That sucks, but I think the family of the veteran in the casket would trade you any day of the week. If that soldier can't buck-up, and perform under temporary personal discomfort, she needs to move into another line of work. Voluntary or otherwise. My opinion of your posts is that you handled mostly veterans from WWII, Korea, etc. Nothing from the OEF/OIF. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'll second Fuzz's experience (or any AMC aircrew). Standing in formation at the ramp of a C-17 watching a 4yo son cry for his Dad, not understanding why he can't see his father, and being consoled by his grandparents because his mom is sobbing, being physically held up by another family member...its gut wrenching. Then having to do it ll over 5min later for the second casket, only this time it's his mother. She has her arms outstretched, calling her son's name and his is being restrained by family to keep her from running into the flight line. Those memories are three years old, and some of my last in AMC. To this day it makes want to do two things; 1) hug my kids and never let them go and 2) deliver instant, explosive justice on terrorist shitheads. I'm generally all about arguing both sides, but you've picked the wrong horse to back and need to let it go.

Thanks to b1bhandler and others for your comments and they are most appreciated. As a member of the MARS phone patch net and seeing the recent comments, I thought I would provide some accurate information on the current net. We are members of the Air Force MARS program. Sprint used to provide phone cards but has pretty much quit them and as the current ones run out many are not renewed. However, the majority of the stations have unlimited nationwide calling and one or two have international calling capabilities. DSN is always available. We are not supposed to mention frequencies, but since they are already posted on here 13927.0 is the primary frequency and 7633.5 is secondary. Many of the stations monitor both these frequencies at the same time. First call should be on the primary and then try secondary if no one responds. If it is felt that better communication can be accomplished on one of the other frequencies then the operator will request you move but normally the 4, 11, 20 and 27 are not regularly monitored. Solo T-38 ride at SPS rocketed out of the top of the airspace by 6-9k feet, turned off mode C over the top. Note at ops desk upon return to go see ADO. "Why do you think you're in my office?" "Because Ft Worth center called you?" "No, it was because you knocked me over as I was preflighting the jet next to you when you got stuck in the turn out of chocks and damn near went mil power to get going again. And then your crew chief called to let us know you left your probe heat on at shutdown and he burned his hand. Now, why would center be calling me?"

And senior officers wonder why many in the ranks don't believe in what AF management has to say. I was taught as young instructor that I had to establish credibility...I don't see much credibility with this issue.

I'm not saying he's wrong, I just find being lectured-to about ethics by a career politician to be ironic. I also find it ironic that the author believes that the military is losing the trust of the American people. In my experience, it is me who no longer trusts the American people (voters who pay nothing in terms of sacrifice to have the military they want) to chose politicians who will exercise some restraint and judgement when they send a nation to war. Years upon years of deployments has me a little cynical I suppose. To call the problem systemic labels everyone as liars and cheaters. That is simply not the case.

There is NO integrity left in this system. None. It's gone.

Just received an e-mail from AFPC confirming that my VSP application had been denied due to remaining ADSC. Filing my complaint with the IG tomorrow and possibly writing my Congressman a letter. AFPC = the biggest bunch of ass clowns in the Air Force.

We are still doing the force-shaping, right? I can't remember with all the retractions and re-releases of announcements.Some of these leaders might be ripe for a SERB. Or at that level, would it just be an SRB?

Man, I'd love to get any kind of email, or any kind of leadership at least telling me they've asked the questions and still don't have answers. Right now it's just eerily silent. I don't think I'd even know they were planning a RIF were it not for the one ADO who asked for a draft of my RRF.

A few years ago they invented this thing called a carry-on bag. It is a small bag you actually carry on the airplane with you (weird, I know). Well, in this bag you can put clothes; those clothes can then later be used to change into while you wait for your checked baggage. It also comes in handy if you crash or divert. ADDED: I also put food, smokes, and road beers in the carry-on.

I'm sure we joked about it amongst ourselves, but thankfully we never had a global audience for our conversations like this young woman has... Social media is dangerous shit. Especially for someone too young and inexperienced to know when to hold back the thoughts they might share with close friends. As anyone watching GWB's old speeches will notice, it's easy to find flaws when everything a person says is recorded, and the context is easily missed. Was it stupid for her to write what she did? Yeah. But you were children once, too. That's what kids do. It's called "growing up."
