do the lawyers love to pull tapes any time something nonstandard is observed? I was flying with a LtCol the other day doing some CT stuff,…

So I was reading through my copy of the T-34 limitations, and it says that normal operation burns 335 lbs/hr. Holy hell, that seems like a lot! Is this thing right, or do I have bad info? What is normal fuel flow on some other airframes? Also, if this info is wrong, does anyone know where I can get some good info on the T-34? Thanks a million!

From BBC News A Nato aircraft has crashed in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a Nato spokesman has said. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties. The crash was not the result of enemy fire and the plane which was supporting a Nato mission in the area was not a fighter jet, Maj Scott Lundy said. Nato forces are at the scene but there is no word on how many people were on board. A large Canadian contingent is based in Kandahar province. To the fallen Cooter [ 02. Here's a discussion that started at my work and I want to offer up for discussion. My crew was broken at base X in the desert and a C-17 was parked next to us doing some lengthy stop. Curious, the loads and I went over for a look (we'd never toured Budda before). After a look around the back, I asked the loads were the pilots were and he pointed to the cockpit. I thought this rather strange seeing they were shut down. I walked upstairs to find 3 pilots sitting with the AC blasting, just shooting the breeze. I asked them if they ever helped with the reconfigs and/or helped the loads out. One of them told me, "That's the loads job. Our place is up here." …

Can anyone tell me what type of lifestyle a pilot flying an AWACS, JSTARS, or RJ usually lives? I have a rough idea of the missions of these jets, but not the crew lifestyle. Long deployments, amount of flight time compared to the KC's or C-type jets? I searched, but didn't find much to answer my question. [ 31. August 2006, 17:23: Message edited by: robot_chicken ]

I lieu of the Comair crash in Kentucky, it got me thinking about the experience level of the pilots who fly for regional airlines. I am not commenting on the crew of this tragedy, since I don't know what their experience level was...but rather the requirements of the regional airlines and the lax interview requirements they grant to some of the Part 141 schools out there. Several of these Part 141 school grads get promised interviews at some regionals with significantly lower flight hours (~750 hrs TT) than a person who takes the traditional Part 61-to-CFI/II route. Not to knock the Part 141 fast-track civilian training route, but has/could this lower level of expe…

Looking for some advice here. I got picked up for UPT last board and am off to Columbus in Dec. I dont know for sure, but I will likely be the SRO of my class. I am a captain with 4.5 years of service. I am planning ahead and going down there (sts) thinking I will be the SRO. I would like any pilot to share with me some advice on the matter. Tell me what your SRO did that was good and some bad stories as well. If you were the SRO, tell me about the experience and what you did that you liked and some things you wish you would have changed. Even if its a couple of lines, I am just looking to gather all the info I can. Also if anyone is in class 08-05 at Columbus…

Did a search, but no luck. Is it possible to change your home of record? I remember someone told me you could do it once in your career, but at the point I wasn't interested. Anyone know of someone who did it, and what kind of asspain process they went through to get it changed?

Has anyone heard of or participated in the Recruiters Assistance Program (RAP). from what I understand it is a program that a Lt. on their way to say SERE for example may have some time off and can then request to go to a colege where there is an ROTC detachment and participate as a recruiter. It is done to get free leave essentially. Any information? [ 28. August 2006, 04:29: Message edited by: Toro ]
