He's not a troll. His opinion is exactly that of many senior leaders I've met. I'm actually glad he's posting so people can see the kind of mentally retarded logic prevalent in the senior ranks. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this guy was an 05 or 06 stuffed away somewhere in HQ. it's important to understand where he is coming from, not because I care what they tell me to wear or any of these queep issues he's addressing, but because this same logic is used against operators on actual missions. When I see guys frustrated that senior leaders are exerting micro control over tactical weaponeering solutions and preventing best results due entirely to their own personal incompetence and ignoranceI say "decide now if you can stomach this bullshit for more than your commitment, because they don't even trust you to dress yourself in your own free time." Case in point- this asshole. Personally, i still think the service is worth putting up with these types. I love my job and think its worthy of my best effort. Plus I get to be around, for the most part, some really great people. But I frequently see good guys frustrated by leaders who are just as blatantly idiotic as this one.

He wasn't " selected or non selected based on merit.". He was selected or non selected based on his records, just like the rest of us. Difference is his records were incomplete, he was too new to the AF to know how to correct it himself, and his leadership failed to ensure his job titles, etc. were correctly input. So I'd say he has a decent case for an appeal, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try, and your advice is terrible.

I used to send one member of my crew to get his signed, then photocopy for everyone. Then I figured out I could sign them all myself and no one was the wiser. Finally I learned that if I turn it in blank, they still let me on the rotator; so I've pretty much achieved enlightenment WRT out processing checklists. Every emerging community has a few new guys who don't understand their overall place in the puzzle and get a little over motivated. It's fine. I'd always rather deal with the guy who needs to be pulled back a bit than the ones who aren't aggressive, have no pride or mission ownership or care too much about your snickering. Bottom line, young guys proud of what they do and leaning forward frequently make asses of themselves. No big deal. The onus lies on older IP's to temper that passion with maturity and grow a seasoned force, something the U28's are actually doing very well right now.

One thing stood out in the trailer though, the part where the retired flag is talking about how scared people are in the crew bus enroute to a mission. WTF? Does that seem odd to anyone else? If I saw a dude nervously looking at pictures of his wife before we flew in combat I'd have him stay on the ground.

I think you guys are losing the forest through the trees. Grossman an is an engaging speaker with relevant ideas who has helped people. He has at least 2 excellent & thought provoking books to his name. If you're missing his overall point because you disagree with the way he's phrased his opening salvo, that's valid feedback, but relatively minor and certainly tangential.

Police shot a total of 16 rounds (neither officer "emptied his clip"). I can't even comprehend the level of douche bag it takes for a guy totally read in on Tier 1 programs to get out of AD & write a book detailing any part of those programs without allowing your former boss (SOCOM) to have a look first. Writing a book about yourself is corny enough, this just adds a potentially criminal breach of current TTPs on top, with some broken trust between your former comrades/commanders mixed in for good measure. My take (taking the news story at face value & assuming there aren't other machinations at work): this guy is a dick.

I have high praise for the SCAR 16 and have been told the 17 surpasses in quality. Truly innovative design. That said, I don't have a high round count so I can't speak to how the stock will be 3 k rounds from now. I don't care for the trigger and I wish aftermarket AR grips installed. I just put a MIAD on my LMT, it makes a difference to me. I also don't really care about the folding option, just not something I can see myself ever caring about. Neither do I really need the cheek riser, although it works better than I'd expected. Bottom line, amazing weapon with some things I don't need but were well executed. I made a mistake several years ago purchasing a Robinson XCR because i was sold by the description on the Internet & I was reluctant to make a similar mistake with the FN. not the case here at all, this weapon is GTG. The 17 is getting better reports from gov users, although I've not even handled one myself.

I got a CFII & MEI through the mil comp as a multi-engine IP. When I became a single engine IP I got my CFI added when I renewed my ticket & didn't have to pay extra or take any additional tests. Lesson learned though: I had a multi engine commercial ticket & the FAA returned my paperwork; make sure you get single engine commercial added before you apply for the CFI. Same FSDO re-did mine for free. FWIW, I recommend you use the money from TA for an ATP instead of CFI, I think it's more useful. Just my .02, good luck.

Interesting work, thanks for collecting and posting. That said, that AF will survive. They'll simply upgrade more people who aren't ready and magically replace the EPs who leave. And those new people will mostly do fine. And everything will continue on.
