Square In a nutshell, the Mosin-Nagant is a 7.62x54R rifle that was the Russian Army standard for many years and which can be found in numerous configurations and was built many countries. The "standard" Mosin is a 91/30, and should cost about $100 delivered. It is a bolt-action rifle with a five-round fixed magazine, and 440 rounds of ammo can easily be found in spam cans for about that same price. They are solid, heavy rifles that can be very addicting. I got my first about two years ago, and now have over twenty of them. Here's a pic of just a few of them... The carbines are more fun to me, the shorter barrel means nice, huge fireballs; but the SOBs do have a good kick to them so be prepared for a sore shoulder if you shoot a lot of rounds through one. To give you an idea of the characteristics of this great rifle, read this humorous comparison between it, an AK and an AR. It's meant to funny, but there's a lot of truth to it... Oh, and rent the movie Enemy At The Gate; it is standard watching for any Mosin fanatic! Cheers! M2 p.s. Everything you need to know about Mosins can be found at 7.62x54r.net - A Mosin Nagant Reference!

Well, in that's case dependent. If you feel it will be an issue, then leave the firearm at home. If you believe it wouldn't be a problem, then carry and don't mention it. I don't think there is any need for permission, you should know who is so anti-gun that they would be offended by your carrying. A quick story , my German uncle was visiting us here in Texas. We were in Bandera ("The Cowboy Capital of the World") having breakfast when he decided to quite loudly vocalize his anti-gun viewpoints. I told him that wasn't the wisest of ideas, and he simmered down; but I think if he knew I had a .45 tucked into my back he'd probably lecture me about it as well! Cheers! M2

Spudsmac I don't know what state you're in, but here in Texas unless the property owner informs you beforehand that they don't allow you to conceal carry (which normally is in the form of a 30.06 sign), you're good to go. However, if they ask you must respond honestly, at which point all the can do is ask you to leave which you are required to do otherwise it is criminal trespassing with a weapon. So it's pretty much DADT, but be sure to check your state laws to ensure it doesn't state otherwise. Cheers! M2

Brick, great review, thanks! I like the P22, and have contemplated picking it or a Sig Mosquito up one day but I still have several other firearms on my "wish list" to acquired before I do so (such as a Yugo M76 and a PSL). Twenty-twos are fun and inexpensive to shoot, but my lackluster experiences with the GSG-5 I got has made me realize that the round has its drawbacks. Still, for range practice or new shooters, it is a great round. Cheers! M2

The SGL-20? It's fucking awesome! Light, solid, and accurate as well. If you are an AR fan but looking for an AK, this has to be the best build you can get without going to a customer job. I can't believe I got it so cheaply, and the same dealer has been out of these particular ones (mine's a -21, black with the Warsaw-length stock on it. I've also got the -74 style muzzle brake on it, versus the "nut"). All I've been able to find since has been the plum furniture with the NATO stock and muzzle nut (ugh!). If you are looking for a Russian AK (and you should) and are considering one, grab a SGL-20 if you can find one! The SGL-21 is basically the same thing with an additional accessory lug, so if you find one of those than it's just as good! Oh, and I put a Bulgarian sling on it; it's the same design as the Russian but in black nylon... On a different note, if I end up SBR'ing my Draco, I may go this route instead of an underfolder as this is a badass-looking rifle... Cheers! M2

From a local gun auction site... And yes, it was a joke! But you'd be surprise how many people took it seriously! Some of the better comments included... "That was a friends gun (RIP) He said he was going out to try out his new gun, and never came back. To this day we don't know what happen to him." "Gun is real! Designed at Texas A&M" "Guessing a double tap would be tough..." "Great gift idea for ex wives" Cheers! M2

Donkey Google 'cross-hand rifle shooting' and there are good suggestions on what to try...such as: Cross Eye Dominance and AR/Rifle Shooting coping methods The cross-dominant eyes: corrections are easy Good luck, and let us know what works best for ya! Cheers! M2

It looks like the BCS is working fine to me! Auburn moved to No. 1 from No. 2 and Oregon made the opposite move. Auburn will beat South Carolina in the SEC championship, and then the only decision will be to see who will lose to the Tigers in the BCS championship game. TCU, Oregon, it doesn't matter, the outcome will be the same...

