  1. In more morale patch wearing news, Holy S, how could this Lt head off to war while wearing an LPA patch? This time it's on the af.mil homepage no less and in front of his son! I'm just waiting for the clerks to lunge on this one.
  2. I just checked out the FL 529 plans and am quite impressed. Seems like a very viable option. I don't think I'm going to pay for everything but the 2+2 plan seems reasonable. I was under the impression that 529 plans were limited to that state only, the fact that at least they will pay whatever they would pay for an in state school adds some value. Awesome link DH!!!! Many thanks.
  3. I thought the biggest dumbness at CBM was that darn motto. I know MS doesn't rank up there as far as education goes but adopting a motto with a blatent misspelling is stupid. BLAZE??? Building Leaders, Advancing Integrity, Zervice Before Self, Excellence in all we do. Is it still up on the hangar??
  4. Excellent question. We have one on the way and I'm wondering the same thing. Who knows maybe in a couple of months the govt will be paying for it.
  5. What a tool. Why would he think it is appropriate to publicly shame a Captain? It's one thing to correct someone on their sunglasses and even that is quite clerky but to do so in a mag or online? I'm completely speechless. I've got to wonder if they started handing out article 15s for disrespect/insubordination they might start sending the right message. It was her choice to wear that patch in that picture and I think it's hilarious. I also understand how some might object to it. However it's not his place to shame her and the shoes need to start learning this crap. I'd love to hear about a shoe getting stomped in such fashion.
  6. What role would taxes play on interest rate? If taxes are more over in GB would that not make money more "scarce" and therefore drive up interest rates?
  7. It doesn't hurt it in the conventional sense it cheapens it, it equates two completely different career fields. The very fact that the training is called undergraduate this or that is a farce as well. Why don't we just start the campaign to rewrite the Air Force song while we're at it since it is too aircrew centric
  8. So it looks like you guys over there will have to let us know when you REMFed by a cadet. http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123103880

    Call Signs

The 9th BS (Bats) names their casuals Guano 1, 2, 3 etc. sort of like an FNG system for casuals.
  10. I wish they would do question and answers and commander's calls via anonymous method like a drop box. That way you aren't the only jackass standing and immediately being passed up for promotion when you ask why morale patches aren't allowed. I'd respect it a whole lot more if the commander said "because I'm the commander and I think they look unprofessional, or even a because I said so" than if they just left it up to the uniform nazis.
  11. Reminds me of when one our ADOs was walking back to the dorm in December in his PTs, it was cold as all get out and he committed the sin of putting his hands in his pockets. A shoe summarily told him to take his hands out of his pockets. His response was why? It is cold as all get out. The response was that he might trip. He told him that was the stupidest reason he'd ever heard. The shoe turned out to be some first sergeant, and he had to get a talking to about it. Drive by REMFing was also humorous. How safe is it to yell at someone "REFLECTIVE BELT," while being behind the wheel of a vehicle? Man I wish he would have hit another vehicle. By the time my time was up over me and another guy were so fed up we actually devised a plan to get as many people as there were cadillacs to fake that they were TCN escorts and simultaneously get everyone out with their standard (5 mins to closing bwahh) and going to the next cadillac only to find it was closed. If it were only shoe clerks that I was victimized we probably would have done it. The REMFING was so rampant I thought anyday we would have to start having these on hand:
  12. This is just another reason why you should stay at home and get drunk. F-ing retarded. Damned if you do an damned if you don't. I'd like to get this crap all over Hannity and see the outrage from the public.
  13. Couldn't make it to the scarf and barf? Excuse me I mean the flight kitchen. The smell of that place led me to lose around 20 lbs, thank goodness I gained them all back.
