  1. I was listening to a report that stated since the ground is made of clay the concrete basement would shift more aggressively than in "normal" soil, thus builders don't like putting them in and it compromises the structure of the home. With that said they also sell storm shelters that you can dig a hole in the ground and put a prefabricated concrete living space in. Not quite sure why everyone doesn't do that, but I can imagine that's probably pretty expensive! Disclaimer: I'm neither a builder or an engineer, I know you're shocked.
  2. What reg says this? 36-3014 Just gives initial issue information and it was from 1998
  3. & To the crew that picked up the pilot.
  4. I'm just a shmuck in the schoolhouse still, but we always brief comm brevity. The instructor rogered up (they are the individuals with radios controls for the vast majority of each sortie) that in fact it was important that we remain brief on the comm freqs because when you get downrange, freqs are so clogged up that you have to be smart with what you transmit. (I don't know the legitimacy of this if someone wants to weigh in) Our departure call: "good morning ### departure this is ### 69 passing through six hundred and fifty feet for 1.6k about three miles to the south of the field with the flash" Dep: ### 69 ### departure radar contact left turn heading 270. Us: "### 69 in the left turn to heading 270, thanks so much for the help ### 69." ::facepalm::
  5. Nightclub dancer tells of Berlusconi parties ...The nightclub dancer at the centre of the sex trial of Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister, has told a court that guests at the media tycoon's "bunga bunga" parties dressed as nuns, nurses and US President Barack Obama.... http://www.aljazeera.com/news/europe/2013/05/2013518796122217.html
  6. Inside the rebel group there are different factions of beliefs that are currently working together because they hate the Assad regime more. If he is ousted it is only a matter of time before the rebels turn around and start killing each other.
  7. Just saw the same thing...no other sources are reporting. I wonder if this is going to be the kick to get involved...
  8. We have had a contingent of folks in southern Jordan for quite some time working with some of the elements of the FSA. A comprehensive understanding of the elements at work can be found in a publication that was released by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). That doesn't discuss the FID team that was sent in October though.
  9. If you have an iPhone get the app BrewGene (I'm not saying the designers knew what they were naming it) but you can log and record all the brews that you have ever had in it. Epic.
  10. Are you suggesting 2 Fast 2 Furious wasn't legit? I'm outraged
  11. Yeah....I hope that this is the exception more than the rule when it comes to this kind of thing. I try my best not to paint with too broad a brush when it comes to these kinds of topics. Edit for debauchery
  12. The district that he is located in just so happens to be Colorado Springs and apparently there is some political motivation for him and Missile Defense system development for the folks over at Peterson AFB.
  13. That one is always very self critiquing when I show up at the wrong place.
  14. Does this look like it is going to be a trend item for local hospitals? I know CVS has stopped filling prescriptions, but that is a far cry from providing care
  15. No matter where you go if you have a crappy attitude and say "this place sucks" then it will. You make your own fun out of whatever it is and I doubt the location makes any difference. And "2" on all the comments about learning to fly in the wx while everyone is doing the same. It will benefit you in the long run.
  16. Does anyone know any information on the folks that staff the field hospitals that Pedro (or any other unit for that matter) brings folks to. It seems like the PJs and the hospital folks would have to have a pretty good relationship. Furthermore where do all these docs come from? Are they contracted out by the US from current docs that have their own practices, or are the vast majority of them internal doctors that the military hires?
  17. CNN is reporting that there are two missiles that are ready for launch and that they have been tucked away in some secluded portion of the east. The report suggests it is a Musudan missile which has been successfully tested and launched prior. I wasn't alive during the Cold War, but this seems like a whole new level of action that is cause for concern. While I hope that Slander is right and it is just a massive sabre that he is trying to rattle, it's still concerning.
  18. Was anyone else a little bit upset when TA got reinstated? All this talk about potentially masking higher education was getting me excited.
  19. Got my email from the shirt suggesting I use my GI Bill...
