Is this just like a year ago (in this same thread) where people told me that we were going to see massive changes in China in just a few months?…and I’m still waiting. So when exactly will this massive economic disaster in China actually occur? 3-6 months? 6-12 months? 2-3 years? As for comparing our trade with China to our trade with Russia (pre-sanctions), this isn’t even a comparison. Pulling a Russia on China would royally screw our economy—and no one wants that to happen. If you’re up for some homework, count up how much money you have spent in the last 3 months on products/services which relied on some sort of trade with China.

Well, progressives can’t even define what a women is, so doesn’t this make us all non-XYZ, LGBTQxxxx, etc? What I truly don’t understand is how the left will say they can’t define what a woman is, and just minutes later complain about woman rights?

The country is so divided ideologically that it doesn’t matter how bad Biden and Trump are—the people will vote for the candidate that supports their ideology over someone who doesn’t, especially when the ideologies are so vastly different. At some point we have to have an honest discussion on what still makes us all Americans…because when one half hates the the other half, it doesn’t make much sense to me.

True story: There I was, while on a 365 and on my 4 day R&R at Camp As Sayliyah, I met an Army Captain who had previously separated (and deployed while AD as an infantry officer) and had gotten called back up on IRR to deploy again for 6 months (or a year?). He said he had received a letter telling him to report to X, was being called up to deploy, etc…he said he shows up at place X with a few other guys doing the same thing and the admin person in charge says something to the effect of “wow, this many people actually showed up this time?”. The Captain then later said he was pretty confident had he not showed up, nothing would have happened to him. BL: If you answer the mail (literally) then that’s on you. As a retiree, I’m sure there’s some way/regulation that states they can stop your retirement pay…but, I’d call them on their bluff. We literally have the Reserve component for this exact reason, and last I checked, we’re not at war, much less not being invaded.

They’re not going to deny separations or retirements…but they can’t cut orders, because if they did, you would be able to move your household goods, and they’re saying there isn’t any money for the move. So if you didn’t want to go to war in Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein, were you in the camp of appeasing murderous dictators? Or does this only work certain murderous dictators? I’m not sure how I can be much clearer with my argument, but I’ll try…even though you actually kind of summarized it later in your post? If the mishap rate is nearly the same (if not the same?) for regionals as the legacies over the last 10 years then why pay pilots more on legacies than regionals under the argument of safety? If your argument is that regionals are much riskier wrt safety, then where are all the mishaps? As for you never flying on a regional, that’s impressive as many destinations are only served by regionals. Additionally, if regionals are more dangerous then why would the legacies want to be associated with them?—if an Envoy plane were to God forbid crash tonight, do you think people aren’t going to put any of the blame on AA? They bought the ticket from AA, not Envoy. Good discussion btw—I appreciate it.

Sure, but I never said the risk about anything is zero. I said the rate is extremely close to one another. The risk of a mishap is not zero for regionals and is also not zero for the legacies. However, I would argue the risk over the last 10 years isn’t that far different wrt pilot error causing a mishap (and when I say mishap, I’m referring to something resulting in mass casualties). How many of us don’t fly on regionals because we know the experience of the crew is most likely less than that of a legacy?

This is mostly nonsense when you look at the stats. What’s the mishap rate of airlines on low cost carriers and regionals over the last 10 years?—my guess is it’s extremely close to the legacies. Also, how many times do people fly on a regional when they buy a legacy ticket?—seems pretty often for a sizable portion of the population. If regional pilots are that less safe than legacy pilots then why would legacy airline management want to tie their business to the regionals?

But if it’s rare, then it’s outside the norm and not very relevant to the overall argument. You’ll always be able to find random one offs in just about anything in life. So again, what incentives does management at the legacies have to increase pay since they know they’ll always have a stream of qualified applicants and virtually none of their pilots with any seniority will leave for another carrier?

I guess in the last several years I have yet to hear of a pilot who had more than 1-2 years at a legacy leave to go to another. What kind of numbers are we talking about who would fit that criteria?

If that were the case, all the airlines, including regionals and low car carriers, would pay more/less the same…but they don’t.
