Anyone know what reg covers gear pilots are authorized to be given through O&M purchases? Trying to spend end of year funds and take care of guys without buying tvs and chairs. Thanks for legit ideas!

I'm on my way to Little Rock in about 3 weeks to do phase 1 & 2. After that I've got to go to Kirtland probably enroute for D-M. Anyone been through the 130 course at Kirtland lately? Know any of the specifics like where they'll stick me and how often they start a class? I know they have a BOQ, and a TLF (which is one of the nicer ones I've seen- little houses instead of big hotel rooms). Will they pay me full perdiem? One of the biggest questions is how will they work the spouse thing for an enroute. Will she get some sort of perdiem, or am I better off sending her home to mom and collecting FSA? We can't manage an extra 4000 people spread across the world? That's like more people at each base!?! As usual, the Air Force solution is to reduce the number of experienced, active duty experts in their fields while continuing recruiting efforts in the same manner. So we realized there was an experience gap and plussed up our forces. We have new missions in addition to the old ones...so we are cutting forces?!? Where's the logic in that?!?!

Hey folks. So I'm headed to UPT pretty soon and in the meantime I'm trying to plan ahead for the future. I'm an engineer by trade and for the last 10 years have been working in an office. I have no desire to have a full time office/desk gig ever in the future again, and I'm working on getting into some independent consulting (out of my house) on the side after training when I'm not doing Air Force stuff all the time. Just curious what other small businesses traditional reservists/guardsmen have to work on in their free time. I have seen a number of realtors and flight instructors, but I'm curious to see what else people have done or are doing and how successful its been. …

It's starting to get cold up here in NY...anyone know where I can pick up a good ABU parka/field jacket/whatever they're called? Most of the ones I've seen are like $180...anyone know if there are cheaper ones out there? Also, can you wear an ACU-patterned jacket over the ABUs? I can't seem to find any regs for ABU wear...

There has been a lot of up and down talk but I think its going to happen any day now: 2AS here at no hope is going to cut the squad 50/50 airdrop and airland only...50% would loose their airdrop qual once their currencies run out. My guess is the 41st will do the same once they're back. Just an FYI. Hey how's Dyess doing?? Has anybody seen any air force time articles on deployment rates lately? Just a curiosity item - I know it's been discussed before, but we were told a few weeks ago that the CAF has basically had its fighter pipeline shutdown. Story is that the 16 schoolhouse has a minimum 12-13 month wait for the forseeable future. Does anyone else have the latest word on A-10s, 15Cs, etc? I know a few 10s dropped across the bases last time around and I've been told that there are about 30 dudes chilling at Tyndall as we speak still waiting to start Eagle RTU. A few of us were just wondering if we should just expect more of the same out of 38s in the next few months as we've been seeing.

Hello, I'm a 62 year old pilot wannabe, who does all his flying (and controlling) virtually on VATSIM. One of my favorite aircraft is the C-130H. In an attempt to fly it more realistically, I have been trying to figure out the proper loading of fuel. I downloaded Fuel Calculator v2.0 from your site, but there are required entries based on parameters I can't figure out. Any chance someone would be willing to do a little tutoring? Certainly not looking for anything classified, just trying to do things real world style, and Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn't come close in this area. Thanks.

I'm wondering if there are any other sites out there that are somewhat like this one, except that they may not be dedicated solely to flying in the AF. I've already been to www.airforceots.com so I know that's out there, but is there anything else? It just doesn't seem like that site gets enough traffic to use more than once a week or so. I'm interested in knowing how many of you out there run a side business while being a Mil member whether it as small as rental property to something much more extensive like a franchise. My plan is to buy houses and rent them out while on active duty and with the wife's help maybe something more. So those of you who are on active duty, Guard or Reserves please chime in and share your experience with us.

Scenario 1: Let's say that I'm on a 179-day TDY in country A living off base, that turns into 183 days TDY (not including travel days). So under the flat rate per diem rules, I would receive 55% of the full rate for country A. I get that. Scenario 2: Now let's say that at the beginning of this TDY I arrive in country A, spend 10 days there, then go TDY to country B for 2 days before returning to location A for the remainder of the 171 days.
