  1. If everyone but you has missed the point, I think a different point has been made that you’re missing.
  2. CSAF cares about people I’m sure. The bureaucracy he manages doesn’t though.
  3. No bureaucracy cares about any person. People care about people on a personal level. Above that you’re just a number and it’s just business. It’s like this everywhere.
  4. What? Are you trying to kill yourself? 😂
  5. I imagine that many of the civilian employees in the base are retirees. Plus, you know, the commissary.
  6. What does "toxic work" environment even mean? He yelled at people?
  7. When they come for the military pension we’ll have bigger problems I think.
  8. That’s actually a nice looking uniform. Is it worn with the blue flight cap or something else?
  9. Well, in my slice of America, Lowe's and Ace are the two options, and I can tell you that the folk at Ace are just as clueless as the fine folks at Lowe's. And Ace doesn't give me 10% off.
  10. This is best understood in the context that the 75% promote rate overall really breaks down to DP = 99% promote and P = 50% promote. If you are a P then you have a little less than a 50/50 shot at promotion. In the P category it really is hard to understand why one gets passed over while another gets promoted. I was a “super P” at the Wing level and the Wing Exec who had a straight P was passed over. Our Wing had 4 eligible. Two DPs promoted. Two Ps were 50/50. We had similar records. Hard to distinguish between our records. It’s a mystery. Of course, he’s flying for Delta now so it’s debateable that he’s the one who lost out.
  11. They look the same but you don’t blouse the pants (the Army helo pilots do tho). They have zippers on the chest and pants instead of Velcro closures.
  12. That’s good because they really kind of sucked when I flew “slick” 208s with them in 2012-2013. I can’t imagine shooting guns from that thing.
  13. I’d be cool with the OCP two-piece. It’s pretty comfortable and not as heavy as the bag. I don’t look forward to breaking in a new set of coyote tan boots tho.
  14. And Afghans at the controls?
  15. What the heck is an AC-208?
  16. Depends on the Airline, no?
  17. You serious Clark?
  18. IPZ for O-5? DG will carry weight. “Definitely promote” in the push line without a DP checked means P. Not as good as “if I had one more DP to give...” and probably means bottom 50% of promotable officers in your Wing.
  19. Generally for O-5: IPZ w/DP = 100% promote. IPZ w/P = 50% promote. IPZ w/super P (If I had one more DP to give...) = Most likely promote. Maybe 75% chance?
  20. I had returned from my 365 a year before and was in a pretty good assignment when I decided to sign the 5 year bonus. The next year the 20 YAS bonus was offered to MAF pilots and they allowed my year group to sign the longer bonus. Since I had decided to stay to 20 anyway I decided to go ahead and add the four more years of bonus payments. The AF didn’t have to allow my group to take the added bonus. I was pleasantly surprised when they offered it. I’ve had a good career except for the year of my life wasted in Afghanistan. I’ve flown in every assignment. Not a school select. Made O-5. Of course, all my friends are flying for airlines now and I’d also like to be done with military service but I’m getting close and am most likely in my final assignment. Flying is good. I’ll have to suck up a Group or Wing staff job soon, but such is life. I took the path of least resistance staying in and signing the bonus. I didn’t want to start a job search and grow up quite yet. It worked for me. The AF is dumb sometimes, but usually it’s not as bad as the board makes it seem. I’ve paid my dues TDY and deployed like all of you, but my life has also gotten better as time has gone on. I understand everyone is different and has different experiences though. And that’s fine.
  21. I stayed. I don’t like Kool Aid. I have a family.
  22. Exactly. I wish airlines would charge for overhead bins and make a checked bag free. Some of these carry ons are insane. I agree with the point of the OP. But I also do not mind my 10% off at Lowe’s. It’s a cognitive dissonance I live with.
  23. “Unnatural acts” 😂
  24. Fear. There are probably one third the number of 365 advisor positions now than when I went in 2012 but the fear of a 365 is easily three times higher among people who most likely will never experience a 365. It’s irrational and I don’t understand it.
