Say, in a socialist society, doesn't somebody ultimately make the decisions, allocate the resources, and decide winners and losers?

Is there a site where I can download the application for that gig?

In doing some casual research, I'm not finding a poor socialist leader.  Heck, even Bernie is a multi-millionaire and, to the best of knowledge, he's never, since his late twenties, been anything other than a politician.

Yes, please, I'll have some of that.

    My neighbors can eat cake...

Bernie was on welfare in his early adult years, then somehow became a politician and is now a millionaire.  No one becomes rich in politics unless you are a corrupt crook.  I’d pay money to see him run again, watching him get evicerated will be entertaining.

Oh, you're a B-1 guy?  Sorry, we didn't realize that.  You better call the CEO directly.  He's expecting your call.

Pretty sure he wasn’t asking for special favors..B-1s fly a lot less than Mobility and 1x B-1 hour is not equal to 1x airlift hour.  Just like the fighter guys usually get a boost for low relative hours.

In my congressional district in central Texas we have a former USAF Helicopter pilot named MJ Hagar running against my Congressman, John Carter.

MJ had been shot down in combat, rides a motorcycle, and graduated from University of Texas AFROTC det 825, which was my det also.

I didn't meet her in AFROTC because I had been in the Air Force two years when she was born.

John Carter is kind of a douche, and I'd love to go out and knock on doors for MJ.

The problem is that MJ is running as Democrat and favors open borders, gun grabbing, impeachment and is very sympathetic to socialism.

This breaks my heart that such a good person is so misguided.

That’s disappointing, you would think that someone who was an Air Force Officer and helo pilot would be educated enough to not fall for this new wave of progressive socialism..or maybe she just wants the easiest path to votes.

At least McSally has been a fantastic rep and an outspoken defender of national security and service members.

As an aviator he is legit, as a combat leader he was beyond legit.  I know Boomer very well and had hoped he would be more effective at turning the ship.  A year after he took over we were having a private conversation.  We we talked about some of the changes, somethings that had yet to change and some recent buffoonery including silly shit like SECAF puking all over a Tbird.  I think I said something to the effect of "how can you let some of these things happen?"  He took a breath and replied "CH, you would be surprised how little power I actually have."  I'm not trying to defend him, just saying we need to keep the context of the political climate and political beasts that actually run the show.  Maybe if a few of these four stars spoke out and fell on their swords it might be different...but I've yet to see anyone with the selfless stones to do it.

This is important! While Welsh bears some of the burden of the issues we face, let’s remember the regieme in charge at the top at the time (not necessarily the most military friendly.)   Not to mention sequestration, a recovering economy..all that matters.

They can publish a GM to immediately 'fix the glitch' while it goes through full review or awaits republication of the next version.  This would restore some level of the institutional integrity that was lost by them saying one thing and doing another.

Yepp, kind of like the MAF AFMAN vol 1, two interim changes in 1 month and still haven’t gotten it right with utter confusion across the squadrons.  But still, better than nothing.

A huge percentage of healthcare costs goes towards keeping old people alive when they should be dead. We cannot have a productive conversation about changing the healthcare system in the US without first addressing this. In the market, it's simple: until you're out of money. But when it's the government's money, the system collapses before the fake money runs out.

I love my grandma. I like visiting her whenever I can. But she shouldn't be alive, and the amount of money being spent by Medicare to keep her alive is staggering, and the only thing she's dying from is old age (94 years old).

We can easily afford to give every child in America unlimited healthcare. In fact, I think it should be that way. Full coverage until age 20, then lifetime coverage for chronic conditions that manifested during childhood. After that, you better have insurance.

But if you think the boomers, or any other generation of senior citizens is ever going to vote for something where other people get free healthcare and they don't, just ask my Sean Hannity-quoting, millennial-bashing, proudly conservative father who loses his mind anytime someone mentions making cuts to his precious Medicare.

This doesn't even get into the issues of producing doctors, questionable data on the efficacy of medical coverage, incentives to plan for retirement, etc.

Correct, there are many  drivers of healthcare cost.  Another side to this argument is that the people screeching for universal healthcare are the same people advocating for open borders and paying for undocumented individuals.  How the hell do we pay for that?!

The best answer to healthcare would be to foster competition and innovation in the private market and have a small safety net for those who really need it.

Don't really have an opinion on this, but what does ethnic homogenousness have to do with anyhing?

As was mentioned before, homogenous means people think alike and thus it is easier to come to consensus and pass common laws.  If you’ve ever been to Japan you know what I’m talking about.  The Japanese are wonderful people, but most of them are not just ethnically homogenous but culturally as well.  Most act, think and even speak alike.