It's a shame, but the man did leave a helluva legacy and will be making people laugh for generations... Godspeed, sir, you were one of the best! Cheers! M2

Dude, you've always been disillusional but this one takes the cake! Go back and look at which conference has won the championship for the past four years running...yep, the SEC. And no matter if it's OSU or TCU, whoever goes up against Auburn is going to go home a loser. Bitch all you want, but the SEC produces champions every year, and it's not even the same teams! And I don't understand the hatred for Boise State, it's a great school and has done well playing against decent opponents. Sure, they're not playing the toughest teams in the nation, but they are playing good football against some strong teams. Hell, I wish my alma mater's record was as good as theirs. Plus, as BADFNZ pointed out, they are moving up to a tougher conference instead of dominating the weaker one they're in. I hope they continue to do well, and this hatred is undeserved! Cheers! M2

Normally I'd hook ya as those aren't posters; but they....errr...she looks familiar so ya get a pass on this one. I can't place the....errrr...face (yeah, I know, the fact that she actually has a face will be a shock to some!), what's her name again?

Got this week's AAFES/BX/Exchange flier and noticed an ad that said there was 10% off all Ruger "fire arms" (yep, two words) limited to stock on hand, no special orders and (this is the important bit), carried in the authorized Exchange locations: Barksdale, Davis-Monthan, Dyess, Eglin, Eielson, Ellsworth, Elmendorf, Hill, Holloman, Little Rock, Minot, Nellis, Offutt, Tinker and Whiteman AFBs. It also stated that the following Army posts also carried firearms: Ft Belvoir, Ft Campbell, Ft Drum, Ft Hood, Ft Knox, Ft Leavenworth, Ft Polk, Ft Riley, Ft Rucker, Ft Stewart and Ft Wainwright So, I can confirm that Ft Hood sells guns; but can we get a confirmation for every other location listed above, or add any that may not be included? Cheers! M2

That's sad to hear. Him! Him!

D'oh, here I was thinking you were in SA! Some vendors go to all of the shows, but I think most concentrate on ones closer to where the are; so it's tough to say who will be at the Robstown show. The place I bought three of my 1911s from was AJC Sports in Clute (723 S Main St #A); but that's 3.5 hrs north of you. Heck, it's only 2.5 hrs to SA! But they may be at the Robstown show, Alan usually has a dozen or so tables at the SA SAXET show and does considerable business as he has good prices. That's where I bought my SGL-20 back in July. If there's something specific you are looking for, try contacting the shop beforehand as that is what I did when I was looking for my Springfield Black Stainless Target Loaded a few years back. He just brought it to the show for me to pick up, worked out great. Cheers! M2

Of course it's the fucking French... The flight had left Fes, Morocco three hours late thus was unable to land at its original destination in Beauvais, France, because that airport had closed, so it diverted to Liège, Belgium (which isn't a bad place, it on the Muese River and we used to go there a lot when I was at SHAPE). But instead of taking the buses offered to their destination, which would have taken 3.5 hours, they sat their asses on the plane all night in protest. Dumbfucks. I could imagine the smell was pretty horrible. At least to us civilized folks.

I just realized I haven't dazzle'd y'all with a few pics of my new M72, so to satisfy your needs for Yugoslav gun porn... And for those who enjoy something shorter in their porn (?), here's my Draco with the paracord sling mod and a Chinese AK sling on it... It works quite nice, actually! We took both out on Saturday, talk about two completely different experiences! The M72 was a hammer, I could only imaging what it would be like shooting one on full auto. Absolute destruction. The Draco was über badass, spitting fireballs out its short muzzle. Not very accurate at any range, but sure to get anyone on the business end digging into the dirt as it flung 7.62x39 their way! How this thing can qualify as a pistol is beyond me, there is absolutely no way to shoot it using just the grip and the thing just screams "SBR me!" Overall, I am extremely happy with both. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying either as their first AK; but once you start collecting them (and after you've bought at least one Russian-made one), they need to be one your short list. Next is either a M76 (expensive) or a PSL modified with better furniture (the original stock is way too short). I'm in no rush for either, as this is the time of year my gun buying goes into hibernation for the holidays. But I'm OK with that, as these last two acquisitions have ended the year on a high note, and on that bombshell... Cheers! M2

