  1. They turn you into a missileer in which you spend the remainder of your ADSC telling everyone you didn't want to be a pilot anyways. And even though you think flying is lame, you could have flown fighters if you wanted to.

  2. There'll be a lot of dated info around here, but in general it depends on the circumstances of how you depart UPT. If you DOR (request your way out) you likely have a better chance of getting the job you want vs if you get washed out. I've known guys who DOR'd, got washed out, and even dudes that got FEB'd later in their careers and departed the flying world. Some became JAGs, missileers, and acquisitions officers. I would not go into UPT focused on what happens if you fail. If you genuinely don't like it, then you can quit and the world won't come to and end. If you try and hedge by quitting before you get washed out...well...don't do that. You won't be in a good position to judge just how well or poorly you're doing. Hang tough on this topic for a week or two and let those who are currently IPs in the training system chime in. They have busy lives and can't always get to the page immediately, but they will show up.

  3. Seems like a reasonable question. If anyone is familiar with today's personnel procedures, why not give him an informed and courteous answer?

  4. I went through the fixed wing course right out of basic training. FW class 69-23 (1969) Ft Wolters for a month, then on to Ft Stewart (GA) for 4 months, and finally Ft Rucker for the last 4 months. We had no air-conditioning although a giant swamp cooler was installed at the multi-story housing unit at Stewart, it was never turned on, even in August. I purchased a 6000btu 110v industrial air conditioner before heading to Nam. I lined my hooch with Styrofoam from rocket boxes and sealed the walls with purloined plywood. I had air-conditioning in Nam!

  5. Podcast? Hard no. A video diary, that you might or might not edit/cut/splice and selectively release long after you've reached some level of success? ...still probably no, but maybe this over the podcast idea.

  6. It really depends on the needs of the AF. Most dudes get a new AFSC (job) and finish out whatever commitment is left from your commissioning source. You won't incur the UPT ADSC unless you get your wings.

  10. But seriously, congrats on that much land. Good luck with the communists in charge of the state.

  11. To be clear, T-38 studs can still faip to a T-6 and then get a fighter. At least as of a few months ago.

  12. I wasn’t referring to just the BBB, I’m speaking generally about avoiding the fiscal cliff - the answer is not more taxes, it’s stop spending ludicrous amounts of money on dumb shit. Though I’m glad to hear you say you’re down with cutting entitlements (e.g. where the vast majority of “the dumb shit” resides). The point I made above, and am making now, is large cuts in entitlements is the only answer that moves the needle enough. Until we do that, everything else is par for the course noise, including this bill.

  13. The rest of the flybys have already been covered. But your answer right here demonstrates the D’s base misunderstanding of finances. “But more taxes will fix it!” and never “hey we should stop spending like drunken sailors buying absolutely stupid shit.” Until you guys can understand basic finances my children understand, this is a useless discussion.
