ATC call sign questions
The Herk world generally goes by an assigned callsign per squadron; 61st is Raven, 5-oh is Bull, 53rd is horse, 62 is jody and the brass get Rock. Not sure about other than Little Rock cheers

Grayout
Hey atleast it wasn't a brown out... All seriousness I had the same issue with the narrowing vision until I found my personal technique for the agsm. but it never got bad enough that I gloc'd. Now all the g's I pull are a whooping ~2 g's in the Herk

Little Rock info
Take the back exit (sts) from the base, turn left onto Hwy 107 which will turn into JFK and keep going until you see one of many $tarbuck$ poping up around town and it'll be in the shopping center across the street. Just finished up with AC School yesterday, lets see if the pain of outprocessing is going to be as bad as I think it will be.

History Friday
Sorry don't mean to "threadjack" back to the original topic but one of my personnal favorites has got to be the P-61... Don't know what it is, I think I have a thing for ugly prop aircraft

C-130 Hercules questions
I haven't seen any Marine Engineers going through the schoolhouse, but yeah pilots/loads are quite common though a little less common now that the J came online.

Pilot additional duties
Alot of the responsibility in the job(s) that you may or may not get depend on whether you're a dirtbag or not. But to answer your question you will have another job or two or three besides just flying (wouldn't that be great though, kind of why I don't mind deploying so much)

Weird jobs you never thought existed..
Not only no but hell no!! Though there seems to be a few non-vols for that type of stuff here recently

Ops and Maintenance officially combine
Like was previously said, it sure would be nice to get rid of the "Late Take off for MX/Ops/etc..." One of my biggest pet peeves is having someone recording the times for when the E's step to the plane, when the O's step to the plane and who's going to eat the late take off. I wasn't around when Ops and Mx separated so maybe some Old Heads could shed some light on this. Cheers

-A pro checkride is accomplished in the simulator? (for CP and AC?) Affirm. Pro checks in the sims for initial qual and AC upgrade. They used to have a "landing check" in the plane. But the last I heard, the sims were upgraded and landings are graded in the sim now. Going through AC School and just had my Landing check in the airplane today... The sim is good enough to take the instrument/non landing part of the checkride but not good enough to land. cheers

Whats the funniest thing you've heard over the radio?
I have heard my fair share of Co-Piglet GT sessions in the Desert that were supposed to be on interphone but transmitted over Ali Center. I can never resist the "Waifer" call just to add a little humiliation... Cheers

Fort Smith conversion
"2" And is the AR Guard taking applications for 130 guys to switch to A-10's? cheers

ROTC to UPT timeline?
I guess I did luck out with the whole timing. I commissioned in 03 and didn't have to wait at all to start UPT. Now the time that I did have to wait was when I went to Corpus Christi for T-44's (which is the way to go by the way). The Navy takes their time in getting you into a class, oh well what can you do to "tradition"? Cheers
-
ROTC to UPT timeline?
From my personal experience I commissioned 10 May and started Ground training up at VN 12 June, though I already had my pilots license so that did away with the whole casual thing.

MLS approach question
Every time I try to fly the damn thing at LRF on a pro sortie I always back it up with the ILS because the damn thing isn't notam'd out but it never works, and the one at DYS did the same thing to me on my Qual Check. Like NDB's I wish they would just go away!!! cheers folks

Spec Ops Herc Tracks
You will do airdrop until you want to

Spec Ops Herc Tracks
"2" Does it mean you're guaranteed a spec ops slot straight out of Corpus, no. But you are guaranteed a Herk, and as long as you aren't a sh!t bag in slicks you've got a pretty good chance of going for that slot you want. But what do I know I'm just a co. cheers

Hooking rides at UPT vs UNT
I would have to agree with everyone so far... Personally Tweets kicked my ass, but I had a good attitude about it and the instructors in my flight helped me out by giving me remedial training, granted it made my life harder than it should have but atleast they took their extra time to help me out. Now when I got to Corpus Christi I had to redeem myself in the instrument phase (all of them) and make up for my poor performance in the 37. just my $.02 cheers

That does happen... We just aren't allowed to log it to stay current.

Ali Al Salem info
"2" Though on the Army Chow hall they were restricting our usage due to the sheer number of people going through there, but if you can go then use it when possible... And if you're into running the perimiter road around the flight line is a nice run at around midnight when the temp gets down to the mid to high 90's... One last thing Drink heavily before you go because you aren't getting any there.

New Uniforms
Last July-Aug time there were some high up people at Alpha Sierra looking at getting those 2 piece flight suits like the gunship guys have and giving it to the aircrew on the slicks at the same base, I left in Sept and haven't heard anything about it since. Not sure it would have been worth it because I sweat no matter what I was wearing over there.
