  1. How quickly are you able to see the images? Are you able to consistently get every single one in 1-2 seconds or do you have to stare and adjust your focal point for a while to get them to pop out? If you can't consistently do them almost instantly, keep practicing. I could never do those as a kid, and the first time I went to MEPS, I couldn't even make it through section A even though I knew there was no way my depth perception could be that horrible. I bought 3 Magic Eye books, downloaded a stereopsis iPhone app, and also looked at every website I could find with stereopsis images. I mainly practiced with such a large sample size to try to reduce the chances of instinctively knowing what focal depth to focus at by becoming super familiar with each image. It took a lot of practice since I couldn't see them at all at first, but I got good enough at the technique to be able to see any image (even new ones) within 2 seconds max. I've taken the test once more at MEPS and again for my flight physical and both times I was able to get through every single row with no problems. So unless you're already absolutely crushing it at the Magic Eye stuff, I'd recommend continuing to practice as much as you can possibly stand and then seeing if you can get them to let you give it another shot. Also, here's another thing that might be worth a try. When I went to an AME for an FAA Class 1 physical, I noticed that the visual acuity test looked like it was on the same kind of machine and I asked if I could practice the depth perception test (even though it's not required for an FAA physical). The AME was happy to let me give it a shot and I think having a no pressure practice run helped a lot to ease my nerves the next two times that I did it for real. So it might be worth getting in touch with some AMEs in your area and asking if they have the machine. If you're worried they'll think you're a douche for wasting their time, you could always offer to pay them for an FAA physical even though you don't need it.
  2. To make things even more confusing, the Doss program is now called IFT (not IFS anymore).
  3. Regarding PCSM and lowering standards, one thing that might be worth mentioning is that the PCSM formula was revised around 2012 or 2013 to weigh flight hours much more heavily. I remember reading about a lot of dudes with 90+ PCSMs and little to no flight time seeing their scores plummet 30+ points once that rolled out. So if you were selected before that, your revised scores actually might be significantly lower now, so it's a murky comparison. That said, those AFROTC select averages are definitely considerably lower than I would have guessed.
  4. Just happened to "find" the footage in question and his Facebook is plastered with drone enthusiast stuff, including selfies taken with his drone. What a coincidence!
  5. The maximum commissioning age for non-rated was recently increased to 39 (commission by 40th birthday) per AFI 36-2005. Find a line officer recruiter and get the show on the road!
  6. The "guys with 19 kids"/BAH-is-welfare angle of the argument seems a bit strange to me since there's only a with-dependents rate and a without-dependents rate, i.e. the dependent rate does not increase based on the actual number of dependents. The extra ~$350 a month will surely get stretched pretty thin once the clown car's on the road.
  7. By TX hill county would that be Kelly as speculated earlier? Randolph? Bergstrom Intl with contracted instruction? Are these students going to drones like the guy on Reddit thought or is this actually a materialization of the "direct to fighters with no college degree and skipping phase 3" thing? I know this is just the initial experimentation phase but I'm curious about what the prospective goal is since it seems like a couple of different things are being discussed.
  8. How did you guys find out about the 93rd FS board, if you don't mind me asking? I didn't find out about it until it was too late. I check Bogidope, GuardReserveJobs, Baseops, and some Facebook groups literally every day so I'm bummed that one slipped under my radar. If there's another source I should be checking, I'd love to know.
  9. I have a 92 Pilot score. My PCSM went from a 67 to a 75 at 12 flight hours after retaking the TBAS. It’s now an 80 with 21 flight hours. My 201+ hour bracket went from 91 to 97.
  10. Thanks for the info! I'll probably PM about that if I happen to get selected by a Guard/Reserve unit.
  11. At the Open House, they said they haven't looked through the packages very closely yet. There will be phone interviews sometime in November and in-person interviews in early December. So I'd expect it to be at least a week or two before anyone hears anything.
  12. Start trying as soon as you're eligible (which will probably be when you have your bachelor's degree, or possibly within 6 months of graduation for some units). There's no reason not to. If you don't get picked up and you keep reapplying as you gain more flight time, it will come across favorably because of your persistence.
