Military retirement under attack
The problem with BAF is the complete incompetence of the approach controllers and lunatic Russians that do whatever the hell they want. The tower guys weren't too bad, but in all honesty I think we'd be better off with a CTAF type procedural approach control.

CV-22 out of UPT?
I had a blast during my six months in ABQ. That said, you definitely need to keep the SA up.

That made me mad, I haven't watched since.

More Uniform Changes!
My simple answer to the no pen tab patches is simple: it's a memorial to a friend who gave his life in defense of our nation. Then walk away.

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
I imagine the second seat in this aircraft/mission would be useful not for the CAS portion, more for the ISR role and the option to attach extra equipment for specific missions. FWIW Rainman I agree a backend that isn't doing what it should is an SA draining monster, however a good backend is magical. In the end, I don't think it's the mission that determines how many crew members are required, it's airframe design and limitations of technology and integration.

Wait, how can it be to the right and in line with the center of the forehead? Am I missing something?

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
Just listening to an A-10 buddy tell me about it was enough to make me jealous. EDIT: It'd bad ass for a CSARTF

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
Who the hell are you gonna BS with in a comm jamming environment? There's more than one reason for radio discipline.

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
The one vs two seat fighter argument always makes me smile. I'd get lonely flying alone, at least without a gunner anyways.

Women involved in SOF on the ground
This is no different than the female Marines providing interaction with female locals in south Afghanistan. These gals are not going to to be in the stack in a DA, nor will they out in the field for days on end in an SR mission. This is really nothing new, its been going on for years. The scale is probably the only new thing. That said, the integration at this level is a good thing, the operators at this level need some continuity as to who those ladies are, so they can train together and get better as a team.

Kirtland AFB info
Dude, Google "furnished apartments Albuquerque" Some furnished place 69 seconds, this place looks like a decent area from what I remember. Anywhere up in the north west part of town (Rio Rancho) is gonna be a pain in the ass for driving; anywhere northeast, while nice is also gonna be a haul and much more expensive. The area around the college is probably your best bet. The thing about ABQ is that there's petty crime all over the place, just stay away from the area right around base. In any event have fun, Knob Hill area is a great time. EDIT: Helodude speaks the truth. Zuni=BAD.

F-15E Down in Libya
Every fighter pilot should read about LtCol Zelko. He is the best example of a survivor affecting his own rescue I have ever heard about in recent time.

F-15E Down in Libya
Agreed Not always Deterrence is only a side benefit of being armed. We're at the point I don't want to go any further on a message board. If you really want to hear my opinion let me know, I'd be happy to talk on NIPR/SIPR.

F-15E Down in Libya
I really wish guys would stop saying that. It's like saying a B-52 is a strategic bomber. Weapons are weapons, they get employed within the ROE. Missions are missions, you don't go executing on something that is not your mission, that's the difference. Our mission is to get an isolated person(s) if we have to employ weapons IAW the ROE to accomplish our mission, we will. EDIT: Sorry, it's a pet peeve.

F-15E Down in Libya
We're kinda busy bro. There just aren't enough CSAR bubbas to go around if you assume that we need to be supporting the Army's CASEVAC mission full time.

Tops in Blue (TIB) - WTF?
I don't know Col Martha McSally from Eve, but "her unit being responsible for securing isolated personnel?" Really?, the JSRC/JPRC is charged with recovering IPs? Sure they help and coordinate, but really? I'm sure the journos trumped up her role as JSRC director, but seriously....

Attn: ALL RotorHeads - 70 Helos at Work Calendars Left to Give Away
Steve, what the hell is a pram? I heard that same term on the Aussie joke christmas song... If I remember right, last time people were being a bit ass-holish (par for the course around here) but really were trying to help. Ned, I guess you feel a bit put off given your otherwise very generous freebie subscription. Fair enough, but people were generally trying to help, pointing out every little flaw in a performance is part of the culture, in the spirit of always improving and all. In any event, hope your magazine is doing well.