Czech There is a SAXET show this weekend (20-21 Nov) but it is up in Austin (Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Ln, Austin, Tx. 78724, map; doors open at 0900) and the next San Antonio show won't be until 3-4 Dec (San Antonio Event Center, 8111 Meadow Leaf [Marbach & 410], San Antonio, TX, 78227, map). There are some deals at the shows but don't expect that many. I like going just so I can see how certain guns feel in my hand, etc before buying. I do buy at the shows, and have a few vendors I frequent (General Firearms, Chernushin Enterprices, and AJC Sports); the first two are more C&R guns but have some AKs and such; AJC sports has new guns and great prices, but do volume sales). If you want an AR, I can hook ya up with a custom builder I know who will build you a better gun for about the same price. You might also want to swing by The Powderhorn just south of the SA Event Center on 410, they have probably the best prices of any gun shops in town and a decent selection. The folks that work there are pretty nice as well. Academy Sports isn't bad, and sometimes Dick's or Sports Authority aren't bad. As for getting a better deal through GunBroker, Bud's, J&G, etc; you might but once you factor in shipping, FFL transfer fees, etc you might be able to find something at a show or shop at about the same price. You really have to shop around, and check out TexasGunTrader.com as well. I hope that helps, and welcome back! Cheers! M2

No, the 411 FTS lost one with a Lockheed pilot in it back in March of 2009 in the Mojave Desert. The first production loss was during takeoff at Nellis on 20 Dec 2004, with the pilot ejecting safely prior to impact. And then there was this YF-22 which crashed while landing at Edwards in April 1992... I hope this turns out well, but it ain't looking good... Cheers! M2

Well, ol' Rocky might be in SA town in the near future and we may just have to see firsthand if he's as good as he's sayin'! I for one would be pretty damned impressed if he could hit a target of that size from that distance; but I am still skeptical until I actually see it. I know guys who have been on both Army and Air Force shooting teams and will ask them about whenever the contracting office gets their shit together and I can get back to work! Cheers! M2

200 yds one-handed with a 1911? I'd have to see that to believe it, and right now I'm not believing it... By the way, I moved your thread into this one. I hope you shoot better than you search! Cheers! M2

There's nothing wrong with .40, it's the caliber of choice for many law enforcement agencies across the country and is easily and cheaply found. However, some feel it is a "compromise" round that resulted from the 10mm being too "hot" for us. I don't own one simply because I try to stick with pistol calibers that I already have (.45 and 9mm, for the most part). For that price, most likely they were WASR-10s (the skeleton is a Dragunov stock, more commonly found on PSL and other DMRs). There are more things to worry about than just a canted sight, some experience mag wobble because they are imported as "sporters" (single stack, 10-round AKs) and converted by Century. Some have also been known to Once these rifles arrive from Romania, they are disassembled and the magazine wells are machined out to accept double-stack magazines, and the requisite number of U.S.-made parts are installed for 922r compliance (usually trigger, hammer, disconnector, compensator, gas piston and pistol grip). I think Century also threads the muzzles and welds on and machines new bayonet lugs. The problem is that Century doesn't have the best reputation for its builds. Someone posted this pic on a gun forum as an example of their smithing capabilities... But that's not to say that there aren't some good WASRs out there. Some have been lucky to get well-built ones from Century, but most have their local smith or someone with AK knowledge work them over to produce a fine-shooting rifle. Remember these are AKs, so they'll always work; but some just work better than others! If you can save the money, I would hold off and buy an Arsenal Saiga like the SGL-20 I picked up back in July. That thing is the best AK (and the closest thing to a true Russian AK-103, sans the folding stock) you can get these days without going to a builder and paying big bucks! Cheers! M2

Busdriver That's a decent price on the XD. It is an XD, and not an XDM, right? Still, $450 out the door would be tough to beat; but what caliber is it? And yes, Century AKs suffer from canted front sights. Not all of them, but my Yugo M70AB2 did and I sent it back to be fixed. Which AK is it? Cheers! M2
