  1. Now Obama is just giving us the middle finger. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/01/17/us/politics/obama-commutes-bulk-of-chelsea-mannings-sentence.html
  2. I hope the AC flew a good approach. Wouldn't want to have to invoke the "7-engine go-around". "Hey crew! Everyone grab a throttle... we need to go missed!" Scary shit.
  3. The pilot of that Luscombe was my good friend. I'd known him 19 years and had flown that Luscombe with him. We took a T-38 to Oshkosh a few years back. Aviation... all facets... was his passion. You always hear about guys that will do anything for you; guys that are always the bright spot in your day; guys with an eternally optimistic attitude. Spanky really was that guy. He was an amazing pilot. And an even better father and person. He always cared about his fellow man. After being a T-38 FAIP, a tour in the B-52, and a staff tour, Spanky applied for the SR-71 in 1997: they were hiring one... only one... pilot that year, from the hundreds of applicants. Spanky beat out everyone and was hired. He showed up at Edwards to start training, but four days later, Pres Clinton killed the SR program. Three days later, Spanky is at Beale to fly the U-2 interview flights. Five days later, he is hired to the U-2 Program and has to get a SecAF waiver for two PCS' in 2 weeks. He became my neighbor on base. When I first met him, I knew he was about 35, but he looked barely 21. I gave him his T-38 checkride on 23 Dec 1997. Friends ever since. He was the deployed U-2 squadron commander in Saudi before the war kicked off in 2003. I replaced him at the end of his tour. He elected not to go the professional pilot route after retirement, but was always super active in GA, EAA, and teaching his kids about aviation. The fact that Tim perished too is just crushing. So very tragic. He was loved by all that ever met him. God bless you, Spanky.
  4. I just saw a segment on The Five about this, and googled it: http://dailycaller.com/2016/12/30/dc...s-racist-pigs/You have GOT to be shitting me. THIS is hanging in the US Capitol??Apparently, the congressman behind this is Lacy Clay: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacy_Clay
  5. Looks like a Rorschach Test to me.
  6. You mean like Iran's deadly Qaher 313? That thing is amazing.

  8. The B-66/A-3 flew until just about 5 years ago with Raytheon. Was at VNY a few years ago on a T-38 cross country and got them to give us a tour. They had a hangar with about 5 airframes in them. Pretty cool.
  9. Well... if Kaepernick is ultimately responsible for the death of Castro because of this, then I'll give him some credit. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3973344/Curse-Kaepernick-Controversial-quarterback-defends-wearing-Fidel-Castro-t-shirt-HOURS-Cuban-leader-s-death-announced.html Maybe Colin can now teach us about Che Guevara's humanitarian brilliance. Moron.
  10. Oddly enough, I just read two days ago that ForeFlight has a logbook. Based on how Tyson Weihs is masterfully reinventing everything related to electronic pilot aids, there is no doubt that if ForeFlight's logbook isn't the best, it will be very shortly.
  11. Sickening if true. However, I am skeptical of the accuracy of their observations.
  12. I attended Mr Hoover's Memorial at Van Nuys airport yesterday. It was an epic event, attended by much of the aviation illuminati. Very well done. Many speakers, but they all limited their time on the mic to about 2-3 minutes. I was particularly impressed by the flyover: 1st pass was a Sabreliner with two Thunderbirds on each wing, and a Canadian Snowbird in the slot. They were tight. 2nd was F-22 with two F-86s on the wing. 3rd was a four-ship of WWII warbirds, including Ole Yeller. I was proud of the AF for making it happen. Sometimes, they get it right and this was one of those times. Brig Gen Jeannie Leavitt was there to represent. I was surprised I saw no Navy presence. It was a tremendous sendoff to a great man.
  13. Why don't you buy advertisement space on this site?
  14. Yes... that would be fun to watch. Like this...
  15. http://ijr.com/2016/11/733056-steven-a-smith-finds-out-kaepernick-didnt-even-vote-his-rant-leaves-nothing-but-scorched-earth-behind/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=owned&utm_campaign=ods&utm_term=ijamerica&utm_content=politics And... the mic drops...
  16. I doubt it. He is concerned about his legacy most of all, and a pardon for HRC will not help that legacy.
  17. To all the celebs who said they'd leave America if Trump won... and especially Ruth Bader Ginsberg who said she would go to New Zealand... please keep your promise. I'll gladly take hard working Latino immigrants and well-vetted Syrian Christians to take your place.
  18. I never flew in the 7+G environment. But with 4000 hours in the T-38, and another 2500 hours in the U-2, I have plenty of time with a helmet on my head. In the T-38, that often meant turning to keep the solo student on my wing in sight. Again... not the 7G environment you guys talk about. But doing what I did with a helmet on for 28 years has taken a toll. I'm sure that if you're in the 7-9G environment, you can probably do a lot more damage in a lot less time. My neck issues are significant. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done some things in the cockpit smarter and differently. Bottom line: do what you believe is necessary to be effective in the cockpit and in your mission. And be aware that the short term benefits may have a long term cost. If you feel those costs are worth it, press on. And remember that winning the battle doesn't mean you've won the war.
  19. I sincerely hope OK ANG doesn't take anyone from the former active duty MC-12 squadrons, and that they re-build it. Sure, there were some quality people in the program. Some really good ones, in fact. But the MC-12 culture was horrendous, and better to miss out on getting some good folks than to bring in any of the virus. Good to see they are going to use CSO's on the crew. The active duty should have done that. FYI: I spent a year in the MC-12.
  20. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/10/27/nfl-ratings-national-anthem-protests-poll/ At least one poll says ratings are down due to public sentiment about the kneeling. But Im sure the American public will forget about it once Kardashian is in the news again.
