Well wouldn’t you know it I had solid flight only to screw up my ground EP. Sure sucks blowing an 88 ride on just an EP. Anyways all is back to normal but I was just curious if midphase is really about a 50% bust rate at UPT? The student rumor is that they look to bust folks on the midphase more so then on the last three checks. Is there any partial truth to this? Its tuff separating student rumors/interpretation from the honest truth. By the way if anyone has good suggestions on how to setup EP’s please pass it along. Iv tried using the little cheat sheets but they are not always helpful. Since we are so understaffed we don’t get many stand-ups during the week. …

Just wondering if anyone's ever run into rude enlisted personnel...I'm a new LT doing casual with a fighter squadron. I'm doing scheduling and many other misc duties like making sure things are setup for fini flights and retirements. So here's my story: I was trying to sort everything for this guy's fini flight in the Viper who is retiring. His family was waiting for him to land. I asked the TSgt at the ops desk to call and get them permission to go on the flight line with cameras. He says, "How many." I said 4 cameras. The, with glaring eyes, he says "How many people." So I told him 12. He'd given me a sticky note to write down the escort for them and how man…

I was doing contractor ground testing on an Army RC-12Q over at Eglin J-PRIMES on Thursday and what a base! First time for me there, but it was awesome. Near the ocean, everything is very clean, grass nicely cut, and the staff was great. F-15s and F-16s flying over my head the whole day - it never got old. Saw one A-10 as well. Met a couple Army pilots while there - real nice crew. I had a chance to ask them about my color deficiency and they all said to pursue it more. Go see a private doctor and then push for a re-test and ignore what the recruiter said... I guess I kind of have my hopes up again, so I'll be looking into it some more. ~F Johnny.

I already searched but couldn't find anything helpful. I'm PCS'ing to Edwards this winter and am trying to find some info about the area. I've already read the AF Crossroads info but it wasn't much help. From what I've heard, it's best to stay on base to avoid the crime and long commute of the local "communities" like Boron and California City. Any truth to this? Any other advice for adjusting to living in the Mojave desert? Subscribe to Netflix if I already haven't? Thanks. - BK

Read this article while snooping on Air Force Times... Consider it a learning tool for all... ********************************************** Military pension would be hard to match By Barbara H. Pietrowski - Special to the Times It's fairly easy to calculate the dollar amount of a military pension after 20 years of active service, and we know a military pension is indexed for inflation so that it goes up over time as cost-of-living increases are granted. But what is it really worth to you? One way to answer this question is to ask: "How much money would I need in a retirement nest egg to give me a monthly income instead of my military pension?" …

Any of my fellow FAIPs here can assure you: Becoming a FAIP means a few extra kicks to the gonads. It's a fact of life. "Ah...2Lt Xxxxxx...you're going to need another 'fuge ride before you can become a T-3X IP...since you're not a MWS guy..." "Ah...2Lt Xxxxxx...we don't have any SERE slots available right now...so you'll have to wait until one opens up..." "Ah...1Lt Xxxxxx...still no SERE slots available in the near future...so maybe you'll just have to go at the completion of your FAIP tour." "Ah...Capt Xxxxxx...we finally have a SERE slot for you! Aren't you happy now?" "Ah...Capt Xxxxxx...are you ready for your THIRD 'fuge ride? This one will be fun…

Following SECDEF's speech/proposal to end F-22 production as of FY2010 with small buy, SECAF and CSAF have co-authored an article supporting the same position.

Is/was there any rhyme or reason behind the tailcodes on jets...I mean, why the hell is Kadena "ZZ"?? Also, why don't heavies have the traditional two-letter tailcode? The only time I've ever seen it was an SJ on a KC-10, and ZZ on a KC-135...always been curious.

I was just watching an interesting documentary on the Military Channel about life on a deployed aircraft carrier but they didn't talk much about the origin of the personnel. Anybody know how the makeup of the carrier works in relation to an AF deployment? AF deployed bases are pretty much made of individual squadrons from different AFBs. It seemed like everybody on the carrier was from the same location, but they never really specified. And how is the carrier commander chosen (somebody who is already a commander)?

Airmen Learn Army Skills Re the new "Air Force" centric term, I vote for the C-130 term of "Howdy". That term has always brought fear and trepidation to all who hear it in the cockpit.

I'm going to try something today...I'm going to work with my sleeves rolled up Navy-style and my leg zippers half-unzipped. Being in AETC, I give it 2 hours before some shoe clerk weenie says something to me about it. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm such a rebel.

Next time someone says an Air Force pilot doesn't know what he's bombing, show them this Laser Guided Awesome video showing a nice view of laser guidance against a group of insurgents. Evidently the insurgents were chased out of the "safe house" and when they were on the street were bombed with a 500lber. Makes me want to get in the fight. [ 20. Most of the guys on this board havent seen a RIF (myself included), but is this what it was like after Gulf 1 and other historic AF RIFs? Air Force notifies force shaping lieutenants 5/10/2006 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- Today, 2,084 lieutenants in the 2002 and 2003 accession year groups will learn if they were selected for retention by the Force Shaping Board. Each officer is being notified personally of their status by their senior rater. Officers deployed will be notified by either the deployed commander or their home station senior rater. The Force Shaping Board, led by a two-star board president, was broken down into panels of …

Got this from one of my bros in the 90th up at Elmendorf. Apparently, they've been getting a slew of calls to their Ops Desk from folks in the greater Atlanta area wanting to get in touch with "1Lt Adam Moore" who is selling a vehicle. The vehicle varies with each phone call, but they are insistent that the individual provided an Elmendorf e-mail address (adam.moore@elmendorf.af.mil) in addition to a civilian e-mail, but that they've been unable to reach him via the military e-mail, and their phone calls have gone unanswered. So they make a call to Elmendorf, get the number for the 90th, and ask for this guy, who is not assigned to the 90th. The Dicemen finally got ti…

Hey everyone. I just got an AFROTC pilot slot, and at my detachment you get issued a flight suit right away. However, I am ridiculously tall and skinny, and my detachment doesn't have the size I need (38L). Anyhow, I will probably commission before they are able to order a new one for me, so I've decided that I need to buy my own. However, I can't seem to find the right kind. My detachment doesn't use the CWU-27/Ps which are all over the place, but rather these old flight suits from 1996 made by "Equa Industries" with these Velcro tapes all over. Of course my flight suit has to be standardized with everyone else, and I have to get the right kind. So my questi…

Search function yielded no results... I'm blowing my wad (twss) and taking the whole family to the Hale Koa in Honolulu for a week this summer. Anybody stayed there before? For the first time (that I know of) they are waiving the two room limit per sponsor. I've got six rooms on the books...damn in-laws. Anyways, I'd like to take the clan to visit the USS Arizona memorial one day. I've heard there are special tours available for the AD military type. Can anybody confirm this or point me in the right direction? Also, any other advice on what to do, where to eat, which activities to book in advance, etc. would be much appreciated. Mahalo.

Just got a RIP today. Looking for some ideas for a morale patch. <poster now sits back and watches the creative wheels of BaseOps start spinning...in a sophomoric sort of way...> EDIT - Sorry, that would be the 69th Bomb Squadron.

40 out 110 AFSOC O-6's hit the eject button, including a few HPOs (at least one a multi-year BPZ sitting Wing/CC). Some might see this as a good thing, but that is still a lot of experience walking out the door all at once.
