This question is not aimed at any particular model of aircraft. I would like to know if DME indications during an MLS approach are received through the TACAN or by a seperate internal MLS component. Thanks.

I'm just about to finish up tweets at Columbus, and just filled out my dream sheet. I really want to do tac airlift, and I was advised to put in for T-1s (as opposed to T-44's) to keep my options open. I've been reading some articles in Air Mobility Magazine (while tending to various physio matters) about the C-17 being used to a fuller extent in the low-level/airdrop role. Say that doesn't workout and I manage to get a C-130 outta UPT. What are my chances of moving from slicks into AFSOC?

This is actually my first time to post on baseops, but everyone has really given some great information on here. I just received my assignment to McChord on Friday. My guess is that I would be reporting possibly 6-7 months -- haven’t received my orders. My question after some searching through other posts is, after reporting to McChord, how long will I be looking at until I get started. I have heard anywhere from 1 week to a month and a half. Also, is there anyone who is there or has been there recently who can give my wife and me some good guidance to a good start there. Thanks!

For anyone that knows the T-6 pubs, I am tring to find anything in writing concerning the requirements for a pilot to re-inspect the aircraft after getting strapped in and after a crew chief has made an "adjustment" to the jet. For example, you get strapped in and you get an OBOGS fail annunciator so the crew chief opens the access door to the OBOGS system, corrects what he thinks is the problem and closes the door and the annunciator goes away. Are we obligated to get out and basically do another walk around?

Hey folks, I just graduated with a B.S. and have lately been thinking about enlisting in order to try out for a pararescue slot. However, it seems that everyone I talk to discourages me from enlisting and urges me to seek a commission. This includes a former Navy officer as well as a retired AF colonel who flew F-111's. I have visited the specialtactics.com message boards (CCT/PJ's "Baseops.net") and have considered the advice given by those guys, however, I was also wanting to hear about the benefits/drawbacks from some current officers (any enlisted folks feel free to share as well). I know that officers get paid significantly more, and that they get more leade…

https://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/storie...h.1b3b58b1.html Looks like Ed Shipley. Interesting to see if this complicates the ongoing investigation into T. Mike. Best wishes to Ed's family, friends and employees. They may look neat and are straightforward to fly, but make no mistake, these first generation jet fighters have many unforgiving aspects, with worthless egress systems. Potentially dangerous machines. Robert Guillford Jimmy Rossi Tom Delashaw Come to mind. I don't know about Shipley or Guillford's reputations, but Rossi and Deleshaw were world-class, experienced aviators. [ 31. July 2006, 20:01: Message edited by: Toro ]

Check out the last paragraph. Apparently the T-38 is being replaced by the T-6 now... by Tech. Sgt. Cecilio M. Ricardo Jr. Air Force Print News 7/23/2006 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- United States and European pilots may have language barriers but at the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training wing, they all speak the same language -- avionics. In the 55-week ENJJPT program, approximately 250 American and European students earn their wings yearly. Of those graduating, about 65 percent are American pilots and the remainder are European. The integrated training of U.S. and European forces prepares NATO pilots for real-world operations. "We train lik…

I know this is stretching the ROE just a bit, but I really think this is cool! During the three years I was stationed in Belgium, I got to see a lot of these re-enactments, such as the annual Bastogne march and the Mons Tanks in Town. I think it is great that these folks are working so hard to keep the history alive... By the way, 80-yr-old Maurice Sperandieu has done the 20-km walk every year since 1977. I was lucky enough to meet him twice while doing the Bastogne march, and gave him a unit coin when I last saw him in December 2004, the 60th anniversary of the battle. Cheers! M2

Today I had someone in my squadron walk up to me and ask me if I wanted any additional equipment before I go to UPT. He said my squadron was willing to hook me up with things like extra flight suits and gloves. Is there anything I should request that some of you guys wish you would have had before going to UPT?

I am wondering which would most of the folks here rather have: a great unit and mission in a less than cool spot like Cannon, or what they think is a less than cool mission in a great spot? Would it matter if you had a family? Just sort of curious.

Since a lot of you have "been there done that" I could use some advice or words of encouragement on UPT. I've only been going for a few months now and it's a lot different than what I expected. I thought I could handle stress, and flying planes, but this is a whole different ball of wax. Basically, I suck flying and I'm probably the worst in academics. However, I'm not ever going to give up and I'll take it one day at a time. Just wanted to know if anyone else could relate to what I'm going through and if you had any ideas on what I could do in order not to get so down on myself.

A couple of the flyers I’ve talked with have recommended Touro U for an online program to get an MBA. From what I hear they are very flexible with deployments and will also meet the rest of the cost that TA doesn’t provide. Has anyone gone through them to get your MBA? How did it work with deployments and TDYs while you were doing the classes? Would you recommend their program? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Is there any truth to the statement that "UPT classes early in the fiscal year get drops with more fighter slots than classes toward the end of the fiscal year." Many people seem to think this, so I'm curious about the validity. Did some searching, but couldn't come up with any answers. Any info would be appreciated.

Nope, I'm not asking about sex-parties at Little Rock... Just wondering if anybody had further info on a rumor: Apparently, there was a recent incident, resulting in significant aircraft damage, for which I hear one of our previous students was responsible. The individual just barely passed here at Corpus. Wanted to fish for more info ("unnofficial" can sometimes be the best) before I bring it up in a meeting. [ 28. I was talking to somebody today about a funny video clip I saw on a website like ebaum's world or something and he asked if we could get in trouble for looking at that kinda stuff while in the VOQ's....is that the case? Would I get in trouble for going to a website like break.com or ebaum's world while here at Maxwell? I understand that if on a work computer you're not supposed to do that, but what about the computer in you own room? I know it's a bit off topic, but I wanted to show him some funny video clips and I didn't wanna get in trouble for something silly like that. [ 02. July 2006, 09:56: Message edited by: Toro ]

Would it be safe to assume that strategic cargo units have more pilots assigned due to length of missions and utilization of relief crew? I am trying to figure out if the two C-5 guard units would have more slots than a guard fighter unit. I also realize that there are two pilots per mission at least. I would take the slot if I am offered, but they sure are hangar queens. [ 18. June 2006, 19:10: Message edited by: Toro ]
