  1. Thanks for coming here and talking things out. I've been fortunate to have several good leaders at various levels with the same view on talking with the troops, bars, morale, etc. One of them also took away/forced renaming of multiple people with potentially offensive stories behind their call signs. No one held it against him personally, since we all know where it started and that he'd get fired for appearing anything less than all in. Similarly, I don't think this board hates you, on the contrary people love the AF, don't want to see people leave and are passing on to you exactly what needs to be changed-you hit on it in the last paragraph, the redefinition of harassment to call all men ( and many of the female aircrew) harassers. We all know the AF has budget crunches, etc but most of the things people don't like are self imposed-if it was started by an AFI or policy letter it can be removed at no cost by same (heck, even just an email from the original certifying authority). 2. I didn't see anything about harassment in that memo - beyond that banning all the offensive stuff is supposed to prevent it. If offensiveness is still tolerated, how come wing direction a few months ago was to stop using KIA/EKIA in awards/OPR bullets? You hope not to destroy the morale and tradition of the CAF, and everyone on here is giving you front line advice on how not to. í Who are the others?
  3. On the MXG/MSG issue, if you've been around crew chiefs, cops or EOD to name a few they like drinking and dirty/ dark humor just as much as we do. Honest question on the second point then, what is the end state WRT offensiveness? Some vegans I've met have the same reaction to beef as an EO manager would have to so to speaks. Will we discourage squadron burger burns? Then, many Baptists are offended by alcohol - close the class six? Ban coffee makers to support conservative Mormons who believe caffeine is wrong? The idea of trying to be non-offensive to everyone (vs making it clear that regardless of language, harassment and assault will be dealt with swiftly by any member of the squadron) quickly becomes a slippery slope.
  4. We don't "need" it to do our jobs. We also don't need masters degrees, wellness days with bouncy castles for the kids, or even weekends off. People do work better when they have morale and a tight knit culture (one that can't be imposed - it has to develop). In addition, we need aggressive professionals - someone with a corporate mentality won't be as effective at taking a 60 into a hot LZ or Hogs/Vipers on a one way trip across the Fulda Gap/DMZ. Part of developing the aggressiveness and trust among those you will kill with is knowing they will always have your back and you theirs; no matter how offensive the situation, you will always protect each other as brothers/sisters. Finally, I have known people who were harassed; equating so to speaks, bar songs and 69 jokes with their situations or the trauma of some of the Invisible War stories cheapens what was suffered by true victims.
  5. Not for a while. Don't worry about it.
  6. Maybe the Lt needs some mentoring on what's important then.
  7. Yes, they do; you have a decent chance at Dyess considering the number that usually request RCA - ask the DSA office when you get there. Rapid City actually has more culture than Abilene so the photo business might do better there; don't base your career decisions on that.
  8. If only there was some type of notice published on a central FAA website or ATC agency you could contact to figure out if a MOA is hot. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4
  9. Yep...knew a dude whose fini flight was his AC checkout - and his wife couldn't be there since she had to stay home to wait for HHG.
  10. Instructors and more experienced dudes seem to do a good job of at least the informal "roll call" style of feedback. However, it never makes it into official documents, leaving the CC to use quantifiable things like PT/masters/CGOC/etc as a basis for rating people. We generally have instructor meetings to discuss dudes for upgrades - maybe the answer is to do the same for strats (and then ADOs meet to discuss FLT/CCs, etc). FLT/CCs often can't effectively mentor in a CAF squadron since they're FAIPs and pushing through MQT/upgrade themselves (because PRF season).
  11. Shack. My early instructors/supervisors were worried about their masters for their O-5 boards, my YG is trying to get their TUI degrees done as mid level captains, and I have a shop full of lieutenants to pull towards the 3-1 from their Embry-Riddle discussion boards. For all the straight number thinking in the ACP thread, leadership should realize it gets what it rewards. If 2/3 of your 1206s and promotion strat calculators are self improvement, community involvement, and PT scores, you'll end up with a lot of highly educated guys that can run to the Q2 soup kitchen in 9 minutes.
  12. If they did, they'd get jailed or executed. At least they're not in an intolerant place like the US though.
  13. Same here... Tapatalk on WiFi works as well - don't know if it relays through their servers in the states or something
  14. "At this time..." and repeating every callsign twice when calling C2/ATC.
  15. Many tactical a/c have GPS/INS that are good enough to drop weapons... the problem is the lawyer/FAA driven certification $$$
  16. I don't think the IRS will go after BO.net... they realize it's important to pick your battles.
  17. In the Bone you'll jump to the front of the list for upgrades and shop/flight CC jobs as soon as you get to the squadron, regardless of level of CAF/MDS experience.
  18. Agree - not saying I wouldn't lawyer up, just disagreeing with the stance that they can't do anything to you if you don't talk and they can't prove anything. As Cannon said, LOR/LOC/etc info requires no evidence but can still torpedo a career.
  19. Until they report it to your chain... the AF has no problem punishing for stuff that you haven't been convicted of in civil court.
  20. Subordinate CCs can always be more restrictive - in whatever previous year was the "year of the Air Force emphasis on family", at least 6-9 dudes in AFCENT probably got Art. 15s for visiting their wives.
  21. In addition. going door-to-door turned into police entering everyone's houses as well - exigent circumstances/hot pursuit works with a suspect in a known building, etc, but does it become unreasonable to enter every building in a 20 block radius?
  22. I'm guessing you don't have a lot of >6 foot (sts) guys either.
  23. In civilian courts, can't trial judges set aside a guilty verdict if they feel not enough evidence was presented, etc? Not the official appeals court but still an avenue of appeal for the defendant if the case is strong enough.
  24. The "single source" was the agreement between the original 13 colonies (Articles of Confederation) that was then amended into the Constitution thereby producing a legitimate federal government instead of 13. Just like the ATO, if it doesn't fit with your idea of the changing times or the boatload of data, submit a change request instead of just setting it aside.
  25. There was a gear down C-17?
