Gen Welsh - USAF Chief of Staff
His speeches are great, Gen Welsh is an inspiring and engaging man. I seriously hope he can do some good. Blues Mondays is a small point and not the best to use as an example, but he could have started the ball rolling to kill it in half the time he took to throw down the gauntlet for mustache March. My point was that if he desired big changes in a big bureaucracy like the AF, he should have kicked in the door with a knife in his teeth on day one. Spending a year with mock promotion boards in an effort to build some kind on consensus instead of ordering common sense changes ASAP just pissed away a chunk of his tenure. If he can still fix the big rocks like AAD/PME/evals/promotions and make them stick after he leaves, that would be terrific. Still, I'd gladly wager with anyone that new lieutenants will still be slaving on their BS Touro masters in 5 yrs.

Gen Welsh - USAF Chief of Staff
Welsh entered the job riding high on our expectations, but he lost the momentum. This shit sounds like a campaign speech. If there wasn't the will to ruthlessly kill something as dumb as Blues Mondays, how is he going to change something as entrenched as PME/AAD/promotions/evals without seriously shaking things up and setting disincentives for those who stray from his vision? A speech and a policy letter aren't going to do it.

Mario, I'll check with the ISR. How did you get changed to a 1:1 after the fact? I still have a 3:1. When I was looking at promotion issues, I came across AFI 36-2504 para 6.4. Can't copy and paste elegantly on my cell, but it discusses promotions on the active duty list transferring to the reserve list and who to contact. ETA: I think the above AFI is for the reserves. If you are off to the guard, I don't know if it applies.

You do realize that your constant CSPAN tl;dr spam is pretty annoying, right?

What's wrong with the Air Force?
For at least six months after you show up to your first squadron, think about what you are going to say, say it to yourself, then shut the fack up.

Once deferred. As a technique to hasten your departure from AD, I don't recommend it.

He is still a goober, but PYB uploaded PSDM 13-130 over at his wannabe BODN if you haven't seen it yet. https://www.wantscheck.com/portals/0/PSDM%2013-130%20-%20FY14%20Officer%20RIF-VSP%20-%20Updated%2024%20Dec.pdf

It was probably a bronze star for dropping 5 bombs out of a B-1. Ask him, he will tell you all about it.

China creates new air defense zone in East China Sea
I don't want to get the thread too far off track, but I don't think competition for oil resources with China/India will be as mitigated as you think. We export distillate fuel oil to the tune of ~1 million barrels per day, but that is more a function of having a large refining capacity and not an excess of oil production domestically. I would venture that most of the distillate fuel oil is heavier heating oil, and not diesel, either. We end up with more refined fuel products than we need domestically, but we still import ~1/3 of our oil requirements. The CNBC article CH posted reminds us we still import 8 mbpd. Are there another 8 Bakkens sitting around the US, just waiting to go into production to meet our current energy needs? Fracking has bought us a spike in production for sure, but even the best-producing fracked wells' production falls off 50+%/yr. Like CH mentioned, China is throwing money around securing long-term contracts for resources all over the place. I have a feeling they are way ahead of us on this front while we are jerking ourselves off talking about how we will be the next Saudi Arabia.

Wait, wut? The USA imports 6+ million barrels per day. Importing 1/3 of our daily oil needs hardly qualifies as self-sufficient.

I wonder if Major General Maggie Woodward has her old name tag from Del Rio that said "Helen Bed" on display at her new office as SAPR chief?

More SARC briefings soon.
I thought maybe he had a stroke and the USO was hiring special people in the same way the AF hires convicts and blind people around base. Then the internet brought me to this article: **NSFW** https://www.tmrzoo.co...stern-show-pics He is crazy like a fox.

I generally appreciate what these guys are doing. Open carry creates a stir and these guys are helping to get the word out that guns aren't illegal or the devil. I hope someone in Arkansas without a TS clearance on the line will press-to-test soon now that the state has gone Constitutional Carry.
