So we're going off what 'could' happen...got it. But if a person, dressed up looking like a police officer, knocks on your door and asks to come inside and ask you a few questions...what is the difference about a stranger wearing shorts and a T-shirt knocking on our door and asking you the same thing? He's not 'ordering you to do anything' and he's not identifying himself as Officer X from Y police department...you're just assuming he is, based off of his appearance. Same with people dressing up as a military officer. If you're legally allowed to dress up as an O-6 at an airshow and walk around asking people to do X (without identifying yourself), what is different from the scenario I provided above? Somewhat gets into the discusion of when the border patrol asks you questions at a checkpoint 50 miles into the US--you don't have to answer anything or give them permission to search your vehicle, though you can voluntarily allow them to do all day long if they only ask. If people ate stupid enough to believe everything they see (not even hear) then the joke is on them.

I'm pretty sure you're also not legally allowed to 'impersonate' (not just dress up as one) a military officer either...or am I wrong? So if you're allowed to dress up like a military officer (or NCO?) and walk around leading people to believe you are something that you are not, what's wrong with someone doing it as a police officer? You're just dressed up a certain way--people are just 'mistaking' you as something you are not, perhaps you're never calling yourself a police officer. That's why I asked where do we draw the line. It's somewhat of a philoshical discussion, as the laws are what they are.
-
Just to engage in the debate--does this mean someone should be able to dress up as a local police officer and knock on people's door and ask questions, tell people they can not do X on the street, etc? There's nothing illegal about a person in civilian clothes doing those things, however, dressing up as a local police officer may cause people to act a little differently, to say the least. I'm just curious where the line is drawn, if there is a line at all?

So because I don't approve of person X breaking the law when they illegally cross the border, then I must have a problem (or as you say, 'discomfort') because of the pure fact that they're from a different country? Have you worked with people from different countries? I know many of my fellow aircrew have, but since you're not aircrew I'm not sure...sorry, I digress. Well, if you haven't that's ok, but I have--and it was truly an awesome experience (every time, and I have done this on many different levels and occasions). So what's this thing about xenophobia? Do I have a fear of people coming here illegally (or legally forbthat matter) and getting on the government dole (becoming more of a taker than a maker) and contributing to the shitty situation of our welfare state? Yes, that does frighten me, because there has to eventually be a breaking point, and if there wasn't going to ever be one, then we could all go on welfare and live like kings. As I have said, end the welfare state, and I'll be all about open immigration...as long as they're documented like rest of us. So no, I dont have a fear of people from other countries, just like the other personal attributes you mentioned (race, creed, gender, sexuality) don't give me any concern either. But it's cool man...keep using your 'metaphors', they're quite enlightening. The fellow aircrew on here appreciate the non-aircrew guys (like yourself) trying to impress us.

We shoud start wearing disguises...

I say good for him, and I like to watch/DVR Stossel ('The Independents' on FBN is even better, and entertaining). I'm assuming it's cool with big blue, that or he just doesn't care anymore? I didn't agree with everything he has said (on here and other places) but I give the guy a lot of credit for standing up and taking the heat that comes with it. Most of us (whether in the military or not, and myself included) rarely take a stand on issues we feel strongly about, but he has done it, whether you agree with him on the issue/how he took it on, or not. It's easy to demonize the people that put themlseves out there, and again, that's because they're doing what the rest of us won't do. Could the guy have been less of an ass on here at times, yeah, most definitely, though I can say that about a few others on here, too. Maybe he learned a little in how to be better/more persuasive with his arguments.

Says the guy who brings the 'racism' card into the discussion...that has nothing to do with race.

I think it's because you like being around the company of pilots...don't worry about it, I was once the same way. Before I was a pilot, I looked up to and wanted to be in the company of military pilots. By the way, any pilot or flying questions you may have, just ask away!! You're welcome!!

AF Crimes has been putting out some pretty dumb shit lately...lately equates to several years.

