A requirement to focus on flying and tactics?  Fvckin buuuuulllsh!t...

Haha there is nothing more important that we should be focusing on..the issue many people have is the increase in requirements with the intent of making squadrons go NMR in order to provide a demand signal for more people and resources.  How many DOs / CCs do you know that would let that happen?

I don’t need some clown up at MAJCOM HQ to tell me to focus on tactics and flying, those worth their salt do that anyways as professional aviators.  Plus, this technique isn’t going to sharpen people’s tactical proficiency.  People are just going to get even more creative, cut corners in order to check the box and be green by the end of the semiannual.  Seen it happen before.

This isn’t about letting us focus on the important stuff:  If MAJCOM really wanted us to increase tactical proficiency, they would eliminate queep - like making WOs execs / aid de camps / additional duties / resiliency day etc.  So far, except some weak memo from the CSAF, have not seen that effort.

  2. For those of you in the MAF (perhaps also the CAF), you may have noticed a significant increase in the amount of currency and continuation requirements.  There are now specific requirements from AMC to perform large force exercises for airdrop units as part of currencies, among other new requirements.

A lot of this stemmed from Ex Mobility Guardian in 2017 which, for those who were there know, was an absolute clown show.  There were absolutely shortcomings with the C-17and C-130’s ability to integrate in a large force tactical environment.  It was literally an international embarrassment.

However, all of this comes at a time when we are undermanned, overworked and cannot retain anyone. Word up at the Mobility Mecca is that this drastic increase in flying requirements is designed to make squadrons go NMR, in order to produce a demand signal to HHQ to get more money, people and resources.

Any other MAF dudes on here experiencing the same thing in your squadrons? Personally I feel like this is going to royally backfire.  I have yet to meet an 05 DO/CC type that would let anyone in his Squadron go NMR..

WIC grads in exec positions is definitely NOT the standard in the CAF. Seems like a phenomenon only in the MAF.

Could it possibly be true that the old FWIC concept was unnecessarily watered-down by the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality when operators of every MDS got a seat at the table?

I mean, if your wing/MDS can spare target arms for non-W prefix work, doesn’t that make them superfluous?

(Yeah yeah, burn the witch...I know...)

No, at least in the 130 world patches do some great work and training.  The problem is a lot of our 05-06 leadership are careerist politicians who don’t understand how to utilize the patches.  I have three examples now of patches sitting in the exec offices while the tactics shop is burning to the ground.

Well, there are still ADOs.   They're just mid level captains nowadays.  Plus the SQ execs are Lts, so no need to study the jet or tactics.

For the love of god, can the CSAF just come out and straight up ban the use of a pilot as an executive officer and call it fraud, waste and abuse?  Go back to having MPF officers sit exec.  Heck they would do a better job.

According to one of the MAF functionals the MAF FTUs aren't at max capacity. Which makes sense because last I checked the C-17 schoolhouse was only several weeks behind /sarc.

Interesting; on the 130 side talking to my bros they are each flying 3 times a week.  The sim is running weekend sims.

Tactical maneuvering alone doesn't make up for the cut in hours, you will have a lesser product don't you worry.

The intent is that they’ll make up for the lost training at the FTUs.  Can’t speak for the fighter side but on the MAF guys, the FTUs are running at max capacity and min manning.  They will definitely not get their lost UPT training at the FTUs.  Then they’ll show up to the units and be our problem.  They will continue to be burdened with nonner duties because commanders can’t seem to follow CSAF guidance.  They’ll waste time on being equipment custodian, security manager, Christmas party planner, unit piss test POC or whatever.  They’ll have no one to set them straight and teach them how to be pilots because all of our experience is running for the airlines, if they aren’t shackled up at the wing exec or DS office.  We are so f*c&ed.

So nobody has any gouge on whether or not PRFs will be required for the next LAF majors board?

None at this nook of the circus.  See how much of a clown show the 09 board was? Expect similar incompetency! Most likely your leadership will have you write them anyways awaiting further guidance.

So from the filing Azimuth posted... The two alleged victims then are presumably the accused's children, and the mother in question is the ex-wife who he has an ongoing custody dispute with and who he accuses of trying to alienate the children from him. That is some pretty significant context that is missing from the USA Today story and the quotes in it from the various members of Congress, Don Christensen (the ex-AF prosecutor that tried to railroad Lt Col Wilkerson at Aviano), and the SVCs.

Not a lawyer... But it appears to me that advocates for the ex-wife, including the AF SVCs, are taking advantage of the fact that the news media has a professional standard of not identifying the alleged victims of sex crimes who don't wish to be identified. They in effect counted on the fact that the press would leave the divorce/custody dispute context out of the discussion to try to win a losing case in the court of public opinion. I don't know if the congressional members quoted knew about that context, but Christensen probably does and the SVCs definitely do. And I kind of have a problem with that.

