Any Bourbon Drinkers?
I was pretty sure Jack and Crown were bourbons technically speaking, but I've been wrong before. Next time I'll do a little research into my booze.

Any Bourbon Drinkers?
Was a big burbon drinker for several years. Crown and Jack mostly (single barrel and silver select), but over the last 3 years or so I've switched to Scotch. Got a bottle of Glenfiddich 30 y/o right now...just looking for an occasion to drink it.

Airshow Conversations
I had a run-in with some of the bird watchers at Moldy Hole. I had to drive by the spot right off of flightline road where they had the scaffolding every day going to/from the non-operational side of the base. I was getting ready to go down range and had my camera with me, so I thought I'd go ahead and take their picture since they felt entitled to take mine (and everyone else's on base). I pulled up to the spot, rolled down my pax side window and snapped the pic. Apparently this upset some of them, as I now have proof that the brits do use the single finger wave as well as the two finger variety.

C-17 Globemaster Q&A
I just want to make sure I'm reading this right. So as a new Co, I have the opportunity to get on more flights if I'm proactive (depending on what else is going on, as you stated)? Any chance they'll try to upgrade me quicker as a late rater?

Tac vs. Strat
Just so you know when I worked maintenance on Hercs, I saw the attitude you described from some of those crews too. It's not exclusive to one community...everybody has their share of a$$holes. [ 04. September 2006, 20:30: Message edited by: zrooster99 ]

Tax free/discounted vehicles overseas
As far as Texas is concerned, it depends on where you go. I tried to register my car in the DFW area when I got it back from England and I got the same story everyone else did (they wanted the full 6.25%), then I tried in San Antonio...same result. Finally I tried down here in beautiful Del Rio and they let me register without paying the tax. I'm not sure how they made it work, I was up-front with all my information.

Classic Thread - Baseops Haters
We definately had quite a few FAIPs in TONEs that taught us Baseops as a resource...I couldn't tell you where else to find TFRs and ASRRs becasue of it.

Ground Combat Badge
The problem is that it's REMFs that de-value these medals and REMFs that decide who gets them.

Executive Officer Job
I'm 1/2 between 5 and 10 and it still sucked. Never underestimate the benefits of "access" to "the man" though. Thus the benefits I alluded to earlier. [ 20. May 2006, 22:52: Message edited by: zrooster99 ]

Executive Officer Job
Yep, getting along with the secretary will help a lot. Is it worth it? I wouldn't voluntarily do it again, but I didn't voluntarily do it the first time either. It's not without it's advantages though.

Taking back the AF
I'll buy that. I'm not sure what your background is, but in my experience the only way to hone your leadership skills is to practice it...daily. ABC, I'm not sure of your background either, or exactly who you mean by "shoe clerks", but as others have said, privatization is one of the things killing our Air Force. In my opinion, the more we try to make it look like a corporation, the more we lose our identity as a military force. What we need to do is to embrace the old school values of discipline, accountability and sacrifice. As leaders we need to set the example and lead from the front (i.e. show your willingness to do those things that you ask of others). In short, go back to the basics. Razorback, I think you have some good thoughts, but I could not agree less that the answer is more careerism... [ 15. May 2006, 22:17: Message edited by: zrooster99 ]

It's probably a little naive, but I'm with Batman on that.

Pilot Bags for T-1

Good military/aviation books
100% agree about "Chickenhawk", and if you like that, check out "Low Level Hell" by Hugh Mills. It's a great book about LOH pilots in Vietnam...those guys were either completely nuts or had huge brass ones.

T-Bird Question
I'm definitely just guessing, but that sounds more likely. I remember when we showed up aerospace phys gave us the same story for the T-6 (that we'd break the fiberglass seat pan), but when we started flying we were told that was bull sh!t and I always stepped on the seat. However different "jet" and different seat.

Great Navy terms
I'll buy that from a Marine, but not from MOST naval dudes... Unless they spent an extended period of time pissing in a hole and burning their own sh!t with diesel fuel I don't want to hear it.

'Recognition' ceremony returns to Air Force Academy
Dude, I'm not perfect either, but you of all people should NOT comment on anyone's spelling. To boil it down for you, it's a combination of beatings 'til you puke, a time for reflection, and what traditions managed to survive umpteen AF Generals who thought they knew better. It's meant to build pride and camaraderie in those that make it through the first year. edit: My bad, withdrawn. [ 15. March 2006, 20:24: Message edited by: zrooster99 ]
