  1. Interesting, but most definitely a big WTF… Could you imagine being propped up in a ACES II in the squadron bar for your wake? Brew in one hand, a stripper in the other?!? That may not be such a bad idea... Cheers! M2
  2. I invite everyone down to the DUI/DWI capital of the country, San Antonio. Drive around here late any weekend night and chances are one out of very three cars is being driven by someone under the influence. Hell, even the cops get busted driving drunk in this town, in their police cruisers (it happened a few months ago). About a year ago, a drunk driver killed several people in a car when she went the wrong way down a road, and it turned out the driver of the second car was drunk as well! It is not uncommon to see people popped for their second, third or even forth DWI. Hell, my wife sat on a jury for a guy who was on his seventh DUI! Honestly, it's much easier in Europe when you can walk to the pub/gasthaus and back home; but if you get caught behind the wheel with a BAC over the limit, you should spend time in jail, period. Oh, and Rain, I believe RVs are classified as domiciles if they are not on the road, so "sleeping it off" in one is legal as long as it is not on a public road...
  3. It looks like ol Arry is trying to get back into the mix...good on 'im!
  4. Actually, to all of the victims of this tragic event!

OK, I may be the victim of a marketing hook; but I picked up a box of this for the Savage my son and I shot... Hopefully it will perform better than the Winchester .22 we previously tried! Standby for the next range report... Cheers! M2
  6. Mappleby Nice SV! That's a great bike, my neighbor had one and although he was a Vanilla Ice-wannabe; at least he had decent taste in motorcycles...

I've got numerous rounds through my Mossy 500 Persuader and have been very happy with it... I've got a SureFire 6P mounted and a cheap-o BSA laser on top (for shits and grins). My usually loads are 3" Magnum 00-buckshot rounds, perfect for any HD situations but I have stone on the front and sides of my house so I have never worried much about over-penetration. It was never really a big concern in the first place as if there is an intruder in the house I have far greater priorities... Cheers! M2

Saw this on the news and it made my sphincter flinch! Between USC 18 Sec 930 and the policies of risk-adverse, promotion-focused commanders, it is pretty much impossible to find a fair firearm policy at an Air Force Base these days. All this is doing is preventing law-abiding servicemembers from keeping weapons in their cars in states were it is allowed (such as Texas, where a CHL isn't even require to do so). The joke is, nutbags such as Hasan are just going to ignore these "restrictions" before committing their crimes...

Gladly. Although I don’t go there often (maybe 4-5 times a year, if that), almost every time I’ve been I’ve witnessed numerous safety violations. The last time I went, with our Canadian exchange officer, we were checking targets and I turned around to witness some jackass on the line handling his firearm. I yelled at him and he looked at me like I was crazy, but at least he was smart enough to put the pistol down as my next move was going to be to draw mine (I had my XD on me). That same day, while shooting on the 10 yard line, a different idiot walks out at the far end of the pistol range without ever calling the range cold! I had to yell “cease fire, cease fire!” before someone got shot. Also, a gentleman I work with, who is a really nice guy and who buys an annual family pass there, has had three instances where the owner and employees have yelled at him for picking up his own brass (he obviously reloads). For some reason the “management” feels that they own whatever brass hits the ground there, and confronts anyone who tries to collect theirs. Previously I have seen too many gang-banger wannabes at the Bullethole and no attempts to run the range. I’ve seen rapid fire on the pistol range (prohibited) and illegal weapons, and the owner just doesn’t care. The place has gone downhill ever since the original owner passed away, and even members of his immediate family have quit over the way his wife has run the place since he died. There have been instances of people being shot there (one fatally that I know of) and I am just not going to risk my neck or even more so my son’s life to shoot at such a poorly run and unsafe range. As I stated, Blackhawk is less than ten miles south of the Bullethole, only costs $125 a year for an unlimited family membership (half of what the Bullethole charges), and is professionally run. Cheers! M2 This... It was all Walmart had. I am going to try something else... Cheers! M2

