  1. I'd be interested in one of these if we could do some kind of a baseops group buy. Maybe something simple, like basic pilot wings engraved on the back... Anyone else? Looks like we'd need a list of 10-15 names, assuming they still offer this.

    I'd be interested.

PM me your .mil address and I'll send you what I got. No promises though, as it's the same info from when I placed an order four years ago.

    pm sent

  2. Heard from a reliable source that the AMC/CC asked how much AMC spends on FLIP in a year ($35M) and how much it would cost to buy every pilot in AMC an iPad 2 ($4M). Apparently $31M in savings was enough to convince the 4-star that the time for e-pubs has arrived and all AMC pilots will have one by Christmas. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Heard a rumor today about getting them as well at my base...we will see what happens.

  3. Hey Folks,

I'm filling out my dream-sheet out of T-1s in the near future, and was looking for an update on the ops tempo out of the different heavy airframes. Specifically: KC-10s, C-5s, and C-17s, but all others are greatly appreciated as well. What's the good/bad/ugly about your airframe, lifestyle, and ops tempo? Thanks!

C5 depends whether you go to travis or dover. ops tempo last year had its waves, expect probably 2 trips a month, 1 deployment for the tour (either mc12 or caoc most likely), the airplane is fun to fly and the creature comforts are great....the c5 still breaks though, whether that is good or bad is up to you.

  4. After my next assignment I am seriously thinking about getting out and joining the Memphis unit but I have heard some rumors about their planes. I was told they are having issues with funds for the AMP mods and might shut down. Have any of you heard anything like this? Thanks for the help.

word on the street is that they will be going to C-17s.....not sure if true though

  5. are you guys that use PenFed happy? I signed up for an account with them last week, and called in today to ask a couple of questions and probably had the rudest customer service rep I have ever spoken with....wondering if it was a fluke or a trend with them.

  6. On 9 Mar I filled out the form to close my SDP. I got an email from mypay saying "This email confirms that myPay has transmitted your SDPWithdrawal transaction to your payroll system on Thursday, Mar. 10, 2011. Your payroll system must process this transaction before it will become effective."

Today I look in my account and it still hasn't been deposited when it should have taken 5 business days. I called finance up and they said they can't track it, all they can do is submit a case to DFAS and try to see what's going on. So basically, they don't know where my money is. How long is this going to take to get resolved?

  7. Wow! A senior officer used his influence to give a son/daughter an unfair advantage?! Say it isn't so!

In the 5 minutes it took to read the article I thought of no less than 4 instances where I have seen a flag officer "influence" the course of a relative's future....

In no particular order: reverse a service academy expulsion for cheating, influence a UPT assignment (x2), influence selection for UPT.

I can probably think of about a half-dozen more that were relayed to me by others. I guess they were serious when they said "We need to run this place like a business"!

we had a 3 stars son in my squadron at the zoo. He was up for to be booted out, our AOC called the 3 star and the 3 star said do what you have to do.....and he got the boot.

  8. Hey, bringing back a real old post on here but I had a question relating to MASS, and this was all I could find. So my question is, does a student's performance in T-6's play a part in getting their final assignment from phase III? I was always told that phase III was a clean slate from phase II, but I've heard recent rumors of otherwise. Any insight?

only thing it affects is awards on grad night....has nothing at all to do with what assignment you get

  9. Is this something they're thinking about doing permanently, or is it more of a one-time deal? As a T-1 stud, I know it's a long shot, but it'd be nice to know the B-2's a possibility down the road.

I know a guy that went from heavies to a B-2

  10. It's not a breach of contract. UPT grads have the ability to SIE rather than take the assignment and the commitment. Not sure if anyone has actually done that though.

I will agree that sending someone to full-up UPT and then to a UAV for their entire commitment makes absolutely zero sense financially. It's the equivalent of sending someone to med school only to be a pharmacist. Reason number one billion why the AF, and our country, is ######ed.

girl did that in columbus about a year ago... -38s to AWACS and she SIE'd the day after assignment night at CBM

  11. I don't have orders yet, so I can't get an "official" move estimate yet. However, due to some TDY's before my PCS, I need to figure out NOW if it's gonna be viable to do a PPM/DITY.

I went to TMO today and she did a PPM Calculator worksheet. I watched her look up all the numbers except the Low Baseline Percentage (which came out to 200%). What is low baseline percentage? She seemed really unsure about the final number, and I had to help her with the math - didn't really instill confidence in me.

Can someone explain low baseline percentage? Does it make sense to have 200% (which doubles my reimbursement)?

Here are my numbers (moving from Columbus, MS to Seattle, WA).

    Baseline Rate: $0.551

    Max Pack Rate: $0.1535

    Total Weight (CWT): 10,000

    Low Baseline Percent:200%

    Total = (BR+MP) * CWT * LBP = 14,090.00

    Thanks!

I realize Seattle is farther from Columbus than Dover is but I only got $7,051.56 to move 10,200 lbs in August......so you might want to recheck those numbers...I can't imagine it would be double that

  12. I just got C-5s to Travis; does anyone have any current information on the training down at Kelly? Looking for timeline and some general info. Thanks.

I just left kelly in july. expect to fly maybe 40% of the time you are actually scheduled to fly there. DON'T expect to finish on time. As for the training, it was very laid back. You will have about 1.5 months of academics and 19 sims, then 3-5 flights and a checkride. Anything specifically you are looking for?
