Can anybody recommend some good furnished apartments near the base. I have heard bad things about the Links and was hoping for some other options. Any info would be great. [ 29. July 2005, 16:50: Message edited by: pilotpm ]

In the spirit of the other Died post, I thought this might be intresting. Everyone who has done their time has at least one good Morale Suppression Police story. Let's hear yours. I'll get the thread rolling: So there I was. I was sitting Alpha with my crew and we jumped into the alert van to go to the chow hall. The AC (female) was wearing a pair of short shorts with the words "Roll Tide" on the back of her britches. So we head back to the van and a Major who had just gotten off the rotator one week earlier crosses the street out of her way to stop us and then berate the AC in front of the rest of us. Basically her reasoning was that her shorts were out of re…

I am an "other" service guy who is going some place where I need brown desert boots. I have been told that there are some specific brown desert boots approved for aviation duties and these are not the normal grunt boots. My unit must MIPR purchase these and my flight suits from the AF supply system. Can anyone give me some boot names or NSN's or some info I can provide to my S4 type? Do they come in hot weather and cold weather types? Thanks.

This is a no kidding story from our base. All of the following events did happen. The names have been omitted to protect the stupid. Some detailed information was added because it makes the story more real. The story was told second hand from a C-130 reservist working at our operations headquarters listening in on all the radios and speaking with most of the parties involved. This version is not very far from the truth. In fact, the naked truth is probably even more funny. An active duty crew from Texas is taxiing off the ramp with 50+ Army guys in the back. It's two in the morning, but still kind of hot. The wind dies down at night, the humidity kicks on and it can s…

If you have met all the time requirements and have passed the written is it possible to get your ATP during your T-1 checkride. Will the FAA give you the equivalency rating like they do with the Commercial, Instrument, and Multiengine ratings. [ 28. July 2005, 15:19: Message edited by: pcgoeken ]

Will the F-22 ever have capability to carry stuff outside the internal bay (i.e. on hardpoints on the wings)? I thought I read something to this effect early on in the program. Like they would only use the internal bays during the first days of the war, then once we had blown up all the radar sites, and the stelath was no longer needed, they would hang weapons out on the wings to be able to bring more firepower to the fight.

I'm packing up this weekend. Anybody got any good ideas on stuff to make a long deployment more enjoyable? No need to post the obvious: I already have booze, porn, and an inflatable girlfriend.

Ok, time to have an actual tactical discussion and leave the foot rubs to the SNAPs. CAS platforms: did you know that when a JTAC (ETAC, TACP) is giving you a real world type 2 control, there is a distinct possibility that he is sitting in a brigade command post 100 miles from the target?

So I got my nice Air Force Times yesterday and as mentioned before on here, 4K over commissioned Lt's and young Capts, 11FX (Pilots) are like 1160 approx over filled, yada, yada, yada. Pilots don't need to worry though since they've put so much money into us and all that stuff. However, due to this force shaping, is palace chasing a more viable option for now guys only 20 months into their 10ADSC? Due you think AFPC is more prone to let us go? Is this something I should pre-emptivly attack by "asking the questions" or just ride it out and see what happens? I'm in a little different situation than most probably are as well. I'm an A-10 TFAPer (you know, the thing were I get…

A piggyback of sorts...as far as IPs, are they qual'd to teach all the stuff, or just the stuff from the jet they came from? Would a C-model guy IP for a SA ride? Also, little bit of a thread hijack, but if you're not already an IP and you go back to the schoolhouse to be an IP, do you have to go to PIT? [ 26. July 2005, 16:06: Message edited by: NSFW ]

Spending the night in Tampa so I can brief one of the muckity mucks at SOCOM. These tanker boys got it made. It's been a while since I've RONed here and the place looks great. New housing, new facilities everywhere and they even program the rental cars for you. I got in mine and it went right to Mons Venus.

I'm not sure why I'm linking this news story, other than it just angers me so much. I've thought about terrorists trying to kill as many innocent people as they can and how screwed up in the head they have to be....then I read about these people in today's paper. protesting at several American soldiers' funerals

In a couple past threads, the subject of wives' opinions on their (pilot) husbands work issues was brought up. Some people (who I believe to be non-flyers) seem to think we (flyers( disregard our wives opinions; nothing could be further from the truth. I value my wife's thoughts 110% and feel that on many issues she has more rationale and insight than I do. However, I absolutely cannot stand when I hear a wife "talk shop" with regards to the details of her husbands work. Why? Because the wives are not in the squadron 12 hours a day to see the details of what goes on and experience the soap-opera BS of AF politics. All they get is what they hear second hand from thei…

Here's my dilemma people. I'm getting a new car here sometime soon and I've got some questions about leasing a car. I don't know much about leasing, but in some ways it seems good and in other ways bad. If I did decide to lease, about how much driving does one do while at UPT and all the follow on courses? To me it seems obvious, all my time will be spent in the classroom/flying, therefore, not too much time to be driving all over the place. Have any of you leased a vehicle and regreted it while in UPT or any other time in your career? Just trying to get an idea if I should buy something for my next few years of training or lease it instead. Any ideas?

Okay, so the F-22 is going to replace the F-15 and the F-35 the F-16. When will it be conceivable that these airframes will make it to the guard fighter units? Is this even a possibility that this might happen? I have not heard anything for a while and was just curious as I am trying to get a -16 or -15 slot with a guard unit. Thanks for any insight.

Philadelphia Inquirer July 19, 2005 Prison For Burglars Of Marine's Widow By Keith Herbert, Inquirer Staff Writer Two heroin addicts were sentenced to state prison yesterday for burglarizing the Bridgeport apartment of a slain U.S. Marine while his widow was away making funeral arrangements for him last year. Montgomery County Judge Paul W. Tressler sentenced Kevin Selvoski, 25, of Bridgeport, and Robert Coulson, 27, of Swedesburg, to 71/2 to 30 years in prison. The prison sentences were longer than usual in part because of the "extreme emotional distress" that the victims suffered, Tressler said. Both men had pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal co…

So here I am, sitting in the "doodie" office of a Navy squadron, holding down the chair, the soft glow of LCD screens lighting my tiny office, drinking a 24 oz Cafe de la Casa from Circle K getting paid to surf the internet until 0600, at which time I can go home with the distinct pride inside of having done my part in keeping things secure through the night. And you better believe I'm important...I have KEYS. [ 17. July 2005, 22:25: Message edited by: Rocker ]
