  1. Sorry to hear that. Being a military mishap, you’d be looking for the AIB (Accident Investigation Board) report, that would be the public findings. The JAG website normally posts those, but 1991 is a ways back. You could always put in a FOIA request to get it, but I just don’t think the publicly posted stuff goes that far back. Sorry if I’m not saying anything new...I’m sure you’ve tried before and a bunch of different things. ~Bendy Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network mobile app
  2. Which syllabus do you mean, and why would you be surprised night landings are in it? ~Bendy
  3. I still just want to know why they pulled Zoe Kotnik. I get privacy and all, but seriously...just want to know, know. ~Bendy Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network mobile app
  4. As a pilot, that was worthless...as some one that has no idea what the AIB is trying to say, perhaps there is value. Before you start that, it’s 35 minutes of him reading you the AIB. Analysis is non-existent, conclusions are short and without backing. Not worth a view for the all but the youngin’s (what I suppose I am not anymore)...although, man, I sure do remember those days! ~Bendy Sent from my iPad using Baseops Network mobile app
  5. Four of them finished 1-4 in their class per emails I’ve seen out of the 19AF staff; can’t speak intelligently about the fifth. Generated enough “excitement”, that the T-38s are going to start receiving their make over starting at Vance, starting right now. So I guess it’s “lucked out”, as much as you need being 1-4 in your class... ~Bendy
  6. Welp, just a tad bit backed up I guess. This place is Special. We’ll see how they do...went through fast, sit long time. ~Bendy Edit: OP, wouldn’t worry about figuring out Banzai...sounds like EVERYONE there will be figuring it out together!
  7. The last Banzai students at CBM are going to sit between phase 2 and 3 for about 6 weeks shy of a year. ~Bendy
  8. AETC’s upcoming RTRB will be hijacked by dissent over this topic. None of the phase 3 plans are well planned, disseminated, or coordinated. It’ll be conducted virtually most likely (so dial in for the fun if you can! Bring some popcorn!) The T-6 syllabus wasn’t well coordinated either...very close hold and the initial coordination was done in a week. ...and, no, I don’t personally believe we’ll end up using 737 sims. All seems kind of dumb to me... ~Bendy
  9. T-6 syllabus should be done with cord mid-May. Lots of contention...lots. T-1 and T-38 tracks (which there still are, as of now), are set to be figured out in the upcoming months. The real intent is to set up students as “universally assignable” after T-6. Which is a bit funny when I watch a T-38 trained FAIP go B-2 while we could send a T-1 grad, but whatever... UPT 2.5 at this point adds sorties to the T-6...for everyone (that’s a GREAT thing). The problem starts when it’s vision depends on “early access” (which is neutered by regulations) to decimate phase 3 training leading to winging students from T-6s. Training identified pilots within AFA/ROTC is mandatory. The current “scuttle butt” for phase 3 is fine on the T-38 side...create a new syllabus that incorporates VR while combining the 38 and IFF syllabus. Fine for bases that have IFF anyways... The situation on the T-1 side, while we seem insistent that the AF is incapable of buying another OTS T-1 is much worse. We give them 737 sims or some shit to train multi-engine stuff, AR, etc. Worse, we think we can do it in the T-6. We (19AF) just DON’T want to put money down here. Myopic. It’s just not a term for in the cockpit looking for traffic. It’s bad right now. We’re going VERY fast, and the outcome is going to be WAY less than ideal. In reality, the fact that these changes are taking root, is a victory for a large number of O-1’s straight through O-5’s that have worked outside their means for years! It has been hijacked and distorted by leadership over and over, but leadership moves on, but the insurgency has continued. It has taken root and is now close to becoming reality. UPT 2.5 is not leadership trying to cut sorties. It is the work of people who know better trying to do what is needed. Thinking of Billy Mitchell is a better analogy. They are still trying to tank it...even at the SQ/CC level. People do not like change. You will hear it’s about pilot production, It’s about making more pilots faster...that is not the point of these people. It’s about making BETTER PILOTS. If they can be made faster, great! If there is anything legitimate to weigh in on, it’s what MDS’s could take a winged pilot out of UPT, and what MDS specific top off a MAF pilot needs in a T-6 or 737 sim to be ready for an FTU. ...or heaven forbid someone come up with an idea that’s better, because the MAF track conceptualized is a straight mess. What are you doing to improve your Air Force? Complain as you like, provide constructive criticism for sure...but, I can promise you this stuff is not borne from the mind of a General (although those people should be Generals one day, but never will be.) Lock up the enemy before you release the weapon, ~Bendy
