  1. Damn! I grew up watching the MI ANG fly F-4s out of Selfridge. They have painted a tanker like they did their F-4s. One of them is full color and the other seven are subduded. The paint job goes back to the F-106 days. Pretty bad-ass.
  2. They have a robust time-share program. I spent some time talking to the Cirrus guys at Oshkosh in 2006. If you buy a 1/5th time-share you could get a SR-20 to an airport nearest you within 72-96 hours fully fueled and ready to go. Not sure if the program has changed, but that's better odds than the two FBO's I flew out of back then in regards to quality aircraft availability. AFAIK it was pretty reasonably priced as well. While I still prefer a PA-28-180, the SR-20 was pretty impressive.
  3. As with anything AF the rule of threes apply. The Mighty Stratobladder has three things in common with the E-3/E-8/707...1) They are Boeing, 2) They have the same yoke and 3) They have the same sliding window. Any tanker driver that says he files a 707 should be throat-punched. Plus, the -80 and -135 kicked off the 707. /rant off
  4. Just add it as a remark in the MAF Fuel Tracker and you'll be good.
  5. What is heritage? I thought as Airmen we had to be innovative and think outside the container. Am I not correct?
  6. HATRs in the AOR result from people not understanding what the hell is going on.
  7. The Pinks & Greens was probably one of the best uniforms worn by any US Armed Service.
  8. Which was essentially what we wore once we became a separate service. Man, the mid-1990s was rough on the USAF.
  9. WTFO! Are you fvcking kidding me?
  10. If your jet never flies VFR because of X,Y, or Z there is a little blurb that says you can do it for training. Flying on an IFR flight plan is easy when it is a vectored departure to jet-routes to vectors ILS. That can get pretty old. There's no harm in going VFR, and it is a great training tool and is a lot more fun than having ATC do the work for you. Plus, we all learned this shit way back in UPT. It wasn't that difficult then and it isn't that difficult now. EDIT: Spelling
  11. Rainman is right, this isn't the place. I do agree with Prozac that mission planning could be more robust in the event that one of the fighters has issues. I hope any aircrew that does a CORONET gets briefed on what happened after all the dust has settled. Either way, glad the pilot is safe.
  12. It is nice to help out the little companies right up to when they go under and with them so does the source code. Next thing you know, there are a bunch of EFBs turned into paperweights and no paper FLIP to replace them.
  13. There are a lot of clueless people out there that can't even remember who we fought for American Independence way back when.
  14. M2, My Suunto Vector is going on three years now. It has been on numerous deployments, drunken TDYs, and through bonfires gone wrong. The negative face takes some getting used to, but it is a solid watch and is still on the original battery. It is much better than the Casio Pathfinder I wore before it, and would recommend the Suunto to anyone.
  15. Will it save money? Yes. But, there are other areas we could have cut such as TIB or the Do Something Amazing Commercials. I think a Viper or A-10 demo is more inspiring than see than TIB at the Deid. EDIT: Spelling
  16. Of all of the jets I've refueled the BUFF is one of my favorites. Last fall I was in a four-ship of -135s refueling a four-ship of BUFFs. If that wasn't cool enough, there was a four-ship of tankers and BUFFs ahead of us and a four-ship of tankers and BUFFs behind us. It was pretty bad ass to have 24 jets going through the same airspace in about a two hour time span. The airliners were asking about all the TCAS hits so center started vectoring them over to watch. It is flights like that where you forget about OPRs, SOS, and all of the other crap at the office.
  17. Those are some shit hot photos of some Michigan A-10s! We all better treasure those photos before they start going away.
  18. Actually, the first few will be really, really expensive. But rest easy, they get cheaper with each copy. Hell, the last iPad they buy might have only cost them $250 or so.
