I am wondering which would most of the folks here rather have: a great unit and mission in a less than cool spot like Cannon, or what they think is a less than cool mission in a great spot? Would it matter if you had a family? Just sort of curious.

Is there any truth to the statement that "UPT classes early in the fiscal year get drops with more fighter slots than classes toward the end of the fiscal year." Many people seem to think this, so I'm curious about the validity. Did some searching, but couldn't come up with any answers. Any info would be appreciated.

Does anyone know when the last fighter or bomber pilot was killed by enemy fire? Yes I've used the search function and google.

Since a lot of you have "been there done that" I could use some advice or words of encouragement on UPT. I've only been going for a few months now and it's a lot different than what I expected. I thought I could handle stress, and flying planes, but this is a whole different ball of wax. Basically, I suck flying and I'm probably the worst in academics. However, I'm not ever going to give up and I'll take it one day at a time. Just wanted to know if anyone else could relate to what I'm going through and if you had any ideas on what I could do in order not to get so down on myself.

Nope, I'm not asking about sex-parties at Little Rock... Just wondering if anybody had further info on a rumor: Apparently, there was a recent incident, resulting in significant aircraft damage, for which I hear one of our previous students was responsible. The individual just barely passed here at Corpus. Wanted to fish for more info ("unnofficial" can sometimes be the best) before I bring it up in a meeting. [ 28. I was talking to somebody today about a funny video clip I saw on a website like ebaum's world or something and he asked if we could get in trouble for looking at that kinda stuff while in the VOQ's....is that the case? Would I get in trouble for going to a website like break.com or ebaum's world while here at Maxwell? I understand that if on a work computer you're not supposed to do that, but what about the computer in you own room? I know it's a bit off topic, but I wanted to show him some funny video clips and I didn't wanna get in trouble for something silly like that. [ 02. July 2006, 09:56: Message edited by: Toro ]

This weekend in preparation for an upcoming PCS I was cleaning out an old hard-drive so I can get rid of the old computer its in. I ran across some very funny posts I saved from over at the old studentpilot.net (circa 2001) of a dude who was flaming me for the UPT journal I used to host at www.militarypilot.net Thought you guys might like to read 'em and get a laugh from them, too. Pretty cool, eh? Apparently I'm the laughing stock of the Strike Eagle community as well as just being a "pilot who flies fighters". Smokin'. Here's more: Coool....so I'm apparently a SNAP, too. Read on: Right again, dude. Ready for the punchline? The guy who wr…

I know that getting selected to Phase I is tough and Phase II is even harder to pass. But does anyone have any more info on these guys? I'v been to specialtactics.com. How often are they getting deployed? Are the Combat Controllers deployed with the Army and Navy? Thanks for the help. [ 22. June 2006, 17:34: Message edited by: ralph ]

Hey everyone, I am going to be starting up an AeroClub at my school this year and I was wondering if any/all of you have any experience with them. I know a lot of bases have GA clubs and I have been looking for ideas. We don't have the funding to go out and buy a plane, so it will be more along the lines of aerospace lessons, model stuff, base/ramp visits, and free ground school taught by a volunteer instructor. We have the sponsorship of the AFROTC det. and their simulator. I thought this would be a good place to solicit good ideas (other than actually flying) for an AeroClub. Since I already have my license, I tried to get the school to subsidize flying but they wan…

Would it be safe to assume that strategic cargo units have more pilots assigned due to length of missions and utilization of relief crew? I am trying to figure out if the two C-5 guard units would have more slots than a guard fighter unit. I also realize that there are two pilots per mission at least. I would take the slot if I am offered, but they sure are hangar queens. [ 18. June 2006, 19:10: Message edited by: Toro ]

So there I was yesterday sitting in my one man life raft putting a dip in and trying to pass the time...I looked up and saw the biggest clouds in the sky and the first thing I thought was...shit, it would be good to be flying through those clouds today...So I want to ask everybody whats the best sky surfing adventure you have ever had...cheers

Allcon, If you had your choice between ATC or being a commercial pilot, what would you choose? I hold all ratings in the control tower, RAPCON, and center to include Watch Supervisor. Not to toot my own horn, but I hold all FAA complex ratings. However, I love flying and in another 7 hours plus the long X-C, I will hold commercial with instrument ratings. Why do I bring this up? In as little as 500 hours I can become a pilot with several regionals without ATP hours and can build on the regional carriers. I love to fly...God, do I love to fly, but ATC is a job that I look forward to doing. I absolutely, without question, love to perform ATC duties; damn, I love A…

A guy in my class here at Little Rock told me one of his buddies got a call from Pope asking him if he wanted to go to Cheyenne instead of going to Pope once he got done at Little Rock. Also, I heard a rumor they were dropping Slicks to Cheyenne at Randolph now. Can anyone substantiate this?

Hello I'm a danish citizen born in united states. I've just failed the flying school in the RDAF, and I'm now considering applying as a pilot in the USAF. I don't have a high school degree, but I have what compares to that in Denmark. What is the view on that when you apply? I passed the tests to get on the RDAF pilot training, but failed in the selection on flying school. Will this affect me if I apply? In the RDAF they select only aspirants which have the skills to become a fighter pilot, I know that's not the case in USAF.

How long is the flight from Seattle to Japan? Will we still go to Hawaii? I've got a 0430L T/O & a 2115L Landing. THis part of my trip is tough to figure out my anti-jetlag plan. Can someone explain how this flight might work out? Any jet-lag tips are good too. I don't plan on it being too bad, but I want to be up and running the day after I arrive. BENDY

Why why why??? https://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/pho...F-2820P-001.JPG https://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/pho...F-2820P-032.JPG Why does anyone think this is a good idea? Why would you invite the media? I guess they do give you a lobotomy when you make Major. [ 01. June 2006, 21:37: Message edited by: F-15E WSO ]

Mods, I know this isn't aviation-related, but it can get eligible folks some free money, so I thought I'd try posting it... To all of you out there who have MN as HOR, check out www.thankmntroops.org It's a completely LEGIT organization that has collected donations in order to give out grants to all active-duty/guard/reserve bubbas -- all branches of service, active or retired or separated. Just need to have MN documented as your HOR, and must have deployed to a combat zone since 9/11. More info on the website. Heck, it may only be a couple hundred bucks (might be a lot more, depending on your circumstances [disabled, etc]), but it's free money, no strings at…

Hydro mentioned something that I haven't seen since the first page of posts. What exactly are the PHOENIX programs. I've heard very little about them and was wondering what they are all about. I'm still pretty new to the Herk, but the more I know about career progression and the T-ODP the better. Also, any of you exchange types, how early did you start asking for that? What assignments did you have previously? Thanks [ 30. May 2006, 03:10: Message edited by: hockeymv ]

I thought this was a pretty good idea. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/site/...7481&ct=1301253 This guy is a double amputee from Iraq and had some real financial problems imediately after his injury (his family needing $9,000 just to fly to meet him in Texas because they thought he may not make it home, for example). He is trying to get an insurance program started for severely injured soldiers so that families don't have to go through what his did. The policy would pay $50,000 to an amputee or other severe injury. Good stuff. This could really help some families stay on their feet (sts)financially when income is lost (combat pay, spouses having to q…