  10. Do any of us really believe this was the guy’s first course of action? How many conversations, day in and day out, are happening at every single wing right now? In my humble opinion, not knowing the facts, I’d call that one a Hail Mary that didn’t manage to work...until the media basically force it. Anecdotally, it was just days prior to me hearing about this letter that the SecDef Himself was saying he would not evacuate that ship. Innocent until proven guilty...holds. His command...more fickle...does not. To tell a group of sailors, most of whom have this virus now, to shut up and color is low class at best. I hope that one gets his. Not because it’s untrue, but because mouth is running for poor reason. This one is a real mess. Fortunately we forget easily... Modly 2020! ~Bendy
  11. Ohh...that was a long 9 minutes. ~Bendy
  12. I wouldn’t bother trying to compare. A UPT student would still be in the academic phase on training day 25...wouldn’t even have touch an airplane yet. ~Bendy
  13. “Ban Assault Teeth” Classic. ~Bendy
  14. Why the secrecy on the details? Seems like everyone can always use a check yourself moment if you ask me. We don’t like the “loss of confidence” but then don’t feel like saying. It’s not like he actually had anything to do with it...just didn’t do anything about. ~Bendy Edit: You can share your opinions in the open...it’s okay. No one is going to bite you.
  15. The seeming lack of acknowledgement of this fact by USAF leadership astounds me. Hands down, it’s the biggest thing we do better...because it isn’t VR. ~Bendy
  16. So can you share the syllabus draft or details with us? A synopsis at least? ~Bendy
  17. Oh, I didn’t realize it was common knowledge. Can you share more about what’s going on? Once RND gets done with it, my understanding is it’s supposed to hit everyone in the face. Thought it would be of interest...maybe you know more than me. Let us know what’s up. ~Bendy
  18. Rumor has it a “Innovation Syllabus” is in its final stretch to reaching the 19AF this month. From what I’ve heard so far it will increase T-6 sorties for T-1s and hold for T-38s...single track perhaps. All kinds of flashy VR and 360 Video included to augment the training...rather than replace. I mean, it was already into the bone with OBOGS. Maybe they can at least get back to the skin if more sorties aren’t cut. Moles in place...stand by for more! ~Bendy
  19. “The promotion boards for officers in each developmental category will not be stacked entirely with officers from that same category, Kelly said, though some will be from that category. Instead, there will be a mix of officers, depending on the size of the board, to make sure the board gets an “institutional perspective.”” So how is that any different than what we have now? ~Bendy
  20. Oh, the exception to the norm, no doubt...but 3 events a day is not uncommon at all (particularly for a FAIP). 2 sorties is the expectation (at least at CBM)...to the extent that if you take too much leave, they expect the triple turn to “make up your increment”. With the MX issues, yeah...probably couldn’t fly 3 times in a day if you tried. It’s pretty bad (not to mention scheduling shenanigans). As for MSIs, it’s fairly bad in general, but if your at CBM, you’ll have to wait for the MX issues to pass and summer to roll around again before we can understand how bad it really is. Personally, I flew 3 times in a day once...I’m good now. Either way, I don’t think these guys/gals are escaping too much being in AETC. There is something to be said about going home every night...even if you show at all weird hours and work 11-12 hours a day, everyday. Toss in a deployment threat and most would just take a pass over volunteering, I’d think. ~Bendy
  21. Flying student sorties twice a day (if not 3) every day is far from a break. If you could hear some of the “you owe me” type of talk given to UPT IPs, you’d wish JPQ still gave a shit. We lost when we pulled decision making up to the level intended to supervise. Squadron Commanders don’t even know how to be Squadron Commanders anymore...they’ve already hit the ELP-less FAIP stage. If you ask me, let a Flt/CC waive the syllabus and just inform the DO. Shit is stupid now... ~Bendy
  22. He won’t know his specific aircraft until the end of T-38s...what we call “assignment night”. It’s likely to be a fighter, possibly a bomber, sometimes even something else when the Air Force in its infinite stupidity thinks it makes sense to send them to a MAF heavy. They also don’t pick their aircraft, they request/provide their preference which is considered based on the aircraft provided for that class to be assigned too (of course, also based on the class standing). Tell him good luck, it’s a pretty awesome career path, ~Bendy