Also consider this, in Japan - it is considered a grave family sin to be a dead beat in society.  You won’t see many homeless people.  They are all ingrained with a common sense of work ethic and crime is pretty much non existent.  Thus, things like socialized medicine and even strict gun laws work there - the same can’t be said about the US.

When I was checking into my ops squadron after my FAIP tour, I got chiefed in the hallway for having an AETC patch on my leather jacket and not an ACC one.  I said something to the effect of “Copy that, thanks” to the chief.

She got butt hurt for me not apologizing about the patch and for not taking it off right away.  Another NCO came to me later that day and told me she was bothered by my reaction. I told him to tell her to come and talk to me if she has a problem, and I could not care less about the patch, and I’ll buy an ACC one as soon as the BX restocks them.  But I will be wearing my leather jacket in the mean time.  AETC patch and all.

She then went to the commander about me being an arrogant officer in need of correction.  Luckily, the commander didn’t give a shit.  But good hell. We make life so damn hard on ourselves.  I don’t think the AF can handle something as simple as multiple uniform options, because we have promoted and empowered the douchiest amongst us.

Zero chance we don’t fuck that up.

And I’m sure that wonderful Chief in all her wisdom gave you a positive welcome to a new unit.  Kind of like the Chief downrange who stopped my treadmill for me while I was running to tell me to tuck in my shirt.  I was about to lose my shit when a fellow Major from the squadron intervened and told said Chief that if he pulls that shit again he will call SF on him.  It was like hell broke lose if someone was caught with their sleeves up in the 109* heat.

    That’s 3 Wg/CCs from 18AF in the last 6 months.

We (The MAF) need to make some serious changes to how we pick our future leaders. Hint, professional execs turned Phoenix Horizon or even worse Torch ain’t working.

Good, drain that swamp.  Seriously.  Eliminate the Phoenix program and input a few FSS airmen and officers as execs (they would do a better job anyways.). Excelling in leadership in your primary duty and airframe should be the key discriminator in who we select for senior leadership.  The CAF seems to have figured this out, aren’t most CAF CCs and DOs weapons officers?

So CC's will be allowed to perform in house physical fitness testing again. This was removed from the squadron level because people were hooking each other up and we needed to kick more people out. Oh, and the old requirement forces you to purchase a PT uniform so you have to wear it once a year for your annual test. I'm tired of this back and forth buffoonery. PT uniforms serve no purpose. Give the contract to Nike or Under Armour so the uniforms make you want to use them when not working out at the base. Kind of like college football teams and their wide array of player uniform options to help recruit. Then I might actually buy the gear. Otherwise, I will stick to my Nike dri fit gear.

The AF doesn't give a damn about physical fitness. Stop pretending. In 2013/2014, they were going to start enforcing the reg on shoe colors. I called out our shirt. I'm like you don't know shit about fitness. I used to run at night and early in the morning and you always want running shoes that are highly reflective. I'm not talking clown colored shoes either (millennials style). The AF thought we should all run in certain colored shoes. Meaning, I should train everyday in my normal running shoes that are meant for my flat feet. Then I would have to swap out my running shoes for my annual fitness test for a pair of shoes within reg just to meet the AF color requirements. Every runner knows that's just asinine and could cause an injury. Companies make certain types of running shoes for the way your feet are shaped and how you run. They are limited in color options. Nike and Brooks don't give one shit about AF shoe color requirements. Lets pander to the AF because they matter to our billion dollar industry nobody has ever said.

I hope this is true! Nothing yells buffoonery like allowing in house flight evaluations to see if you’re safe to fly a multi million dollar airplane, but have a “fitness cell” at each base to administer PT tests because they don’t trust commanders.

I get URT is all in the sim, I’m a graduate of the course.  All I’m asking is that if UPT Next works out and it’s 90% sim and only 30 hours in the T-6 then why even keep URT as a separate training pipeline at all?  Seems like squeezing drone drivers through the course would provide flexibility to flow into other airframes instead of being limited to just the MQ-9 and RQ-4.  Apologies for the thread derail.

It’s not going to work, someone is going to get killed.  I am legitimately surprised the Air Force is going through with this disasterous idea.  I knew the Air Force was pretty stupid but I didn’t know we could hit this new low of stupidity.  How many more class As or fatalities will it take for the clowns at staff to realize you can’t cut corners in the business of aviation? Do they think these UPT next or whatever dudes are going to get trained at the FTU or ops squadrons? Who is going to train them!? Most of your experienced IPs are either gone or queep guzzling up at Group or Wing Staff.