Prosecutors are supposed to have a professional obligation not to "win," but to see that justice is done. i.e. If a prosecutor finds out that they've probably got the wrong guy, or that their office convicted the wrong guy in the past, they have a professional duty to dismiss the charges or seek to have the previous conviction overturned. How does that work with the obligations of an SVC? Obviously an SVC is supposed to be an advocate for the alleged victim... But in an Air Force that allegedly believes in "Integrity First," surely one has an obligation not to make arguments one knows are specious to try to win in the press when you're losing on the law and might lose on the facts. If this is considered "Okay" by the Air Force, then I have a problem with SVCs as a career field just like I have a problem with OSI.

At least not as worthless as base SAPR coordinator (actual full time position)

Well Gents, it’s been fun but Duck is now a twice passed over Captain on his way out the door. I appreciate all of you who reached out and offered me advice throughout the years. I know that I will have a ton of questions going forward as I transition to the next step. This community is awesome and I love (most of) you guys.

Congrats man! I have a feeling you’ll be missed (in your real life squadron.)

Pointy-nosed generals? Those are politicians first. Just like the heavy generals. And aren’t those heavy generals just doing amazing work with the MAF?

AMC is probably the most queep infested command right now.  Our generals and aspiring generals wouldn’t know what a cockpit looked like anymore despite having pilot wings on their chest.

  11. The Donald may be on the verge of one of the biggest peace breakthroughs in recent history and people are getting wrapped around the axel regarding Trump (returning) a salute to a NK General.  We really are in trouble. People focus more on optics than the actual issue. (For the record I thought it was stupid regarding people getting spun up about Obama bowing.)  Plenty of material to criticize any President on, this is not one of them.

Let’s be realistic about who the MAF is sending back to UPT. Our manning and experience is becoming as critical as the CAF, we can’t afford good pilots leaving the communities outside of special programs. Besides a few volunteers for family reasons, those we send back are typically not our strongest swimmers, and some are barely above drowning at any given second.

Well then hopefully the PIT IPs do their job and wash them out.  If they make it through PIT, then hopefully they are trainable.

Our group shop has 4 pilots (1 Maj & 3 Capt) and 1 SNCO. Up until this recent batch of that just took over most were pigeons, couldn’t get them out of the office to fly a local let alone a mission. Saw a few come scrambling down because HARM threatened shut off their flight pay because they’d gone three months without touching a jet.

To be fair, sometimes when you go off to an attached job your boss micromanages your flying schedule and shits on you when you’re gone.  Then yes, sometimes some pilots hate flying- detracts from building their CGOQ package.

New LTs at UPT were already saying “this is the coolest job in he world! Too bad the AF sucks and I will be getting out in 10 years” as soon as they showed up. No one was saying that 10 years ago when I went through UPT. LTs are dumb, but they aren’t stupid.

There comes a time in any organization where people start to get salty.  When I showed up it was about the time someone was a mid level major.  Now, it’s freaking LTs in UPT.  That’s a problem guys.

It's about effing time.  90mb is a joke.  Hell, the Army, with half their folks not knowing what a gb is, doles out 4gigs to everyone.

Now - brace yourself for that old crusty civilian shotgun emailing 10mb flyers for the Friday afternoon donut sale.

My favorite are the CGOC bakesale, “mentoring session,” or circle jerk session sent by the CGOC President..who also happens to be a finance LT, no wonder our finance shop is a mess/ never open/ takes 2 months to process vouchers.

Just got word from a friend that the promotion list for 09 Maj board will be sent to senior raters tomorrow.  Promotion release will be 19 June.

So if senior raters get the list tomorrow is it common for them to notify folks?

They are probably going to say: "Well that was a nice experiment.  We are going to file that one as evidence, throw the results out, and skip over '09.  CY18D will proceed without '09.  '09, thank you for your service; it reflects great credit upon yourself and the United States Air Force.  Now goodbye."

They can’t do that, where will they find all the FGOs to fill 365 taskers for Chief of PowerPoint?

what was second of all? i might have missed that

wasting two years in college playing mental ping pong and not banging hot chicks is going to be one of your life regrets.

i think you're over thinking it. one step at a time and enjoy the journey along the way (cliche i know)...there are so many variables that are beyond your control right now.

enjoy the hell out of your last year of college

+1 to danger's advice about picking the mission you want.

He’s at the academy, he’s not banging any “hot chicks”..

  19. Congress f&&king over the Air Force? Say it isn’t so.

Edit:  Don’t we have a guardsman on here who also happens to work at the capitol building?  Man, what a great way to right a wrong and build an immense amount of respect from his fellow Airmen.  Just saying!