Mexican Military incursion(s) into the United States

Yeah, but you sourced foxnews, and they're racist...which now makes you and your post, racist. But seriously, I'd be cool with taking the Israeli approach on our southern border to fight the cartels. My minefield philosophy still works for me as well. -
Another Malaysian 777 Crash (assuming the first one did crash)

She's an idiot...watch some of her other videos. -
No helo love? Definitely agree with the last one.

Well, the border length is what the border length is, sorry. Again, you can always mine it on our side and then have a chain link fence 100 feet past the mine field, and still have the typical border crossing points. The problem with your suggestion is that you can't effectively screen for criminals and infected people if those people do not have to use the border checkpoints. You still have to have a strong/reasonable system to funnel the people to the checkpoints, especially if they're concerned they may be denied entry due to medical/criminal issues.
-
"Help our own"?? What does that mean? Here's my other question for you: If we were to have open immigration, ie anybody can come here (which I agree as long as there aren't excessive medical/criminal issues and we end all forms of welfare)...do you see that there should be any restrictions on medical screening? What about criminal screening (if it's even possible), or is it just come and go as you please, don't need to check in with anyone, etc? Also, with no fences/walls on the border, what keeps terrorists from walking across the border in the middle of nowhere with RPG's as easy as me walking through the woods and crossing the State line between Minnesota and North Dakota? Will a wall/security system stop all terrorists? No, but I'm sure it would help to a certain degree. In the past you enjoyed pointing out Israel as the example in terms of homosexuals openly serving and recently with the Bergdahl swap...but for some reason you stop using them as the example when it comes to border security? You've been all over the map lately. But as usual, I'm willing to somewhat give you the benefit of the doubt.

If this is true (probably is), then I think we need to give M2 a lot of alcohol and also make sure he doesn't go postal. Kind of surprised this didn't happen sooner... https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/07/foghorn/breaking-obama-administration-bans-import-izhmash-kalashnikov-saiga-firearms/

Don't you mean this guy?

Stract?

Vertigo, you do better when you stick to a Libertarian philosophy. If you're still for open immigration and zero welfare (especially with money from the federal level) then I'd go ahead and add it your argument...and I would agree. I'm pretty sure you've said this in the past, but it seems to be missing from your back and forth nonsense. Mathematically you can not have a prosperous country with open immigration and a government welfare state. Hell, our welfare state right now isn't treating the country well (besides the fact that I believe it be extremely unConstitutional).

What to do/not do as a new LT (aka how not to be "that LT")
HeloDude replied to Vice's topic in General Discussion
Good thing you asked now, with only a few years left to go you may have run out of time to ask. Relax, dude, you still have a lot of maturing to do, as many people do (myself included, and I have a feeling I'm much, much older). I'm not exactly the same person today as I was a few years ago, and hopefully you weren't either. Focus on just being a good dude, a good enlisted guy/student/cadet, and a good citizen and the rest will start to work itself out when you get closer to commissioning. Then when you get closer you can start asking more serious questions. -
I may have gone over the speed limit to get to grocery store before they were closed...but if they were closed when I arrived I never broke in just because the store didn't meet my level of convenience.

What percentage of illegals are crossing the border in underground tunnels? I don't doubt that people would still try and find a way in, but what percentage of illegals (compared to now) would then cross via tunnels if the border was mined? Or are you saying there wouldn't be a noticeable reduction? Besides, you could have technology where unmanned ground vehicles would patrol the fenceline (in my mine scenario) and can pick up tunnels/tunneling activity...similar technology is already used in oil exportation, etc. As a Liberatarian I'm all for allowing people to go back and forth, but not with the massive welfare system we have now. Either secure the border the best we possibly can, or get rid of all the welfare, min wage laws, public education, etc. I'm a bigger fan of the latter.
-
What about at the border, they build a 10 foot wall 100 feet into the US and then put land mines in between the border and the fence? You can have all the warning signs you want, still have the normal border access/check points, nothing else changes. Would this curb 99% of the illegal border crossings after a year?

Speaking of safes/security, didn't one or two of you guys say a while back that you would be purchasing a 'Sturdy Gun Safe'? If so, how was the process? Safe what you thought it would be? What exactly did you get?
