I recently saw a picture of an Army pilot went green to blue. His name patch on his pickle suit had Army and Air Force Wings on it. Do they still allow this?

The explanation I was given (from a guy who went through the course and passed) was it was almost like what you and I would think of an AQC....they assume you already know everything about helicopters...you are just going to learn how to fly that specific airframe. That was the biggest reason. A lot of guys who flew rotary wing all their lives were being put through a course without any basic instruction on fixed wing. It was a real baptism by fire, and some made it through just fine...but not enough for them to justify keeping the program alive.

I would not expect it to be coming back due to the washout rate they experienced when the course was in place.

I will respond with one reason to consider for removable magazines. Consider the home invasion scenario where you have multiple homes invaders with the intent to harm you and yours. The majority of malfunctions within a semi-automatic firearms tend to be the feeding device. A removable magazine is essential to you remedial actions when dealing with a malfunction in a gun fight. If Tap/Rack/Pull doesn't work, the next option is, drop the mag, clear the jam, insert new mag, go. Again, this is one reason to consider. I am sure there are many more reasons individuals can come up with. For me in my home, I always have multiple magazines loaded and ready to go for every self-defense firearm in my home.

Are Reserves typically pushed through pretty quick as well?

Is this an active duty specific thing? Do national guard get pushed through faster? I ask because this was the case at Army IERW. You would have guys waiting for months for their advanced course while the guard guys were turned around in a couple weeks.

I am coming from another branch and am having trouble finding out what exactly a Form 8 is so I can provide the equivalent copies from the Army. Can anyone give me a description of what this form is used for?

As you know apply everywhere and multiple times if necessary. Get awesome scores and make a lot of visits to the units. Show them why you are the best candidate for the job.

This is how the Army does it. We find out the list of airframes right before selection. They bring each person up in OML order and sometimes even the very last guy wins too! Sometimes everyone wants apaches and all the Army has to offer that day is blackhawks....other days...everyone wants Chinooks and all they have is apaches... There are also two separate lists for selection. One for Officers and one for Warrant Officers.

I have a question regarding customs and courtesies. Is it appropriate to address pilots by their callsign or is that reserved for those already within the fold?