So PRFs or no PRFs for the P0418D line of the AF majors board?

On aside not, my CC was like I'm not congratulating these dudes from the last board. They didn't earn their rank. I busted out in laughter and I've grown to accept we are changing as a force. Let me know how it shakes out after I retire in 2 years. #NotMyProblem

Your CC is a tool and one of the reasons we have a retention problem.

  15. Until they start paying guys who stay in comparable to year 2-3 salary at the airlines not much is going to stick...people can claim “it isn’t about the money,” but when the 9-10 year post UPT dudes with families start hearing their bros talk about how awesome their airline gig is in terms of $ v QOL the decision matrix becomes real simple.

BLUF: Majors or Major-selects with 11-13 YOS can apply starting soon. Seemed like you only fly plus work stan eval, training or tactics. PME and AAD are optional. ALso targeting 5 years at one duty station.

11-13 years? That’s convenient, so right for the dudes about to get out.

Well considering you have apparently no interest in coming prepared to a real conflict based on yours and other’s statements on here, I would expect you to continue to be a puppet because the people do come prepared aren’t going to have the time to wait for you to get back in the vault to get smart on stuff you should know as a military aviator.

We fight the same mentality in the C-17 world. “I don’t have RWR so why do I care about SAM threats? I can’t do anything about them.” It’s a false assumption and a willful lack of critical thinking.

The other one I’ve heard is “We would’ve had the SEAD take care of the RF threat before we even take off so I don’t need to waste my time studying those threats.”

I had a buddy recently TDY at the ops desk showing us all photos of a tinder chick (she was smoking) and he played the drunken messages she left him about meeting up.

That evening he asked me to give him a ride to meet her. We had a beer waiting til she showed, when she did, I probably laughed out loud and saw his face.

All we had seen was her face shot, the rest of here looked like a washing machine.

    Anyhow, be careful when shopping.

Be extra careful when shopping overseas, especially Southeast Asia, turns out a lot of the “girls” are ladyboys.  Easy to hide details like that on tinder.

Basically, I've seen specialists off base who disagree with our flight doctors. I've seen this happen 3 times now and I have lost a little faith in flight medicine. I have seen doctors and specialists off base completely disagree with flight doctors. Pretty sure I'm not the only one here.

I had surgery a few years ago. My surgeon called flight medicine to ensure the pharmacy would have my post op meds. Immediately after my surgery, I had my girlfriend drive me to the base in order to pickup my paperwork for quarters. I waited 2 hours and still didn't receive my meds. I told the airman at the pharmacy counter twice I was post op and the gauze was pretty easily to see on my neck. I fell asleep and still didn't have my meds so I went off base and had the prescription filled in 15 minutes. I was totally embarrassed in front of my girlfriend because she receives the best care through her company's insurance plan. Also, I was told someone at the pharmacy walked off the job that week creating total chaos. A CC I spoke with said this is becoming standard and I'm not the first so I just accepted it.

PCS to a new base. Had an issue that was misdiagnosed at the previous base. I was in pain on a scale of 10/10 at this point and on narcotics. The flight doctor sent me in for an MRI via referral management. After my open MRI, I felt dirty because the lady gave me a Panera Bread gift card. I told referral management not to use that place again! Luckily, my surgeon didn't accept the MRI images or results. He said I needed to have them done at a certain hospital because the place where I went MRI images would be too blurry and he hadn't even seen them. The report from the MRI said everything was negative. After having a closed MRI, my issue was pretty obvious to my surgeon when the images came back. I was battling the issue for years and flight medicine did not properly diagnose me. The flight doctor I helped is the one who got me to the right specialist. I had surgery a few weeks later and my problem is gone! Took 4 years bro!

When your quality of life and health care starts to suck. It's time to go. Med Groups are starting to mimic the VA model.

Do you guys feel as though our on base care is diminishing or is in decline?

Sounds like you went through such an ordeal.  Glad it got taken care of.  Med group Varies by base.  At my current base they are phenomenal and absolutely professional.  They get you in and out ASAP and work to keep you on flying status/ being able to work your job.  At my old base they were awful.  Constantly closed for some BS exercise or training.  PHAs were a full day event.  Paperwork constantly lost.  The med group even delayed a contingency deployment to provide hurricane relief because people didn’t have their shots - mind you this was to a location we went to all the time.

Funny enough, the base CGOC was full of medical officers.  Seems like they had time for bake sales and “mentoring sessions” while their troops were providing grade D service.