My son and I took the new Savage 64FXP .22 rifle out on Saturday. First and foremost, for those in or visiting San Antonio, the Bullethole is off my range list. We experienced yet another care of pure buffoonery there that was the last straw. Instead, we went to Blackhawk Range, less than 10 miles south towards Atascosa, and it was extremely better to shoot there. Go to the Bullethole at your own risk, but my fat self won't be seen there again. Anyhow, the Savage was fun and the Simmons 3-9x40 scope really worked well. About the only problems we had was one shell extractor failure and several failure to feeds. Several rounds were actually bent at the bullet from the bolt trying to load it. I accept blame because the seller told me it was ready to shoot, and I didn't clean it. My mistake. Still, we got the scope dialed in and easily has 2-3" and less groups at 50 yards. Considering this was using a bench but no rests, we were very happy with the results. The entire morning was a blast, and you can't beat a day out with your 12-yr-old son shooting! However, I did get bad news that the Army has prohibited any calibers larger than .223/5.45 at Camp Bullis, so I can no longer take my Mosins, SKS or AKs out there. The gents at Outdoor Rec are trying to get that rule changed back, but for the time being it looks like the 100 yard range at Blackhawk is going to be my rifle range (except for the Savage). We can still shoot pistols at Bullis, but the 300 meter Sportsmans' range will be missed. Oh, and the annual family pass at Blackhawk is half of what it is at the Bullethole, so there's another good reason to pass on that death trap of a range! Cheers! M2

  17. Since I couldn't find that video, no slam for not searching; but it is very old and I believe it has been posted here before. It is also pretty old, as I recall seeing it when I was still in Belgium and I left there in 2005...any of our Rucker brethren know?

T-bonez It was my first 1911, and half of the reason I bought it was because I had just finished watching Saving Private Ryan (again) and this scene always made a strong impression on me... It is a fun, basic 1911 that pays tribute to the pistol that won WWII. I don't think I'd conceal carry it; but I love shooting it. Sure, my more expensive 1911s are more accurate, but this gun pays homage to the history of the 1911 and that was justification enough for me! Of course, like many firearms, sometimes you can't own just one...here's the family photo I love to show! Cheers! M2
  20. That's Margaret Nolan. It's from the movie "Carry On Girls” (1973), one of a “long-running series of low-budget British comedy films, directed by Gerald Thomas and produced by Peter Rogers. They are an energetic mix of parody, farce, slapstick and double entendres.” It was actually her body painted with gold in the titles and advertisements for the Bond flick Goldfinger
  21. The SC2 is currently the same price, uses two CR123 batteries (so obviously it's longer), and goes up to 220 lumens, but I liked the more compact size of the SC1 better. I just wish I had checked Amazon.com first. I paid $49.95 plus tax for mine, but it’s still worth it!
  22. Funny you should ask! I just picked up an iTP SC1 Eluma this weekend at the gun show.... Very small (uses one CR123 battery), brighter than hell (190 lumens at full strength!) and adjustable settings with a strobe. Obviously, I can't attest to its long-term durability; but it is much brighter than the Surefire 6P I’ve been using and a much cleaner light as well (since it’s an LED). But if it lives up to expectations, it’s one helluva great lashlight! Cheers! M2
  23. The current (and longest-serving) governor of Texas is a former C-130 driver (1972-1977)... He is also very pro-gun, and not only signed Castle Doctrine into law, but also expanded the rights to carry. Y'know who I'm voting for!

Picked this Savage 64FXP .22LR up last night for $100, it's for my 12-yr-old son... For a .22 it is actually quite nice. I looked at several at the gun show yesterday and not only was this a much better price, but it felt more like a "real" rifle in comparison. The scope is a POS Simmons 4x15 and made in China, I plan to replace it with something a little less crappy. Otherwise, I picked up 333 rounds of Winchester .22LR for $9.95 at Walmart (the only box they had) and my son is ecstatic about the rifle. He wanted a BB gun but next expected a real rifle. I figured he is less likely to get in trouble with the .22, as it will be locked up with the rest of my arsenal and he won't have access to it unless I am with him. Cheers! M2
