Everything old is new again...I went through the NIFT (navigator initial flight training) at a local flight school back in '05. My understanding of the difference between IFT and IFS was that IFT was designed to give you some small amount of flight experience and familiarity with aviation, while IFS was a screening program designed to identify and eliminate candidates who were likely to fail out of UPT/UNT before they cost the military too much money and time.

So...any word on if that CSO bonus will be expanded to 12Bs any time soon?

Assuming you have any control over when you PCS. I PCS'd right before the majors board...no DP. I knew I wasn't a shiny penny, but I didn't think I was in the bottom 25% of my year group. Well, at least I got promoted...so that's something. Plenty of room for the crusty old majors, twice passed over, teaching the new guys how to fly the jet at the FTU, I guess. Or, if even half the folks who got DPs and school slots who talk about getting out actually do it, the pool will be much shallower for my O-5 board.

Fight in court...based on what, exactly? Last time I checked, stop loss was completely legal. Just ask all the poor bastards in the Army who were stop lossed to serve another tour in Afghanistan and/or Iraq. My understanding is that the biggest hurdle is capacity for training. It doesn't help that much if you have 100 guys cross-flowed, but can only train 10 at a time (numbers are completely made up).

Not the program, overall. The idea that we are short on rated bodies...so short we're extending the bonus for some to 9 years...and then we vector them into jobs that can be done by any officer.

I had thought this was already the case. One does wonder if it will lead to more false reporting in order to escape punishment for things like underage drinking, drug use, or other infractions. On the other hand, I definitely would prefer we let people off the hook for relatively minor infractions in order to catch sexual predators. I'm open to suggestions on how to walk that line without creating an incentive for false reporting.

Probably because it's tough to imagine how a rudder issue would cause the transponder to fail, dropping the plane from civilian radar systems. I think that's where the electrical story comes in.

Apparently they landed fine. Malfunction forced them to power down all the electronics. No transponder = disappear from commercial radar.

Limited strikes, no boots on the ground. Or something.

That is a bonus. Fingers crossed it doesn't make SAPR training twice as long.
