    Also this:

Looks like Trump is going to back us out completely and hand Syria to Russia because, well frankly, he loves giving gifts to Russia as well as blocking any attempt to punish them for their actions.

Your sources are CNN and NY times, hardly non partisan sources especially when it comes to Trump.  It’s like quoting Sean Hannity when criticizing Obama.

It's no more sickening than publicly warning of missile strikes against Syria, waiting a week for Assad to empty out and evacuate facilities, and then proclaim "Mission Accomplished" for spending $90+ million to move some fucking rubble around.

Or firing your second National Security Advisor after he publicly expressed a hard stance against Russia.

Or firing your Secretary of State after he publicly expressed a hard stance against Russia.

Or shelving the Russia sanctions passed by Congress with near-unanimous support.

Or saying our UN ambassador was "confused" when she announced the US was thinking about additional sanctions against Russia for the Syrian chem attacks.

Or personally leaking critical intel from our allies to Putin's ambassador during a WH meeting, and also burning our source for said intel in the process.

Or firing the FBI director, and then publicly and openly admitting in an interview that he fired him over "the Russian thing".

Or repeatedly getting caught in lies about dozens of campaign contacts with Russians who have ties to the Kremlin.

Or having campaign personnel and your first National Security Advisor plead guilty for lying to the FBI over their Russian contacts.

At this point I don't know what it'll take for Trump's supporters to just acknowledge that this man is compromised, is a present and clear threat to the nation, and needs to be removed. It isn't a partisan matter. Pence is the successor and there isn't a single liberal who wants to see that hyper-religious zealot in the Oval Office. But it's better him than a traitor.

Wow, lay off the MSNBC bro it’s getting to your head.

Food for thought -- it's obvious to me that AF A1 has instituted new guidance instructing senior raters to ignore lack of DE in correspondence for both IDE/SDE nomination and BTZ promotion selection in order to curb the retention crisis.  I am in favor of the guidance and appreciate, that in theory, I will not be dinged because I don't have ACSC in correspondence done for my third look for IDE (candidate status) and 2BPZ look to O-5 this year.  I have some skin in the game as I would otherwise be competitive for BPZ but I don't have PME done.  I'm wondering if we'll see promotion rates go up for BPZs Air Force wide without PME completion.  It should be fairly obvious if the Senior Raters are following this guidance or if it's like a jury trial where the judge instructs the jury to "ignore what you just heard"....but it's very hard to ignore what you just heard.  Thoughts?

Then you have to factor in the rogue Wing Commanders who will still do everything the old way (like still making dudes do PRFs for Major) because that’s the way that made them successful.

I’ve told him to his face why at one of his “CGO round tables” on why pilots are leaving.   It’s time he starts firing some wing commanders who are still propelling the queep monster while their pilot exec minions’ 90 day time is in the low tens.

Ya it can go both ways for sure but I’d rather get 1200 instructor hours and lots of airmanship before heading off into the real Air Force. Especially when they cut the syllabus in half. You’ll get more than your fill of the operational world. They got you for 10 long years...What’s the rush?

Idk ask any of the mid to senior captains yanked off the Sq flying deployments because their ground job making PowerPoints and editing OPRs is more important.  It’s a young man’s game for the most part.

Kicking the can seems to be the trend, how will it manifest down the road.

Honestly I think it is good to revisit the syllabus from time to time, but when you push basic flying tasks to the operational unit that comes at a cost to MR training.  My bigger fear is we have lowered the bar and it we will see the accident rate spike.

This is my biggest fear.  There was no coincidence between the sudden spike in pilot related accidents and the sequestration of 2013.  I remember having to shove 8 copilots on a 2 hour pro sortie to get their monthly takeoff, approach and landing.  We cannot keep doing more with less and cutting basic pilot proficiency.  The bean counting cucks will never learn.

