  1. Political compass inop... Yes the Democrats have shifted left, which is what progressives do, and the conservatives traditionally resist change in favor for a more cautious approach. It wasn't until recently the republican platform turned into "undo everything and return it to 1950s america, except the taxes". The republican party used to be respectable. You used to hate the Russians more than the Democrats, you loved the environment so much you created the EPA to protect parks, hunting grounds and our natural resources, you could have a realistic conversation about illegal immigration, background checks, or healthcare...you didn't bend over backwards for the rich and actually tried to balance the budget and be fiscally responsible. Your party is off the rails to the point where you don't even have a stated party platform other than "not obama, and whatever comes out of the orange man's mouth". To think the Republican party shifted left just goes to show how little you have been paying attention to politics during that time. I mean seriously show me a republican platform from the last 30 years that is further right than the current administration. I'm interested to see your well-thought out points.
  2. are you suggesting that if the "kavanaugh debacle" didn't happen republicans would "owe" the democrats or are you just that drunk on your own koolaid? You seem to be fairly solidified in your stance and well versed in the republican talking points. I hate to break it to you, but reading your post you weren't middle of the road, you were just confused brah.
  3. You read CNN for news? Why bother when you can read the complaint yourself? https://projectsouth.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/OIG-ICDC-Complaint-1.pdf No I don't believe in grand conspiracies, but I do believe that administrations set the tone. The overall lack of oversight and apathy towards detainees creates situations like this where the vulnerable are preyed upon, combined with an attitude of silencing whistleblowers and undermining inspectors keeps people silent who would otherwise come forward. Why should someone in rural wyoming have their vote be worth more than someone in california? I think going to popular vote would not be as dramatic as everyone thinks. Republicans still vote more reliably than any other demographic, and suddenly all the (R)s in blue states can have their vote actually count for something. In the end I think it would still be fairly even and democrats would still be fighting to get people to show up. Ranked choice will ultimately cut out the extreme party nominations and you will have better candidates across the board. People will be free to vote for the most far-fetched candidates and not feel like they are throwing their votes away...and at the end of the day the candidate who wins will have been voted into power by the majority of constituents.
  4. Wait...I'm lost...are you arguing for or against me? I'm trying to follow...so our current system was written to favor rich white dudes and was used to exploit disenfranchised populations, and we shouldn't change it because it could be used to exploit more disenfranchised people? Your false equivalency doesn't even make sense. None of what I suggested was in effect back then, yet somehow it's to blame and we shouldn't consider any changes? The utopia you seek doesn't exist. If you clutch your pearls at power being consolidated under a singular authoritarian power then keep your head in the sand. Your government is currently cleansing any investigative or oversight bodies, keeping immigrants in cages and quite literally sterilizing them while none of the checks and balances are checking or balancing, yet you think everything is fine and we don't need to rock the boat...ok sure
  5. If you live in DC or PR, you don't have representation at all. Extensive gerrymandering on both sides undermines proper representation and without an independent body doing districting it will continue to be a problem for everyone. We haven't added house seats since 1911 despite the country growing exponentially. How does one representative actually represent a million people? At what point does this become ridiculous? We have elected multiple presidents who the majority of the populace voted against....aaaaaaand FPTP voting discourages people choosing their preferred representation because they are generally afraid to vote for who they really want and funnels folks into the "republican" or "democrat" buckets for fear of their "team" losing.
  6. The difference between democracy and mob rule is the legality of their actions. Everything I mentioned has a legal and fair process and precedent for doing so. Having a government thats representative of the populace has always been a terrifying thought for the right, but you'll survive. You always do.
  7. Roberts has always been more centrist than the other conservative judges, don't act all shocked like when you suddenly started paying attention you didn't like what you saw. People either have the idea that it should be a balanced court, or it should be full-tilt in their political party. I think Roberts is in the former camp, and you may see him shift even more left to preserve his legacy as chief justice and not seen as the guy who oversaw the hard right turn that will inevitably happen. An olive branch was extended with Garland, but it failed quite spectacularly. I think the gloves should come off and do away with any pretense that the parties can work together. DC and PR statehood, expand the house, expand the supreme court, dissolve the electoral college, ranked choice/instant runoff voting across the board. Fuck em. 🍺
  8. It must be terrifying for you to live in a world where you are under constant attack from such a ruthless and powerful enemy
  9. Doesn't read his daily brief, but has time to watch so much Fox News. Can't say I ever worked for an O6 or above who had as much free time to watch TV as the CINC. Link to the ultra-left website with the story: https://thehill.com/homenews/media/515962-trump-praises-several-fox-news-shows-at-briefing-for-coverage-of-russia-probe
  10. Again...see differentiating entertainment/opinion from real journalism. Who determines what is fact and what isn't? What if two people were at an event, and they have differing opinions of what occurred or was said? How does one report on that?
