You're competitive. At least 2-3 of the folks in my pilot training class had a resume like yours. I would definitely consider lasik. Either way, you'll need a waiver. Tactical flying in glasses can be obnoxious. It's not too early to apply. Start rushing guard units now.

By the time this pilot is flying the viper, some Q3 in T6's will matter just as much as being caught for stealing the crayons in kindergarten. Enjoy your buff.

You're right. There might be someone that actually tries to follow that plan. Just to be clear, there's no way to add g's to your strain.

Jump on a trampoline 20 minutes a day while clenching all your muscles and holding your breath. It'll add up to 2 G's to your strain in just 6 weeks.

You'll be fine. Lots of outdoor activities with good local restaurants and low crime pretty much describes that entire area. In terms of a house search, most of the really big yards are in suburban boring areas, so you might be facing a tradeoff there. Commuting is easy and the drivers are some of the most polite I've seen anywhere.

What were they thinking? T-1s are no place to prepare new pilots for a large airplane or the CRM that goes with it.

Nope. Lots of us have business degrees. Some pilots even have art, history, or theatre degrees. GPA is more important than major in most cases. Caveat: if you want to become a test pilot, you need to have an engineering degree. And test does open other doors if that's you cup of tea.

AF's a great springboard to life/career. That said, I don't think I'd encourage my kids to do anything requiring more than a 4-year commitment, sadly including my own job.

I had an 8am Spanish class at the local community college that morning. I left class around 9. There was a TV in the hallway with a large crowd. I caught a peek of the TV with the WTC burning and asked a fellow student what was going on. He said that there was a horrible accident and a plane hit the tower. Almost on cue, the second plane hit on live TV. There was a collective gasp of realization that this was no accident. I spent the rest of the day glued to the TV and most of the next week trying to figure out some way to help. I had no rescue skills so driving to NY or DC was out of the question. When the recruiter's office reopened within the next week, I was one of the first through the door. I shipped to BMT at the end of that semester with hundreds of like-minded souls.

In this case, resourcing is more than just a question of cost. That said, I think the real value will come from downtime for training and reconstitution.

2:1 combat to dwell time. Units will spend 1/3 of the year in a noncombat training status.