Just had a day of local leave (approved by my flt/cc in the sqd on leaveweb) get full up denied in leaveweb because per the FSS Airman in reference to AFI umptifrats, my first-line supervisor needs to approve it.  I've had lots of leave approved through the years and NEVER has it been denied.  Why now??  Isn't it enough that i've spent xx hours defeating comm to get Leaveweb to actually work and let me sign, but now my flt/cc doesn't have the authority to approve my leave?!  :bash:

FSS strikes again! Why the hell does an airman in FSS need to be an approval level for leave? Isn’t this the kind of stuff Goldfingers talked about where we give back power to Squadron Commanders?

Also not sure which is worse, DTS or Leaveweb.  Filling out a voucher or leave form manually worked just fine back in the day.

As annoying as it is, there are some missions that need to be practiced to maintain capability, and are not done regularly out there.
Hopefully, the guy running exercises will be able to cut the unnecessary ones...

As for OREs...yeah, that doesn't make sense.

True, I’ve just seen time and time again actual missions get axed so guys can participate in b*ttf*ckery like running around in chem gear through decon lines for the fifth time that year.

What you identify as poor leadership is actually someone asking you as an IP to be a fucking adult, sorry that is so difficult for you.  Enjoy the airlines, I am sure you "me only" attitude will serve you quite well in the interview process.

For the record I retired to get away from caustic leadership and a broken system,  I think most of the people that served with me (some on here), know I was not into the you should be ridiculed because I was ridiculed routine, but getting offended because someone asks you to make sure you training paperwork is squared away...dear god, get the sand out of your vagina.

I agree with you that asking someone to do their job as an IP is not unreasonable; that was not a good example of said 06’s shitty leadership - there are numerous other examples that everyone can identify with that constitute the very caustic leadership that drove you out: for example, said 06 lecturing the DOs that this #unity march takes precedence over all and any mission planning for the day.  Can we all agree that this is a valid criticism of today’s 06+ leadership force and one of the reasons that drive good dudes out?

Are you at Travis? This sounds like Travis. File a complaint with the 18AF IG. Or just send this to JQP. Maybe your Sq/CC could say “unable, here’s a laundry list of real-world reasons” and cc the world.

No, Dyess.  Problem is this resiliency push is coming from HQ AMC and higher.  They want people to make posters for the event.  Flying squadron DO said his poster will be #getthefbacktowork.

Under the new wing leadership our Sq leadership has had to fight many battles..they have to pick and chose which ones are worth fighting.  I’m guessing a day wasted is not a battle worth fighting, but still worthy sport b*tching about!

Meh, he is regurgitating what others are throwing out.

    BREAK BREAK

There has been a marked improvement in leadership in all levels of my chain of command over the past couple years. I am hopeful that eventually we will be in a much better place, but the Air Force is now suffering the consequences of epically poor decision making/culture of previous commands.

Meh, I'm glad some people feel that way.  However, in our neck of the woods in AMC, not so much the case.   Case in point: our "wingman day" is this coming Monday and our WING/CC has a full fun day of events planned for the wing, to include a #unity march (that's what he is actually calling it) to start the day, followed by an array of briefs from different "experts" on how not to kill yourself.  This day will also include a "fair" with different base support agencies, the same ones who take 6 months to process PCS orders or forget to turn off your HDP even after you remind them 15 times and then ask you to come in to their office at odd ball times to fill out paperwork for indebtedness.  All of this is going on while we have an unprecedented ops tempo with 3 different exercises, a deployment getting ready to go out the door, and several dudes coming in on weekends to catch up on work and hooking their checkrides because flying is obviously not a priority for "leadership."  This is when we aren't doing the six iterations of CBRNE or SABC refresher for our upcoming surges.

And they wonder why they have a retention problem?  Then they have the nerve to send out all these surveys asking why pilots are leaving yet waste everyone's time having them show up to a freaking "#unity march" like we are a bunch of college kids from Berkley.    A Major in our squadron said it best today: "I bet American Airlines doesn't have mandatory unity marches and briefings on how not to kill yourself"...

