Just be yourself. These guys are trying to figure out if they want to spend the next 20 years of deployments and TDYs with you. If you know the insignia, you would be able to know what rank they are. If you see and bird or, for some reason, a star on someone’s shoulders, it’s a good idea to keep it to “sir” or “ma’am” when talking to them. But for everyone else, I’d just call them by whatever name they use to introduce themselves. Obviously stay respectful. Show your interested, and make sure not to look through people. They are giving you their time, so give your attention to the person you’re talking to. As for booze, your call. Jack, Makers, whatever, I don’t think it really matters. They don't even need the C - what they need is CAS for the ground unit in a permissive environment (light attack, etc). There is no situation in which a MEU is going into a threat environment by themselves that requires 5th gen capes. A MEU is not storming Iran's or China's beach by themselves, a MEU is not starting WW3 in Ukraine, etc. The MEU concept is viable for rapid response to problems in 3rd world countries that aren't rocking operational IADs or even just a few autonomous S-300/400s. If those things exist, the MEU is not going to be the answer for the problem. Additionally, a Marine rifleman charging into Indonesia or Africa (for example) is far better supported by something purpose built for CAS - they should want light attack FW and RW, or something like a re-engined A-10 that can fly off the boat. FWIW the Marine F-35 guys I've been around have done a great job learning and adapting to the new missions of the F-35, but their $100M aircraft and awesome OCA skills are going to be of low utility when their bros on the ground storm Embassy X and it's a classic 3-09.3 CAS fight.

Dude if those strats are middle of the road I must have been a turd burglar on active duty as a CGO! 🤣 #8/150 Majors is top 5% and now you’re “middle of the road?” The active duty rating system is broken for the 69% of dudes who are not shiny pennies nor bottom feeders. Dudes in that vast “middle of the road” have no idea where they stand and even worse, there is no real incentive to try harder when their fate is already likely sealed. Theres a big god damned difference beteeen 15th percentile and 85th percentile but hey, thanks for playing. I guess with manning almost everyone should be free to be continued at O4 indefinitely, but that’s cold comfort for many dudes who were thinking O5 was the “standard career.”

Try to talk to as many people as possible while you're there. If they invite you to go out with them after hanging at the squadron, definitely go. And it sounds cliche, but just be yourself. I'm pretty sure most people will notice if you're "putting on". Have fun, don't sweat it, and I hope it works out.

I'd probably wear a pair of khakis and a button down shirt or polo. Not too casual, not to formal (unless it's a meet-and-greet as part of an interview, definitely wear a suit for the interview). Some people bring a bottle of liquor as a gift / compensation for putting up with your questions all day. Seems to be more of a thing in fighter squadrons, and definitely not mandatory or even beneficial in all cases.

I am a civilian with no military background. I have read some people say to say "sir" in your response to a military member. How do you go about this? Will I offense any military member if I talk back to them without ending my sentence in "sir"? Also, how do I address the military members? Is it okay to just say their names? I won't be able to tell what rank they are and what their last name is. Sorry if this sound like a stupid question. But searching through the internet gives mix responses so hopefully this will get answer here. Lastly, what are other hard liquor that I should bring to the unit beside Jack Daniels? I won't be able to get one through TSA so I will have to go on a fun quest to buy one locally, so more options to chose from will be better.
