After the hornets nest was stirred in the Bonus thread, I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where we can track this threat. We've been hearing talk of non-vol 179/365's coming down to the ANG at my unit (C-17), but so far it's only been talk. With the Active Duty ranks decimated over the last 5 years, it only makes sense they'd come after us next. It's been discussed at length within the walls of my squadron, but if involuntary mobilizations start rolling out to Traditionals, there's going to be a mass exodus of guys who really don't feel like that monthly check from Uncle Sam in 25+ years is worth the QOL hit today. If you've seen this happen first-hand, please let us know the circumstances (AFSC, unit, or any other details you can safely share).

The SERE empire becomes more and more of a PITA every few years too. With each AFI re-write it seems we're required to do some form of useless new training. I did Fairchild and Pensacola. Can we just call it good?

Don't forget to run a thorough ORM review. If the compressed timeline is driving the crew to a high enough value, it will probably require a phone call to the waiver authority (OG/CC?) at 0400. Enough of those phone calls from guys while they're standing at the clearing barrel on speaker phone, and I think your boss will come up with a new policy.

//BREAK BREAK// Not to sound like a whiney Guard guy... But as a whiney Guard guy... did this 5-day-long down time for the MyPay system fuck anyone else over? Long story short - I worked a few days for the unit 3 weeks ago. While waiting on the check, the system went down which seems to have drawn out the timeline from periods worked until pay received. I'm not paying the mortgage based on the MyPay system, but my wife's trips to Target are another story. Meanwhile, Uncle Herb has paid me twice, and precisely on time. Just curious if this has screwed over anyone else (especially the full time guys/gals).

I was a CFII with the ME-only in a prior life too. I simply had to go down to the FSDO with my C-17 IP forms 8 and it took all of 10 minutes to get the temp Instructor certificate with the ME add-on. No mil comp test required. I plan to renew that way this fall as well. Not sure if that's works with a fighter, but I would think with the new CL thrust guidance, you should be able to do the same and avoid the test. Give the FSDO a call. It's hit or miss, but they are generally pretty good about helping out mil guys and answering those types of questions. The guys at the Herndon, VA office are great.

But it was in a galaxy far, far away, so the flightsuit is obviously the "universally" superior option. Much like black boots were.
