Life at the Academy... https://youtu.be/vO_BfYP6Iv8 It's a lot like the Air Force Academy, except this appeared to be consensual.

Space Attack
No, absolutely not. If DoD had money, space and cyber should both be independent services. The Army and Navy want this to happen already, because they feel the Air Force doesn't use resources effectively. They have been trying to take more of the space game for a while now, and they are both spending a bunch of money creating a space cadre to meet the needs of their services. The same is true to some extent with cyber. Since we don't have money, space and cyber should be separate MAJCOMs. There is a time in the distant future when I could see the US having a space force, a cyber force, a conventional terrestrial force, and a special operations/clandestine terrestrial force. Space Attack
I agree that it's good to have backups, but a lot of this article seemed like a Locata sales pitch. The medium Earth orbit used for PNT satellites is great for being uncrowded, and the direct ascent ASAT threat isn't nearly has high or destructive in MEO. Additionally our new vehicles have safety of life signals on another band just for catastrophic events, because like the article mentioned, the world cannot function without GPS. A lot of people understand the value of the navigation signal, few realize that the timing signal is what basically the entire global economy depends on. Banks, cell towers, SATCOM satellites etc. all run off of the GPS timing signal. Uplink jamming is an option, but that takes a lot of power, and that amount of power can be easily located. Downlink jamming happens all the time. There's not a whole lot the average civilian user can do about that. The space environment threat isn't nearly as bad as the article portrays it to be. It's much more of a concern to LEO satellites. The real threat to all space systems these days is the cyber threat. Even still, it is incredibly unlikely that any organization/nation could affect the constellation to the degree that would cause operational failure. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Getting to Morocco from Spain
I know people who have done it in the past, and the method they used was rental car or bus to the port, ferry to Morocco. It seems like it's a fairly common trip, so the passenger terminal would probably be able to give you up-to-date advice and recommendations. You do need a tourist passport.

Si. Vamos hablar el verbo beber, significa "to drink." Pero, en Spanglish conjugating verbs no es necesario. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Eh? I think you missed the meaning of my post; It was meant as a compliment. It's not too often that you read actual facts on Baseops...

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
Holy shit balls. Dudes are getting paid serious cash money to continue doing what they were going to do anyway and catching shit? Here's my $3.50, take the money. Use some of it to take a trip to Thailand and have the time of your life, you'll have plenty left over. While there, rejoice in the fact that you've got one of the most coveted jobs in the world and that you got paid two Maseratis to keep doing it. Also know that this good deal will absolutely not last forever. It's doubtful there will be another manned fighter, after or before the F-35. And wait until space and cyber guys realize how much money is on the outside and get sick of the Air Force's flight pay and retention bonuses for a job that will have people lining up at the doors without it. Easy call, take the money. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

U-2 Dragonlady info
Awesome video! Is it just me or does it sound like the dude is saying "blame it on my ADP" in that song? That would be a perfect theme song for shitty assignments as well. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Happy 60th, Mighty Herk
My grandfather worked on the fuselage of the first C-130 in Burbank then moved to Marietta when production was transferred where he continued working with C-130s until he retired. My dad joined him at Lockheed in 1980 and works on C-130 support to this day. Naturally, I became a space ops officer... But long live the Herc! It's absolutely one of the best aircraft to ever fly. Apology Letter to Finance
I would advise "your friend" to take some of the advice given in this thread to heart. Despite what many think, finance Airmen don't typically go to work trying to fuck people over. They work with some really crappy systems that frustrate them as much as they frustrate everyone else. There are worthless Airmen out there in every AFSC, but I think you'll find that if you show a little humility, understanding and appreciation, Airmen will usually do whatever they can to help you. That's been my experience anyway. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Best Base in the AF
Schriever is 9 miles from Peterson, doesn't have a commissary or BX, no restaurants, and you have to drive to Peterson for pretty much everything. Schriever is 11, Pete is 28. That makes sense.

Best Base in the AF
That's the dumbest bunch of propaganda I have ever read.

General Lori Robinson
Good question. Welsh is definitely the CSAF, Welch is either the CoSAF or the European Combat Air Command Forces Commander. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

What to do/not do as a new LT (aka how not to be "that LT")
It seems like most of the big stuff has been covered, so something small that will help you in the future is learning the differences in how the services abbreviate rank. It will really matter in a joint environment For example, LT is a Navy O-3 and CAPT is a Navy O-6. In the Air Force, it is Lt (2d or 1st) and Capt. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Travel Advice
My top cities: 1. Bangkok, because Thailand is my favorite country in the world, and everything about Bangkok is a good time .... 5. Bratislava, right on the Danube, cheaper, friendlier, cooler, less trash/drugs/prostitutes/homeless than Prague 6. Munich, beer houses 7. Hong Kong, expensive and crowded, but awesome 8. Salzburg, beautiful everything, and Mozart ETA: Caribbean destinations I feel are a separate category; these are my favorites. 1. Curacao 2. Aruba 3. St. Maarten (Maho beach or airport beach is a must for any aviation enthusiast, plus the bar gives free drinks to topless women) 4. Barbados 5. St Lucia 6. St John 7. St Kitts

WTF? (**NSFW**)
I was unimpressed with her talk at SOS. I've never worked with her and I'm not in ACC or PACAF, so it really doesn't matter to me, but just from a public speaking perspective, I felt she came up short. On the positive side, she did seem like a kind and honest person, which will certainly help. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

What's wrong with the Air Force?
This is something else that is wrong with the Air Force. The fact that all comm was renamed "cyber" and that most "cyber" Airmen have no idea what is actually happening in the cyber ops world. Cyber ops (offensive and defensive network warfare) should be an ops AFSC (17D) and called cyber, because it is an actual domain that is contested and can be used kinetically i.e. "supported." This AFSC should be filled with smart people. Base comm and all of the other comm functions that have zero to do with cyber ops should be a support AFSC (33S) and called comm i.e. "supporting." This AFSC can be stocked with anybody. They also need to move Cyber Command out of AFSPC and make it its own MAJCOM. It is far too important to be a NAF in a MAJCOM that operates in a completely separate domain.
