  1. Dave Devine added yet another satisfied customer to his list. Bought our first home at 3.75%-30 year fixed VA loan, and could have closed in just a couple weeks, if it wasn't for the sellers. I went to the NBoKC website and filled out an interest application late one night, and Dave got back to me early the next morning, with my VA certificate of eligibility already in hand. I was incredibly impressed with his work ethic and dedication, and his willingness to help out at any time of day. He actually was the one who caught something in one of the sellers' counter-offers that would have cost us a pretty decent amount of money if it hadn't been fixed. I'm pretty sure that falls under the job description of our real estate agent, but Dave busted out the calculator and went to work for me anyway. Good guy, and I would highly recommend him and NBoKC to anyone on the board.
  2. Thanks for all that, I really appreciate it. I kind of felt like that $30-40k range was what I could expect/hope for if working/flying my butt off, and a deployment may be imminent for me as well. I have a full-time civ gig waiting for me too, but it's a solid 1.5 hour drive from my unit, so I'm torn about how to handle that as a new guy coming back. I don't want to burn a good job with benefits, but I also don't want to be the guy min-running the unit from the beginning, not getting better at flying, and not getting face time around the squadron. If I was single it would be a no-brainer, but, with the family, guaranteed money is hard to give up.
  3. Looks like it's been right at two years... Anyone able to give a re-hack on the "bummability" of the 130-side of the Guard? I'll be home and spun-up off seasoning days by December, so I'm trying to get an idea of what a 1Lt can reasonably expect in an average monthly take-home pay situation. Currently debating the whole "bum vs. civ job option", but my real desire is to bum. Just a little worried about the feasibility of supporting a wife and kid on bum pay...
  4. Yeah, a couple years later, but same problem... When I log-out the "Change Theme" link shows up at the bottom of the page, but as soon as I log-in on the desktop, it disappears, so I can't change it back. Any way you could hook me up?
  5. Me too... But you get over the stench of the Crypt Keeper pretty quickly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Dude, you're from KY... Go 130's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I don't laugh out loud from posts on here, but I did for that one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. No problem, man, I know that feeling, but thanks for the response and info. I pulled the trigger and bought one, even though the new Fenix2 was just announced yesterday. The Fenix will have quite a few more capabilities than the Tactix, but they're pretty much all geared at Triathletes and Open Water swimming stuff, which I have pretty much zero use for... Then there's the fact that the new Fenix doesn't come out until March at the earliest, the backlight is not safe for NVG's like the Tactix's is (plus it's red, which I hate), and it doesn't have the skydiving feature. Last, but not least, if you give HeartRateWatchCompany a call, they'll give you a code for a 10% off Military Discount... that applies to all their products, not just the Tactix. I actually spoke to the owner, Rusty; he's a great guy, and hooked me up with Free 2-Day shipping and some other free add-ons as well, so I ended-up saving about $60 altogether. They have several other watch brands and products, so figured I'd throw that out there if anyone else is interested. The number is (866)586-7129.... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Sounds about right for the AF... I do agree it's generally just better to go by the rules, no matter how inconvenient sometimes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Better to ask forgiveness?... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. This was my method... Life's boring if you never roll the dice. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. He has the D2 then, specifically built-in with the aviation details. I guess the Tactix would fall in the same category though, since it can send/receive data wirelessly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. What is it that makes you not able to take it into a secure location, just the GPS function? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Anyone, Snuggie in particular, have an updated review on the Garmin Tactix? I'm seriously considering it, but looking for some insight on its operational functionality... All the reviews I've seen online are from runner-types, not military folks or aviators.
  15. Not that it really matters, but didn't the 29B take the place of the 4392? Maybe that's what Day Man meant... I remember the form number changing toward the beginning of UPT, because all the class commanders sent out new templates for 29B's to the students to take the place of the old form. Pretty sure it 4392. I think the idea was that the 4392 was "suggested", but the 29B became "mandatory" for AETC students, regardless of age. Mark that under, "Who Gives a Shit".
  16. I'm so glad I revived this thread... these have been some fantastic ideas.
  17. Now that I have some more time to read again, I just spent three hours going through this thread looking to bolster my "Will Read" list. Some really great selections on here. I'll add "The Good Soldiers" by David Finkel, a Pulitzer winning author. The best book I've read of its kind, and I maintain one of the best books I've read, period. http://www.amazon.com/Good-Soldiers-David-Finkel/dp/0312430027
  18. I agree... May have to try that one out as well.
  19. Got it... I might feel it out back home, and see if anyone else is interested in having it around. Spearhead that shit... HU&W, that's a nice-looking machine. I may just have to go in that direction, because my experience last night with the stove was not an enjoyable or fruitful one.
  20. Follow-up question: I know the jalapeƱo corn is more of a fighter squadron tradition, but are there heavy units out there that cook it up as well?
  21. Holy shit... Ron Swanson would approve.
  22. Four Lions: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/four_lions/ It's on Netflix and Hoopla. Thought it was darkly hilarious and poignant. One of the better movies I've seen this year, although not a serious venture in context. Really good
  23. "If my calculations are correct, this will create ice... OH NO, KILLER MUSTARD GAS!" Agreed