  14. I don't know, I haven't had many problems with finance, compared to other people. But I do know this, when I hand some cash and checks over to the teller at my local bank, I have full faith and confidence that my deposit will go through as fragged. And if it doesn't or there is some problem, they usually can tell me right then and there, you forgot to sign here or there will be a hold etc. I don't sit there and wonder if they screwed it up, and if they deposited too little or too much. But when it comes time to PCS or go TDY I have an idea of how much I should be getting via published DLA rates, estimates on a partial DITY calculator, knowledge of per diem rates etc. I file my paperwork and go back in and ask for an explanation of everything I was paid for as soon as I am paid for it. I have caught $500 mistakes a couple of times. Basically, I have heard too many horror stories and seen too much empirical evidence in my own affairs to trust that I will be paid properly. Now I don't know if this is because that people don't care, or if the system is too complicated, the A1C is filing the paperwork but the SSgt is the one that is really proficient at said task. But I know this, if it were any other institution I would take my business elsewhere. Hell, at this point I'd rather pay 25-50 a month for a pseudo CPA to work on my behalf to make sure I get paid properly. The problem is in the military you are stuck with what you have. I can't fire finance, I can only go in there and hope for the best and spend hours out of my work-week making sure they have done their job properly. Good bad or indifferent, it is what it is and I will continue to be leary of finance at best. If aircrew screw up it's people's lives and potentially millions of dollars. Maybe if finance screws up then they all get docked pay, you paid me too much through no fault of my own, so all of the staff gets to pitch in and pay because of your mistake. I don't know how you create an incentive to do it better.
  15. Okay, i just inprocessed at Hurlburt and things have just taken a turn for the worse, nothing has gone wrong yet but I see massive potential for it do so. Now instead of filing a PCS voucher themselves, finance has to ship them out (maybe scanning them) to the new fangled central processing center at Ellsworth. Now you can't even hate your local finance office anymore, you have to hate the center at ellsworth, and when you call them up to tell them that your probably really hating on some indian guy working at a call center. Just another reason of why you need to keep every copy of everything you ever turn in. And check your credit reports regularly. You never know when some laptop is going to go missing at the Bank of Air Force containing your SSN.
  16. Honor to the heroes they who above all deserve it. Honor to the families for they above all have earned it. Honor to our brothers and sisters for they will carry on... All poetic notions aside, Godspeed to the dearly departed. Thanks to baseops family for keeping us informed, not for morbid curiousity but because we take care of our own and I have no doubt that we will.
  17. Abilene sucks as far as vegetation. Don't spend more than you are willing to flush down the drain.
  18. I wonder if he said "tweet complete" over the radio? I know studs used to get in trouble for that at CBM.
  19. Following the logic, shouldn't it be AFSEC and not SECAF?
  20. How is this situation any different than running with a kite on a day when there is no wind vs running with a kite on a treadmill with no wind present?
  21. Thread revival, just got TAMIed and put down U-28s as my first choice, have most guys been getting the U-28 that have put them down as their first choice?
  22. My wife DVRed it, did she graduate from Columbus by any chance?
  23. I heard somethhing funny on the bus today. A group of newbies were talking about how glad they were to be here, it was a vacation from base X. I told them I leave for that very base in a couple of days and can't wait to get home I then asked what they did. One of them spoke up and responded "I'm a video troop," I half laughed and asked what that was, well they run cameras and crap and basically work for comm. WTF... video troop??? We have taken this every airman a warrior mantra wayyyy to far.
  24. Yes and Yes The latest practical joke Flt Medicine is playing is not telling anyone that they are now closed from 0000-0600, sucks for our bros going to go fly in Afghanistan who had no idea and didn't get their gos.
  25. Well it's not so much a direct upgrade persay, in order to qualify you have to have 300 hours post FTU and 50 RAP/Contingencie sorties or 750 total hours plus 50 post FTU hours. That only is half the ticket though really as you would have to fly with someone also qualified as a mission lead. In order to upgrade to that status its the same hour requirements as AC except you have to be combat ready for 6 months. So a FAIP will move along the timeline faster than other copilots but it's not an all encompassing direct upgrade.
