Disenrollment from AFROTC: Appeals
I agree your Det dropped the ball by not informing HQ AFROTC of your extra year, but don'tcha think that given the fact that you've failed to pass three classes might be a contributing factor in your needing the extra time to graduate? And don't get too comfortable with these Mulligans once you get on active duty. Hell, in today's world I am surprised you've been able to stay in the program with those strikes. The USAF is looking for ways to cut numbers across the board, and you're just giving them reasons to target you when you get a conditional. I wish you all the luck, but you are somewhat responsible for your situation and it doesn't take too much these days to find yourself out on the street.

Disenrollment from AFROTC: Appeals
Ummmm....I understand your Det may have dorked the 22 package; but WTF is this all about? This was your third conditional due to grades? It's been a long time since I was in AFROTC, but even back in the old days this would have put you on very thin ice. If I'm not mistaken, conditionals are still given when your GPS drops below 2.5, right? One would be somewhat understandable, two a little tougher to explain, but three? Good luck with your effort to get reinstated, but don't go telling one that your cadre made all the mistakes when you've got three conditionals!

Gun Talk
HeloDude 18 USC 922r is a pain in the ass to comprehend, but this guy probably explains it best at a caveman level. Basically, if you make any modification to the original form of the rifle or shotgun brought into the country, it has to be 922-compliant. Those features added that are generally considered to be changing the weapon are: - High capacity (greater than 10 round for rifles, 5 rounds for shotgun) magazines - Pistol grip attachment - Folding buttstock - Muzzle device/attachment (to include a threaded barrel capable of receiving a device) - Bayonet lugs As stated in that link, if your rifle or shotgun incorporates those features, it no longer is considered "suitable for sporting purposes." So under the letter of the law, such simple "modifications" as using a 10-shell magazine changes your "sporterized" Saiga shotgun into a nasty "modified" one, and you then have to replace parts until you are assured it has no more than 10 of imported parts on it. And be careful, because not all aftermarket parts for Saigas are made in the US! To remain in compliance of 922r, the number of foreign parts must be 10 or less! Now, whether the BATF will arrest you at the range for shooting a 10-shell magazine in your Saiga shotgun is debatable. I honestly can't recall anyone ever being prosecuted for having a non-922r compliant firearm, or the BATF inspecting weapons at a gun range; but there is always the chance and especially so if you later try to sell it. Best to be safe for the time being and just use the 5-round mag until such a time that you can replace parts to make it 922r compliant! But that's my knowledge of the law, and I am not a lawyer nor do I profess to being one on TV. The bottom line is that it's your call... Cheers! M2

Sorry dude, that's classified information! Nice! Is the Saiga stock or has it been converted? Either way, those are getting tough to find, so snagging one is a good score! Yep, it's a great country we live in (well, most of it!). Cheers! M2

I would not let my life depend on a Kel-Tec! Anyhow, in better news, guess what arrived today? And just for shits and giggles, here's a 7.62x39 AK round next to the 8mm Mauser the above M76 uses... Cheers! M2

J&G finally got these back in stock, so I got a wild hair and ordered one. I've been wanting a Yugo Zastava M76 DMR for a while now, and since they've gotten pretty scarce I thought I'd jump on this opportunity before it too disappeared... Should be here in about a week... Don't take this personally, but I don't think a MA in Int'l Relations from OU is going to "wow" anyone more than a degree in a similar field of study from a "diploma factory." Unless you have one in engineering from an Ivy League school, there really isn't that much of a distinction. I've got one from a "brick and mortar" school and another from a virtual one, and in my experience both have garnered the same response from my resume. Obviously there are true "diploma factories" (such as Rushmore University in the Cayman Islands. The state of Oregon has a good list here, scroll down a bit on that page); but too often people think that all online programs are "diploma factories" which couldn't be farther from the truth. If anything, my second grad degree probably has been more beneficial in my post-military career than the first one!- WTF? (**NSFW**)
- Web Sites For Selling A House Near Military Installations
I am trying to put together a list for an acquaintance who is selling their house near Randolph due to a job relocation. They wanted to know if there are any web sites specifically targeting military personnel looking to buy a home. I've heard of Military Homes For Sale and Military By Owner, but after that point I am out of Schlitz. Can anyone suggest any others? By the way, I've got no gouge on this particular home; but if anyone is interested I can get some contact info for ya! Thanks! M2- Preparing a House for Deployments / Trips
Great advice that only fails when the power goes out in your house for an extended period of time during a hard freeze. Happened to us in Germany and we not only had numerous pipes explode but the entire heating system was TU'd when we returned. Landlord tried to blame us stating we turned the heat off, but his father (who installed the system) said it has a fail safe that prevented that from happening. He also lived in the same village (the landlord had moved away) and knew about the extended power outage. Landlord had to make extensive repairs on his own pfennig... - Stealth Helo in Bin Laden Raid ?
