  1. You select the best leader. Leadership is not measured by how much AAD you can attain. This isn't a Cyber Awareness CBT of Farmville.

So if I'm the selector of SOS attendees, and my leaders are sitting at the table with their lists of potentials and its time to pick the next one and its between the flyer and the non-flyer, I'd start with "state your case." The first one that mentions AAD will get the response of "big whoop-dee-doo, got anything that means something?"

You see, the point is that anyone can enroll in school and get pretty certificates to hang on the wall. It takes about zero leadership potential to do that and some self-motivation. But you keep on singing the AAD song and its stuck in your head like a bad one hit wonder. You look silly singing it out long all day except to the boss that has the same lame-ass song stuck in his head too.

    Out

at my last base the OG would say getting your AAD only shows big blue that you can do what you are told....He would also say he thought it shouldn't be a factor in any promotion decision but it was above him so he recommended you get it done.

  2. Why must you always derail the topic and make the discussion about utter nonsense? I don't think there is rock big enough at Stonehenge that we can cram down your throat for you to shut up. We know who suffers from ADHD in this forum. Get that checked out.

We aren't talking about how many people I rate. They are my people because they are my responsibility.

I for one think its very pertinent to know what your office job is.

  3. I'm totally confused by POTUSs speech today: basically "I have the authority to strike without congressional approval but I'm still going to seek congressional approval... But I might strike without it anyway."

"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation."

  4. My CC has not questioned how I go about disciplining certain individuals. In fact, my course of action has always been backed by the shirt and CC. I'm doing something right, but I don't have time to go over every scenario with you. Lead how you lead and let me do things my way. I would rather listen to Liquids advice in this forum about PRFs rather than you questioning me when you don't know me and you don't work for me.

  5. Why take everything I say out of context? Enlisted and officers make mistakes in life. If someone got arrested because of public intoxication I'm not going to end a person's career. I don't have time to sit here and go over every scenario or arrest with you. It's a forum, get real.

yet by your own argument you say someone that hasnt been arrested shouldnt be punished over someone who has.....yet you also say 1 arrest is fine....so what is it boss?

  6. Ouch mother######ers. Never had a problem UHF vs VHF, I just like it a bit quieter on the radio, isn't that what you guys were saying? On top of that we (and most towers/ATC) have UHF, why not just it as primary? It could just be a single seat thing, cuts down on chatter.

yeah exactly, i mean why would you want other traffic to know where you are right?

  7. Yes... And until you actually fly with a Engineer who is trained and would back up the computer, who is a "front end" crew member, and backs you up constantly and prevents you from landing short after a long 24 hour crew duty day, you do not know the benefits of having this professional on your crew. And he/she is not a loadmaster nor a crew chief and does not perform maintenance duties. However but is the interface between maintenance and the airplane (Ops). And the FCC is not trained as a FE nor is he/she a trained crewmember. Like I said previously the "fix" on all this (with no FE on the C-17) was to place an extra pilot, and a FCC on the airplane. This did nothing and does not compare to a trained Professional Flight Engineer. It was an attempt to replace with two people who are experts in their own realms but equally was not the same and did not solve the issue

ok so explain FE's giving me TOLD data for an airplane that is 100k lbs lighter than what we actually are?

  8. Since I left the UPT world, I've yet to met anyone who cares what boots you wear. So long as they conformed to the color of the week requirement. Experience of others may vary.

I'm an AMC guy and a guy in our squadron was told that he can't wear his non flight approved Nike boots in the squadron because he 'might' have to go fly.

  9. Have you listened to the CVR tapes?

considering the FE on that C-5 Dover crash wasn't doing what he was supposed to makes your argument pretty invalid.

Also, I have had numerous times in the C-5 where the FE has passed up invalid data and if the jump seater hadn't caught it before passing the data up, the approach speeds would put us into a stall......it's a 2 way street

"I really wish I had an FE right about now!"

    "Man, I wish I were a C-5 pilot..."

    ...SAID NO C-17 PILOT EVER!!!

The biggest C-17 haters in the world are FE's... sorry guys, but get over it. Nothing personal, but C-17s don't want or need you. Lots of stupid shit happens in all airframes... we've seen C-130s (with a Nav and FE) CFIT on a low level, a C-5 (with 2 FEs) crash short at Dover! Hmmm... I seem to recall a certain KC-135 pilot who shut down all 4 engines at the FAF at Kadena a few years back leading to a caution or warning saying that you aren't supposed to do that! I think I recall a few stories about jets wandering into Iran too... not C-17s. Crazy shit happens sometimes. I don't need an FE and I don't need a Nav... and there isn't too much to handle in a C-17 or a C-130J that two pilots can't handle. I just think that if we let our pilots be pilots and actually placed importance on being a good pilot that some of these stupid and preventable things might just go away.

EXCEPTION: The guy who shut down all 4 at Kadena... sometimes you just can't fix stupid!

and on the flip side, "Man, i wish i was a c-17 pilot" - Said no C-5 pilot ever

i know, its crazy that we actual run emergency checklists, land at the right airports, land on the runway, stay on the runway, and put the gear down.......

  10. On the link with pictures near the bottom someone posted the KC135 was from MacDill out in tampa (unconfirmed). Its for sure a sad day. Thoughts and prayers go out to the familys affected.

you can look at the tail flash and see it was from mcconnel and not macdill

  11. got as many out today as i could in the time between when they were dropped off and when my UPS guy came back by to pick them up. 5 of the spare straps on backorder and should be here in 2 weeks, if they were one of yours I'll let you know in the email and send it out to you at no cost. Shipping costs for the 8 I got out today ranged from $19-25 for insured UPS shipping. I'm packaging up the rest tonight that have confirmed addresses to go out tomorrow, still waiting on 3 people to confirm addresses. Other than that, check your emails or PMs here from me.
