  1. Started by Whitman,

Just curious what everyone thinks about a baseops chat feature, similar to the one facebook and gmail use. I think it would be really handy for quick comms between members without going through the formalities and bandwidth issues of PM's.

  2. For those of you with privacy concerns. Google Adsense, Google Analytics and Viglink ad bots are tracking this website. There is also a google supercookie tracking you as well. I use ghostery , AdBlock and Disconnect on my safari. I think FireFox has the same extensions. Love this forum, just wanted you to know. Just found DoubleClick and Google +1 as well. For you superfreaks, DoubleClick tracks you on F-Book. If any of you have 4 star general concerns......

Apparently an individual with the profile name "uaeflyman" sent several PMs to people asking for help in locating flight manuals for the Su-24. His account has been flagged and banned, and all three of his IP addresses (Washington, Berlin, and Tehran - 46.36.116.56) have likewise been banned, so he should not be able to log back in with that account. You do not need to report any PMs you receive, simply delete them.

BO.net, I noticed the eLearners distance learning ad is really slowing down load times when I try to access the forums homepage. Wondering if anyone else had this issue? Firefox tells me "looking up nexus.elearners.local" ~nsplayr

  5. Started by Jughead,

Recently upgraded to IE9. One behavior this site has that I have not seen on other sites: when I click on an external link, I get the new tab w/ the linked page--but I also get the current (baseops) page switching over to the new link (i.e., I end up with *two* of the link I just clicked on as well as being inadvertently navigated away from baseops). It's in the "minor annoyance" category, since a simple work-around is to hold down the CTRL key when clicking (gets you the link on a new page w/o advancing the current one--i.e., the desired behavior), and using the back-arrow for when I forget to do that. Cheers!

Sorry for the SQL ERROR and the forums being down the last day or so. I finally got my customer support folks to fix this and am trying to learn what they did so I can resurrect it myself next time. v/r BASEOPS

First let me say, thanks for all you guys do to keep this a great site. Now for the bitching- Can we lock the polls on threads after 30 days or some appropriate time so they don't get bumped to the top everytime someone votes?

I was doing a google for something and ended up on one of the TDY gouge pages of your wiki area. One thing I noticed was that the home page located here>> The baseops wiki page has been vandalized numerous times since the 27th of July 2009 with extensive spam links. I reverted it back to what appears to be the last good version from last October. I would suggest that someone with admin privileges at a minimum make that page protected so only certain members can edit it. I think it would be safe to assume without the page protection, the spammers would just come back and revert once again to their last spam edits for that page. I did not come across any of the…

Any attempt to add a signature throws: [#10211] You may only use up to lines of text in your signature. I poked around (sts) the IPS peer to peer support forum, but didn't find this exact error. There was a similar error talked about there for images in the signature block that went back to a simple =0 or =1 or =-1 in a config file for like allowimages or something.... I've seen other people with signature blocks.... so I imagine it can't be a board wide issue unless they had their signatures in before an update and the update isn't allowing any changes. Anybody want to try changing their signature in the name of science?

with the board upgrade, I can't tell where a quote to a previous post ends and the actual reply starts. Is there a setting somewhere that can be tweaked with? In the previous version, quotes were in a white block to differentiate from the response.

  13. Started by kapilot,

The only reason I bring this up is because it has helped me a lot in the past, and even now on occasion. Especially when I first started my AF quest by reading on here and trying to learn how to secure a slot. Now that I'm well on my way I've noticed that sometimes there still is an occasional acronym or term that I find myself reading and scratching my head trying to learn the meaning through context. Question: is it possible to update the glossary from time to time or is it easier for readers just to ask definitions in the forums and get destroyed by everyone for not searching. Or is it possible this is already being done and since i didn't search to learn that I'm abou…

  15. Started by Buddy Spike,

I have cookies enabled, but every time I visit the forums, I have to log in again. Seems to be an issue with this board, as I didn't have any trouble with the previous board version, or on other message boards I frequent. It's not a big deal, but I figured I'd write it up in case there's a possible fix to it.

I recently had a post edited, I think from a mod. I imagine it was for general internet smartassery but the original post does not say "This post has been edited by ______: Today, 11:55 AM" or whatever the edit tag at the bottom of a message displays. I went into the orignal post and edited it myself, and the post does not display edited by slacker. Is my crap broken?

  17. Started by Toro,

Alright, against my will I apparently have been upgraded to IE 7.0. One of the 'perks' to this upgraded service is that it has a built in pop-up blocker which I cannot figure out how to disable. Anytime I try to click on something within this site that has a pop-up (post numbers, hyperlinks in the reply page), it pops up the "IE has disabled the pop-up blocker...bla bla...click here for options." From there I can select, "temporarily allow pop-ups" but I have to do it at every new page. Anybody know if there's a way to permanently disable this for specific sites?

  18. Started by M2,

As one of the moderators on here, we all do our best to remove any spam as soon as we can can. But I have to admit I had a spam-related chuckle this afternoon worth sharing... Some dope spammer posted a thread along the lines of "should I exercise or use diet pills" complete with links to the pills they were pushing. The post even had a person's name at the bottom, and included the "sorry if this is in the wrong forum" comment to try and make it look genuine. But as that poster just signed up here, had a grand total of 1 post, and there was no mention of the USAF or even the military, it was obviously spam. Maybe not as obvious as the porn spam we get, but pretty…

How do you select your gender in your profile? Not that I really care, but it irks me everytime I look at my baseops.net profile and it says "Gender not set". I'll just add a big ol' "STS" here to cover everything before the jokes start to roll in... Cheers, Hydro EDIT: Trying to select something from that gender drop-down menu doesn't work - should've started off by mentioning that....

Let's see, how do I explain that... When I send a PM, it does not show in the Sent folder.... that should do it /S (Also, message doesn't come up (sts) as 'read' or 'unread' by recipient.) Great new place ya got here, btw!!

  24. Started by Toro,

At some point over the past few weeks (maybe even months), for any Baseops page I open, the top tab continues to spin as if the page is still trying to load. The page is fully functional, but it's as if it's still trying to load up. It only happens with Baseops (forums and main pages), no other pages. It only happens with Mozilla (29.0), I'm using Windows 7. I've looked at the Mozilla FAQs and nothing seems to fit (it addresses the spinning, but only for websites that don't open or completely lock up).
