  1. I figured by the circle jerk comment you were talking about AF leadership.
  2. It's totally cool. This guy could kill you with a spoon. Glad he isn't on here. Cheers!
  3. I knew this old, crusty, Marine Fighter Pilot who told the officers in his squadron: "You can make a Marine choose between his family and the Corps only so many times before the Corps eventually loses out." He told me that while him and his wife were trying to adopt their child that he deployed his @ss off, volunteering for every single exercise and "cruise" he could, because the way the state law was written at the time, he had to stay in the country from the time they got the approval till they actually picked up the kid from the foster home. When all this was going on they wanted to send him on a cruise which would have meant they would have lost their only chance to have a child. When he went in to his squadron commander to tell him that he was willing to resign his commission to be a father, his squadron commander actually took care of him and set him up for a later deployment.
  4. I don't care who you are, that's funny right thar!
  5. I am just so glad that we sent so many dudes straight from T-38s into "overmanned" heavies over the past 3 years. Not to mention pulling fully qualified dudes straight out of fighter cockpits to send them to Creech. A retarded monkey could fix the Air Force, unfortunately we are out of retarded monkeys and we are left with these idiots at the controls.
  6. Yeah, had the same problem with the search. I agree with the maybe not being the most cost efficient way of doing things, however I am just unsure of how long this good deal of the GI bill will last, especially with how expensive it has to be. Call me paranoid. I also have no plans on staying all the way to 10 years. After hearing some projections from AFPC and several General briefings, it seems like there are going to be plenty of opportunities to get out through VSPs and RIFs in the near future. I would be floored to have 26 months of eligibility to pass on (if it's still around and I stomach out 10 years) and a 737 type rating to make me competitive for civilian employment. Thanks for the input! It contradicts the GI bill website, but that's good news!
  7. I am trying to pool some knowledge and experience from people who have info on the Post 9-11 GI Bill, because it seems like most base education offices are completely useless with some of the features the bill provides (i.e. Flight Training). I spent 2 hours on the phone with the VA trying to figure out some of the math with respect to transfering benefits to the wife/kids and when exactly the eligibility starts. This link (http://gibill.va.gov/apply-for-benefits/road-map/2-collect-your-information.html) states that "Payback time for ROTC or Service Academy does not count as qualifying service." So does this mean that to get to be able to transfer 100% of my eligibility to my kids I need to A) pay off my 4 year service commitment to ROTC, B) spend 6 additional years in, and then C) sign up for another 4 years? 14 years of service? Am I figuring this right? I also was looking at getting my 737 type rating through Higher Power Aviation, which costs around 10 months of eligibility according to HPA. Looking at the Post 9-11 benefit tiers, it looks like after 90 aggregate days of service you can get 40% of eligibility which is 14+ months of the 36 total months. So am I right to assume since I have more than 4 years (ROTC payback) and 90 days of service in, I could go ahead and accomplish this? I appreciate all the help with this. I know others have been looking for this info as well, so as soon as I get any more info I will post back.
  8. A lot of people in my class struggled through ASBC. It is hard to take a test that you didn't study for when you are completely hungover.
  9. Wrong. Everyone is a weapon, therefore SOS is weapons training!
  10. Excessive blinking is a sign of lying... just saying.

Dude, I totally wouldn't worry about it. If this is the worst thing you do as a 2nd Lt, you are doing pretty darn good. Most gate guards probably laughed to themselves a little and realized you had spent all of 2 weeks in the blue. The kid was taking advantage of that fact in a way. Things wouldn't have gone down that way with a Marine Colonel or Captain. Hope that helps.

Yeah, that was a big change for me growing up in a Marine Corps family. My dad still doesn't salute unless he is in uniform / outside / cover on (or some combination of the above). The first couple times I went through the gate I didn't salute back either but just said thank you so much SSgt, have a great day! Then I realized that everyone in the Air Force salutes regardless of in uniform, when going through the gate.

  14. I cannot comment on her, but in my experience we need less of the non-essentials deploying as it is. Too many bored Chiefs out here already minding their time by being the uniform police. Nothing like being told you need to shave after spending 12-14 hours doing your "primary duties" including flying. Thanks Chief...
  15. Dude that shit was funny. Maybe instead of people getting all butthurt, they should take it as constructive criticism and fix the problems, seeing as they are saying we are going to be there "forever".

It will be interesting to see if Blues Monday is gone after Schwartz is gone.
  17. But SOS teaches us that a culture of too much compliance is the pathway to unethical behaviors? How can this happen?
  18. Everyone in the Air Force are pilots. I read it on the internets. I am more concerned about them not in their PT gear and wearing reflective belts. That is just unacceptable. Find the nearest Chief so he can earn his pay!!!
  19. We had our first child less than a month till pilot training (ENJJPT too). It was definitely not planned that way. The best advice that I can give is sit down with your wife and let her know that she will basically be a single mom during the weeks and during some of the weekend. Also since the week can be pretty exhausting, let her know that you won't be able to wake up during the weekend nights to deal with the baby. As long as both of you have a realistic view of what life is going to be like during that year, you should be able to make it. Nothing will screw you up or piss you off more than sleepless nights with both your kid and your wife crying (been there). In my personal experience, my daughter and wife were amazing. It was almost like the baby knew that I needed sleep and study time. My wife was super quick with the baby monitor and I always had the rest I needed for the long days. My son on the other hand was an absolute nightmare. He is a light sleeper, cries often and keeps both my wife and I up during the night. I guess the bottom line is having a baby during/before pilot training is the easy part. Depending on what your kid's personality is after you bring him home can be the game changer. If you have questions, PM me and I can do my best to give you a straightforward answer.
  20. I have never been upset for someone pointing out one of my many uniform infractions (sleeves up or sunglasses on head). I had a E-8 respectfully say to me "uh, Sir, I don't think that is authorized, I don't care, but I would hate for you to get called out by someone who does." He did it privately and I actually fixed it out of respect for him. Two weeks prior: some female E-7 yells from about 15 feet away that I need to roll my sleeves down while I am in a group of other officers and enlisted. Did I do it? Nope, I completely ignored the b*tch and still to this day I wear my sleeves up in honor of her. Its all in the approach.
  21. Whether you think he is a sucky quarterback or a decent running back or you have always hated UF and the Gators, I really don't see how anyone can dislike Tim Tebow. I mean I hate the Gatorade(?) commercial where he says: "They said I could never be a..." and I also cringed a little while he was boohooing on the sidelines in Florida, but I still respect the guy. Now that he is no longer a Gator, I have no problems rooting for him to be successful. I hate professional football, yet I have actually turned on the TV to watch Tebow play for the past couple weeks.
  22. Never thought I would say this because he was a UF grad (sorry M2) but Go Tebow!
  23. Rainman... wow. Internet @$$ kissing aside, my respect for you just skyrocketed...