Ah, I see Chiefs wasting everyone’s oxygen and time downrange still exists.  Do they brainwash them at Chief school or does it happen earlier in their career?

Also, where do they find the spineless CCs that enable said SNCOs?

I knew there was a pilot shortage but these details blow my mind. I'm headed to Sheppard in May and this thread has me thinking I'm walking into a shit show on AD. Sounds like it's gonna be 11-12 yrs of flying 1-2 times a week, being frustrated with leadership, and watching dudes leave in droves for the airlines. Excited to work through initial training for 13 months (plus FTU etc.) to join this club :drinking:

And I can absolutely confirm that avg, PCSMs and general stats are down, and when you're taking 600+ cadets in a board you can bet it takes a lot to make the average move a little. Just saw a couple guys who were ranked near the bottom of their class of 30 for quite some time  for attitude, PT performances, and just general competency get pilot slots. Other guys with PCSMs in the teens and 20s keep getting slots, too. Combine that with the gutting of the SUPT syllabus and the aged state of the AF fleet, and we're in for a multi-decade safety and readiness rodeo. Though this is all based on my extremely rudimentary civilian/cadet understanding, of course.

Worries aside I am excited as hell, it just sure does seem like big blue is trending south, hard.

I love military aviation,  I hate most parts of the Air Force...if you can know the difference and focus on what you value, you will have a fulfilling career.

AMD is trying to have a compnay picnic at the barbecue area by the Bra, and apparently whoever will be manning the grill needs to receive food safety training from the EFSS before we're allowed to do it.  I'm rolling my eyes as hard as I can.

Are these the same jokers who regulate squadron bars home station? Oh I’m sorry..”heritage room”..”bar” may offend some people.

Also, when asked how RTUs, already struggling with absorption of new -38 grads, are going to absorb more students the officer running the brief stated emphatically, "RTUs don't have an absorption problem." Doesn't seem that way from where I'm sitting. What say you?

They just don’t get it..or maybe they do; and have accepted the fact that they cannot retain talent so now they are looking at the only way to make the pilot number slides green: ramp up production. To no ones surprise, they are doing so via absurd and literally unsafe ideas.

We are already seeing the experience sucked out of the squadrons as the squadrons get younger and younger.  God help us if we get T-6 direct students.

Doesn't help that the system now views "exec" as a stepping stone to promotion, so there's incentive for guys to take it (and incentive for commanders to pick their best people for it, which is how you end up with patches double-checking OPRs at the group and wing level instead of doing patch stuff)

It’s a never ending, frustrating cycle.  Those who rose up the ranks by serving multiple tours as an exec will foster the same system that allowed them to get ahead.  Glad to see it’s not just AMC that has no clue how to use their patches.

Aviation Leadership Program; we take the best and brightest from up and coming countries (former eastern bloc, South America, Africa, etc) and put them through a 10-month T-6 only syllabus (basically T-6s twice) and then give them USAF wings and send them back home. It's a mil-pol program, because we take the young lts who show promise to become higher ranking/chiefs of staff/etc later on, so if we need to conduct ops in/need support from their country in the future (when these ALP'sters are in charge), we can hopefully cash in on the good experience/training/memories they have of the US/USAF.

Most of them are already pilots in their home country; some of it can be pretty easy (I taught a Colombian Tucano pilot - flying with him was like flying CT, and he had gnarly stories about going after drug runners) but some can be ridiculously difficult due to language/cultural barriers or the fact that the kid may have never seen an airplane until he flew to America, so the whole concept of aviation is foreign (no pun intended).

This info is CAO 2010 from Columbus (which I think was the only base doing ALP back then), others may have more current info...

And with the exception of the Italians most of them (Saudis, Nigerians) are god awful and don’t deserve to be near an airplane let alone pilot it.