  11. Americans can't differentiate entertainment from journalism. Also Trump calls anything that isn't state-sponsored propaganda lies, even stuff that is entirely backed up by fact, corroborating evidence, or in some cases even video/photographic evidence. It was literally the firs thing his administration did when he marched Spicer out to complain about crowd sizes, when the truth was evident. You all follow him into the indefensible positions and just attack the source and not the content or facts. Once your base believes your blatant lies, you can then call anything into question. The right want to rail against anonymous sources, while Trump himself is one of the more renowned anonymous sources. He loves to talk to the press, and has been doing it for years and you think he suddenly stops when he gets into the oval office? He loves Haberman and is probably the source for a lot of her "a senior official" stories. It's his thing...he floats ideas out there anonymously...when they flop with his base he calls them lies. What would you do as a reporter when Trump, Kelly, Mattis, Kushner, Pompeo, Barr etc. call you up and give you a story scoop but then tell you to not quote them, but use them as an anonymous source? Literally every one of them do it, because they all have their PFA within the administration and are jockeying for power, and use the press to move the ball behind the scenes. It's an integral part of the process, and yes it is up to the journalist to sift through the drivel, but in the end if the journalist wasn't there they have to rely on their sources and how reputable they are. How do you think journalistic integrity could be fixed in the eyes of the right and there be actual critical reporting of their actions and policy and still be viewed positively? It's entirely not possible...the right is to the point that even Fox News is seen as being too left.
  12. soooo....the majority of the voting populace? Optics are a huge thing during elections, and Trump seems to be determined to win on "hard mode". So many of the verifiably true things are softball pitches he watched fly by that build the overarching narrative that he hates troops. Again it's politics...many of the narratives surrounding Benghazi were devoid of understanding how the military and government works, but that doesn't stop politics from bending the narrative. Overall I don't think he hates us, but I do think he has no concept of understanding of who we are or what we do, and I can entirely see him making these statements and him not seeing them as offensive. If I grew up shitting in gold toilets my entire life I would wonder why people would volunteer to go to third world countries, eating shit food and being shot at for a living. It's not his fault, but he could work a little harder un-entrenching himself from his worldview.
  13. Yeah the timing is politics, and during an election year you can expect many things to come out on both sides during the run-up. You can hate the player, but it's misguided. I don't recall you complaining about the timing of all the stories on Benghazi and Clinton's emails that were older than this story's events, and now after an investigation were directed by trump's people specifically timed w/ russian assets to distract from negative Trump stories. There isn't a statue of limitations on public opinion. Also disagree on your judgement on Kelly. Maybe you are the type to stab your boss in the back while you are working for him, but now that Trump has taken a few swings at Kelly, he might be willing to talk to the press anonymously. Sure it could all be BS, but it wouldn't take but 5 seconds for him to come out and say that....but there has been nothing but silence. Odd isn't it? Why would he hesitate to swat down this story that revolves around him?
  14. "anonymous sources" isn't as nefarious as it sounds, and no credible journalist would risk their career quoting a shady anonymous source. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the process of using anonymous sources. Trump et al like to think anyone and everyone can be an anonymous source for anything, but that's not how it works. Also this administration torpedoes anyone who isn't gushingly supportive of Trump, so it's no wonder they don't raise their hand as all you drones will follow your leader into hating him....see McCain who went from your 2012 2008 presidential hopeful to a "RINO" in a matter of years despite him having little to no shift in ideals or positions. Trump rolled in hot on Kelly during an interview recently, so I think Trump knows it was him, and is annoyed he can't single him out or he verifies the story. If you've been paying attention this is just the latest in a long line of slights towards the military, so it's hardly a surprise to anyone. Democrats don't need to "dig" to find stuff on Trump, shit just floats to the surface. There's always a "greatest hits" list floating around reddit... If even 10% of this is truth, it's reprehensible and you would be howling if the shoe was on the other foot. EDIT: forgot it was 2008, not 2012
  15. I appreciate your unabashed honesty of your ignorance. It's clear you haven't read anything about it and have gone to great lengths to avoid learning anything about the report, and nothing I say with change that. Back to fox news old man.
  16. Other points to ponder...why is Barr's letter on the Russian investigation completely at odds with the bipartisan senate intelligence community report annex that was recently released? Why have all of Trump's 2016 campaign managers been arrested? Why does Trump keep hiring people he later describes as wackos, overrated or "dumb as a rock"?
  17. https://youtu.be/93tV6-0Ugwk The videos are insane. I'm shocked the death count is that low so far considering.
  18. “I would say there is one candidate in this race who has agreed to three debates and that’s Joe Biden. The Trump campaign has actually not agreed yet to participate in the debates set by the presidential debate commission,” https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-campaign-official-trump-debates #fakenews
  19. Well, one of the things that will be really great, you know the word experience is still good. I always say talent is more important than experience. I’ve always said that. But the word experience is a very important word. It’s an — a very important meaning. I never did this before. I never slept over in Washington. I was in Washington, I think, 17 times. All of a sudden, I’m president of the United States. You know the story. I’m riding down Pennsylvania Avenue with our First Lady and I say, ‘This is great. But I didn’t know very many people in Washington. It wasn’t my thing. I was from Manhattan, from New York. Now I know everybody, and I have great people in the administration.” You make some mistakes. Like, you know, an idiot like Bolton. All he wanted to do was drop bombs on everybody. You don’t have to drop bombs on everybody. You don’t have to kill people.
  20. It will be a lot easier to identify and track down voter fraud via physical absentee ballots than it would be on a hackable electronic voting machine with no audit-able paper trail.
  21. I think the CRM is basically a form signed by the commander and submitted up. My old unit used to do a unit-wide submission as a certain point each year since we had to be deployment ready.
  22. The Massif is nice. Great for cold...ok for rain, but if it heavy rain you'll need the goretex.
  23. Had to have lost the lottery during the last Bagrapalooza. I'm sure he earned it, but PA certainly didn't help tell the story and likely is setting him up for a ton of online hate.
  24. I look forward to acting like I know the words and mumbling incoherently in rhythm at the next official event.
