MC-12 Liberty info
Yes, note 1 on table 1.1 of 36-2107 is weird. 1.c. implies that crossflow incurs the full ADSC. I stand corrected.

MC-12 Liberty info
Any ADSC for MC-12 can't go beyond your UPT ADSC, assuming you have time left on that. You would still incur an ADSC for the CONUS CONUS PCS though (2 years I think). If your UPT ADSC is complete then you'll be stuck with a full MC-12 ADSC.

Leadership at the 'Deid
Maybe they should consider reducing the person to toilet ratio to somewhere below 1:100 in CC. Seriously, that place is nasty.

Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Q&A
The information from the TSP website describes the Roth TSP option as Roth 401(k), which means I can continue to max out my Roth IRA ($5,000/year) and still contribute to the Roth TSP as long as my Roth TSP + Traditional TSP contributions do not exceed $17,000/year, correct? Also, if one is deployed for the entire year, and therefore has no taxable income, there is no benefit to Traditional TSP contributions, right? In this case would the Roth TSP be the better option?

Shoe Clerk Vol 3
That's pretty good. It does show attention to detail when they do stuff like that. The thing that throws me off is when the Wg/CC is at the gate checking IDs...don't forget to salute first in that situation....

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
Pre-9/11 Bush policy (edit to add: the Bush policy I voted for) was not post-9/11 Bush policy (edit to add: the Bush policy I voted against). Something about 3,000 US KIA on US soil changed his mind. I'm no fan of how far off course we got (Iraq), but 9/11 was a game changer for the decade. As soon as someone in Syria can raise an army with potential to topple Assad I think the US will invest more clandestine involvement.

We've spent the past 10 years doing this. Time to move on.

Shoe Clerk Vol 3
The funny thing about the phone is that while they can ignore it when they wish, if they're talking to you in person they will rarely let it go more than one ring. Nobody likes a ringing phone, and they'll cut you off to let that phone call first in line.

"Fortunately I walked into the room and got a round of applause." I would love to read his SERE debrief. Good on both of them for returning safely!

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
Yeah, it helps keep the 50 year old yoke funk to a minimum. An EFB probably isn't a great solution in fighter and tactical environments and my guess is that most in those communities would rather stick to paper pubs for the reasons you list. I see the EFB as more of an AMC solution.

SOS/ACSC information
SOS horror stories abound, and are true no doubt. The DGs in my flight were an F-15 pilot (good dude) and a TPS penguin (engineer type and great dudette). Our flight decided early on to not sweat the small stuff, do our best, and let come what may. We had BBQs, took a trip to a Braves game, and generally just had a good time. It was amazing to see the hard-charging flight of in-their-own-mind SOS DGs implode at the end of the 5 weeks, while our flight of easy-going, get-along types excelled. We didn't win all the competitions, and we got stuck with the "run 3 miles" activity on warrior day (because we were too lazy to figure out how to do something funner...like play flickerball...ha!). It doesn't have to be doom. You may be saddled with douche bags in your flight, but you'll also have a chance to expand your network outside your MDS. That said, when I went through it was 3 weeks of work/briefings crammed into 5 weeks of training. I mentally checked out after week 3. I can't imagine how more time in the program will make it better. It will be interesting to get post-mission debriefs from the guys going to the new program. I'm just lucky I didn't have to fall on my sword and turn down a DG :)

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
Are these to be given to the Afghan Air Force or retained by the U.S. Air Force?

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
Something like that. Our OGV puts together a FLIP booklet with all local IFR approaches printed from NGA in one file. Keeps the FLIP volume for the home station in usable condition longer and gives you something less cumbersome to throw on the kneeboard.
