Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Looking at post-USAF retirement spots. St George or Kanab look awesome, asking if anyone has spent time at either place? No, I am not basing my decision on any info gathered here, but a few data points will be useful as I can't get out there for several more months to see for myself. Anyone been there?

Not sure how many of you watch American Idol, but tonight might be a good time to tune in. A Captain by the name of Lyndsey Goodman will be on tonight. She grew up right down the road from me, went to the USAFA, and now flies the C-17. You can hear some of her music and read more about her at her myspace page.

So I am kinda bored and saw this on foxnews.com https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,318932,00.html Hannah Montana Concert Winner Lied in Essay Describing Father's Death in Iraq Saturday , December 29, 2007 ADVERTISEMENT GARLAND, Texas — An essay that won a 6-year-old girl four tickets to a Hannah Montana concert began with the powerful line: "My daddy died this year in Iraq." While gripping, it was not true — and now the girl may lose her tickets after her mom acknowledged to contest organizers it was all a lie. The sponsor of the contest was Club Libby Lu, a Chicago-based store that sells clothes, accessories and games intended for young girl…

Did a search, couldn't find anything on this topic. Anyone know of a good place to obtain a control stick? The idea is to make it into a tap handle for our kegerator. Saw one from a MiG-21 and F-4 on ebay, just curious if there was a surplus store somewhere on the net worth checking into.

I was doing a little reading today and came across this movie which comes out on the 4th. https://youtube.com/watch?v=03e56cVXajY Looks promising... and somewhat accurate. It has skyraiders so I guess that makes up for any possible shortcommings! Thought I'd share it with those interested

Thinking about buying a used one...the current battlewagon (a 96 VW Passat) is showing its age and nickel-and-diming me to death lately. Have always wanted a Jeep and there is a two-year old Unlimited for sale here in town that may not be a bad deal. Any current/previous Jeep Wrangler owners out there who have any advice, good or bad? It has a hard top with a bikini top thrown in, a manual transmission, and the 4.0L in-line six with 35K on it, ABS, A/C and a CD player. I prefer the extended rear bed and wheelbase of the Unlimited. Cheers! M2

Esteemed Assembly: Who makes those large wall peg boards/shelves/racks/etc to hold all your mugs in the squadron bar? I'm in desperate need of one. I'm sure I can design one and build it myself, but I'm typically too drunk to do so due to the fact that there is no where to hang/store my mug with pride. Thanks for the help!

Saw this on DrudgeReport. Pretty awesome stuff that the Brits have revealed publicly. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 Fair Use Excerpt: New technology that can make tanks invisible has been unveiled by the Ministry of Defence. In secret trials last week, the Army said it had made a vehicle completely disappear and predicted that an invisible tank would be ready for service by 2012. The new technology uses cameras and projectors to beam images of the surrounding landscape onto a tank.

Going back through my old e-mails, I found this gem. Ironically, it was written by a T-38 FAIP bud of mine who would later go on to be an Albino driver. Less than 10 years ago this occured, but it's a throwback to the fighter pilot days of lore. ***************************** Taxpayers beware; this story involves the combustion of tens of thousands of pounds of JP-8 and the consumption of many of your tax dollars in an effort to retrieve one long-dead aviator. Mr. Bones, or Mr. F. Bones, or Frank T. Bones, is the mascot of the 95th Fighter Squadron at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida (the home of the mighty F-15 Eagle). He has a long and glorious history, most o…

Looking for someone in South Dakota to check out a motorcycle for me. You don't need to know anything about them - I'm just looking more for verification that the thing is actually there. Maybe take a few pictures as well. I found an old Indian Chief that a guy inherited but he doesn't live there. Anyways there are a few fishy things in his story about where the bikes are but he does have a valid phone number, I've spoken with him several times and he is an older american. I've uncovered a half dozen scams looking for one of these things but usually it ends when I ask for their phone number. They are conveniently in Europe or want to use cashiers checks etc. I …

On www.airforce.com there's a series of recruitment video's entitled "Do Something Amazing." Turn up the volume on your speakers and click this link: Eagle pilot curses out boom operator. It's a video clip of an F-15C getting some gas and if you listen closely you'll hear the pilot on hot mic saying "How about you make contact DIPSH*T!!!" Another funny link is this one: Propeller engines?. Apparently the TF-34's on the Warthog sound just like the P-51. Maybe the Air Force should "do something amazing" and have someone QC their website. Enjoy, HOSS

Anyone see that Ford F-150 commercial this last Sunday? They supposedly dropped a truck out the back of a Herc attached to a bunch of cables and the truck proceeded to stop the aircraft. At first I was thought no f'ing way that would ever happen, but then I thought of all the false advertisement chit that could nail Ford if it wasn't true -- I still think there is NO way the AF would agree to that, maybe I'll bring up the lawsuit... True or not, I figured this would be a good time to hear some cool stories of other sweet stuff you crusty old guys have done.