  13. Bumping this thread with some stupid questions. Can anyone weigh in on the notion that going the unsponsored route is pretty unlikely to result in getting picked up by a Reserve fighter squadron? I saw a similar claim earlier in this thread but it would be great to hear more opinions/experiences. I'm assuming it would be 100% impossible to go unsponsored and get hired by a Guard unit before Phase 3 of UPT, correct? Once you've commissioned and AFRC owns you, is there no chance in hell of being able to switch over and be gained by the NGB? Is it possible to apply to the unsponsored board if you're an AD OTS applicant/select? I know that applying between different services at the same time isn't possible because only one branch can own your MEPS records at a time. Is it the same deal between Active and Reserve components of the same branch?
  14. I think he's talking about the 125 FS (138 FW) in Tulsa.
  15. Over in the CSO assignments thread the rumor seems to be resurfacing that studs might be dropping Growler EWO tour slots shortly. I guess in theory that would open up the possibility of occasional dual-AF crews flying Navy jets.
  16. Another hotel guest hiding out in their room (lights off) taking a photo of the madness maybe? The iPhone camera has a light sensor and the automatic mode will enable the flash if it's dark enough -- maybe the person didn't realize they hadn't disabled the flash/auto mode (since that would make for useless photo with the flash reflecting off the window). That's the only explanation I can come up with.
  17. I think he was responding to my post. I’m not concerned about the actual FICO score either, but rather the contents of the credit report. I know excessive amounts of debt are something they look at as an indicator of ability to be bribed. So if they deem my level of debt (as of April) as being concerning, I’m curious if they’d be willing to obtain a more recent credit report since it will show the significant progress I’ve made on paying off debt.
  18. Here's a piggyback question related to the credit check. I realize this is so specific that probably no one can answer, but maybe it's worth a shot. Since the investigation pipeline is so backed up right now and investigators may not review background check information for many months after the SF86 is submitted, is it plausible that another credit check could be conducted if something isn't to the investigators' liking and a significant period of time has passed since the initial one? I submitted my SF86 in April, and from what I hear, the investigation process can take a year or more. My main concern is my credit history. I had some delinquencies in the past but they've all been resolved for 4+ years now (all were paid in full and none went to outside collection agencies). However, my overall amount of credit card and personal loan debt is pretty damn high (having an unplanned child was the main culprit). Luckily I've procured a significantly higher paying job recently and I should be able to pay off a very big chunk of that debt before I get to OTS next April. I've heard that some people end up doing interviews with investigators and some don't, so I assume it depends on if there are any specific factors that concern them. If they end up interviewing me a few months down the road because of financial concerns, could I have any luck requesting that they pull another credit report so that I can show proof that I've made huge progress on my debt since the first credit check? Or is the system probably too bogged down for them to bother with the extra work?
  19. Classes are definitely a mix of AD/prior service and civilians (and Guard/Reserve accessions and AD accessions). I'm slated for 18-06 and there's a bunch of AD people on the Facebook group. It's all TFOT now -- there's no more AMS. TFIT (the first week) has been chopped and there's a computer course prerequisite instead now.
  20. Check this out: https://airforcejourney.com/2017/04/30/fy2018-tfot-schedule-unofficial/ Looks like they circumvent the holiday leave issue by not having classes that take place around that time.
  21. With your current scores, I don't see any need to sweat failing the retake. You're 19 percentile points above the Verbal minimum and 50 above the Quantitative minimum. I don't think I've ever read about anyone doing worse on their retake. I don't think you'd necessarily have a better shot at going RPA to Pilot than CSO to Pilot. In either case you would be applying for the Active Duty rated board, which as others have said, is probably the most competitive of all methods. Your AFSC would probably only play into your selection chances if it were critically undermanned.
  22. I just saw an awesome photo pop up on my Facebook feed (from the official ANG page) of a 175W/104FS A-10 taking off from a highway in Estonia as part of a training exercise, and the description says it was on 10 August. So the deployment is probably a good guess as to why there's been no word yet.
  23. PCSM score is calculated solely by AFOQT Pilot score, TBAS performance (you won't see raw scores for that), and flight time.
  24. Looks like it's working fine now. Thank you!
